Fisheries Management Papers

In its discussion paper (Fisheries Management Paper No. 139), which was widely distributed and publicized, the working group put forward a range of management proposals for community discussion. These were developed after meeting directly with recreational fishers in key regional centres and receiving feedback from fisheries scientists and managers. The discussion paper attracted widespread comment, with more than 1,200 written submissions received from recreational fishers, angling clubs and other stakeholders. This study was an investigation of the projected lead time and the actual lead time for a part manufactured at Tri-Industries Inc., Terre Haute, Indiana. The research was focused on a single part produced in Tri-Industries. The problem was that there is a difference in the projected lead time and the actual lead time of the part under investigation. The actual lead time was longer than projected lead time, which resulted in the company being delinquent in customer delivery. Education is clearly linked to income as numerous studies have shown. In El Paso, this link underscores what can only be called a crisis. As the region’s education level has declined over the past few decades, income has followed in a parallel fashion. This study strongly points out this linkage over the past 50 years, suggesting that a number of issues related to the education pipeline need to be addressed broadly across the community.

A Multi-Agent Framework For Supporting Intelligent Fourth-Party Logistics, Hoong Chuin Lau, G. Lo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

A distributed intelligent agent-based framework that supports fourth-party logistics optimization under a web-based e-Commerce environment has been proposed in this paper. In the framework, customer job requests come through an e-Procurement service. These requests are consolidated and pushed to the e-Market Place service periodically. The e-Market Place then serves as a broker that allows intelligent agents to bid to serve these requests optimally in real-time by solving multiple instances of underlying logistics optimization problem. The resulting system was implemented based on the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) platform using distributed system technology for communication between objects.

Yet these organizations may support research traditions that can very easily be exploited by political authorities working to maintain political power and exploit citizenry. The article discusses how the consciousnesses of psychologists in the psychological organizations purporting to do good can themselves be exemplars of false consciousness.

Once again the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics has issued a call for reform. As was the case with the Jeremiad Sermons of the 17th Century Puritans, the call for reform has become a ritual whose primary function is to cleanse the sinner so that they might go forth and sin again. Any real prospect of reform and change is as remote in intercollegiate athletics today as it was for the debauched sinners in the Massachusetts of the Mathers. Or as they used to say in rural America, the horse has long since left the barn.

Ten Thin Slices: A Study Of Customer Satisfaction In Retail Business Transactions Wherein Service Providers And Customers Have Different Primary Languages, C. Fritz Reichert

Student Scholarship

This paper addresses the effect on customer service satisfaction of primary language differences between service personnel and customers in retail store environments. This study was conducted using ethnographic research methods in five different retail store environments where service personnel were Spanish-speaking and customers English- speaking. The results of the study suggest that primary language differences in the service dyad can result in impaired service and customer dissatisfaction. The results of the study also indicate that store management can control some factors to increase customer satisfaction.

A focus group study with 37 residents of Manhattan, Kansas, was conducted to examine consumers' risk perceptions of foodborne illnesses from eating beef. The four focus-group sessions were designed to determine (1) relative preferences for alternative combinations of public food safety measures (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points [HACCP], carcass pasteurization, irradiation) and private protection (home preparation of rare, medium, and well-done hamburgers); (2) how who is at risk (children vs. adults) influences preferences; (3) whether consumers would pay a premium for increased product safety arising from the adoption of three different innovations in processing plants; and (4) how to improve …

During the summer months of 1994 through 2001, the Rosen School of Hospitality Management's Dick Pope Sr. Institute for Tourism Studies at the University of Central Florida has conducted a survey of Central Florida hospitality industry properties regarding wage rates and employee benefits. This ongoing project has been sponsored by the Hotel Human Resource Association of Central Florida and has been supported by the Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association.
