As the teen market segment expands and spending power increases, advertisers are cognizant of the importance in understanding traditional and emerging media trends in reaching this new generation of consumers. Increasing penetration of the internet at home and at school encouraged the authors to examine teens' relationships with media. Time allocation across media and the needs fulfilled by each medium were investigated. The study further explored how the internet, given its ability for two-way communication, stacks-up against interpersonal communication sources. Influences of gender and home access to the internet were analyzed, as were the methods teens use to learn about …

The premise of this research is that the lack of connecting church financial management principles to a biblical foundation is a primary cause for the lack of clergy and church leaders following effective financial management practices within a church setting. This research explored this hypothesis by teaching two church financial courses; one with heavy emphasis on the biblical foundation for financial and administrative management, and one that is secular in approach. Studies of the cognitional process of sensemaking in organizations have generally been conducted in two different settings. The first is some type of disaster, natural or otherwise. The second is a long-term organizational process such as the merging of two departments. In both cases the researchers tend to rely heavily on after-the-fact interviews and formal documentation. The outcome of this case study is a rich description of the nature of sensemaking process in hospital strategic planning retreat that is formulated in such a way as to provide an exemplar for practitioners working with similar concerns in similar settings. This study presents the results of an investigation into the use of metaphorical language in the summary and business description sections of Intial Public Offerings (IPO) prospectuses of both Internet and non-Internet companies. This research examined fifteen Internet companies and nine non-Internet companies, which were chosen at random, that completed IPOs between January 1, 1999 and August 6, 1999 for metaphorical use that was either common to both sets of companies or specific to the Internet companies. Intelligent agents can be used as agents of organizational change. This potential exists in the domain of accounting audit, where much of what is currently done manually in batch mode could be done continuously and on-line. We discuss the use of intelligent Internet agents as a way of changing and expanding audit practices in the virtual world. A quality/service framework is presented that suggests ways that accounting firms can evolve in this era of on-line opportunities. Toward The Differentiation Of Trust In Supervisor And Trust In Organization, Hwee Hoon Tan, Christy S. F. Tan

Trust in supervisor and trust in organization are argued to be distinct but related constructs, each with its own set of antecedents and outcomes. Empirical field results supported the proposition. Although trust in supervisor and trust in organization were positively and significantly correlated, trust in supervisor was more strongly associated with proximal variables (ability, benevolence, and integrity of supervisor), whereas trust in organization was more strongly correlated with global variables (perceived organizational support and justice). This conclusion held despite the inclusion of proximal variables in the regression on trust in organization and the inclusion of global variables in the regression …

The need to form joint ventures is evident from the increase in the number of international joint ventures (IJV) in the US as well as in other nations. This study is a preliminary analysis of the socio-economic impact of casino gaming in Mesquite, Nevada. Mesquite is being studied from this perspective in order to provide policymakers with information that will aid in the determination of public policy relevant to and in conjunction with casino gaming activity. A combination of site visits to the area and interviews with casino executive personnel and relevant law enforcement was conducted for the purposes of gathering information for this study. Three police departments (Mesquite, Nevada, Cedar City, Utah and St. George, Utah) were interviewed to determine the crime rate in jurisdiction. Relevant data …

This exploratory study sought to examine the roles of values clarification and consensus in the process of creating shared values within an organizational subculture. In particular. this study examined the effects the utilization of consensus and values clarification had on the level of member-group value congruency and the affective variables (general job satisfaction, group cohesion, and organizational commitment), which have been positively associated with person-organization fit. The first of three Lewis and Clark related studies funded by Montana's Tourism Advisory Council in fiscal year 2000, this report provides visitor projections for the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial in 2003-2006 as well as profiles of those visitors. The study included over 2,000 telephone surveys in the contiguous United States less Montana and is a nationally representative cross-section of the U.S. population. In addition, the report examines interest in and awareness of the Lewis & Clark Expedition and the Bicentennial.

Employee trust for the general manager is proposed as an internal organizational characteristic that provides a competitive advantage for the firm. This paper empirically examines the relationship between trust for a business unit's general manager and organizational performance. Trust was found to be significantly related to sales, profits and employee turnover in the restaurant industry. Managers who were either more or less trusted differed significantly in perceptions of their ability, benevolence and integrity.

Orchestras must attract and maintain enthusiastic audiences to survive in today's competitive environment, and many orchestras are working hard to raise public awareness about their products in the hopes of making them more attractive to a broader audience. I have drawn upon the theory of persistent presence to create a framework which outlines five of the most important issues facing orchestras today. I offer a refinement of the model which I believe is a better explanatory vehicle for understanding why some orchestras succeed more than others in terms of expanding their audiences.
