It was one of the best events of the early summer. The finals of the NHL Playoffs, the Battle for Lord Stanley's Cup, hit high gear and produced two of the best games in any sport over recent months. Indeed the last two games were among the best ever.

Nevada Risk Assessment/Management Program

The Nevada Risk Assessment/Management Program (NRAMP) was part of a national effort by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to develop new sources of information and approaches to risk assessment, risk management, risk communication and public outreach as these objectives relate to the ecological and human health effects of radioactive and hazardous material management and site remediation activities. This final report presents a synopsis of the NRAMP effort that occurred from 1995 to 2000. Horticulture research reports

Irrigation practices employed by five commercial strawberry growers on sandy soils of the Swan Coastal Plain near Perth Western Australia were monitored for two consecutive seasons, 1995 and 1996 during the Spring production period.

Nutritional practices for the same grower group plus one Albany grower were monitored by plant, soil and sap analysis at 14 day intervals throughout the 1996 season.

Irrigation records showed that market quality strawberries could be produced at this time of year (August to December in Perth) on soils with very poor water retention properties with an average crop factor(E Pan) for the season of 0.7 …

The West Coast Region between Kalbarri and Augusta offers a wide range of recreational fishing opportunities.The West Coast Region also receives more fishing pressure than any other, with an estimated 380 000 anglers fishing each year. Already, the signs of a fishery under pressure are showing. Catch rates of dhufish around inshore reef systems such as the Three-mile are a far cry from the 1950s and 60s when people beachlaunched wooden dinghies to fish the inshore waters for these highly prized fish. Fisheries Research Reports

Information on the catch, effort and fishing characteristics of recreational rock lobster fishers has been collected in Western Australia (WA) since 1986, by an annual mail survey of a randomly selected sample of rock lobster licence holders. Over the period 1986-1999, the number of licensed recreational rock lobster fishers in WA has approximately doubled, from 15,249 (1987/88) to 32,768 (1998/99), and the estimated catch has nearly tripled, from 219 tonnes (1987/88) to 626 tonnes (1998/99). These estimates have not attempted to take into account illegal catches.

Employment Strategy : Comparing Japanese And British Retail Companies In Hong Kong, Mei Ling, May Wong

Hong Kong Institute of Business Studies Working Paper Series

This study examines and compares the employment strategy used by Japanese and British retail companies in Hong Kong. Hendry's (1995) structured employment systems model is adopted as the theoretical framework for this research. Three case companies - Morioka and Okadaya (Japanese-owned) and Supercom (British-owned) - are studied regarding what employment strategies they have adopted to expand in the Hong Kong, and to adjust to the changing consumer market. The evidence shows that the Japanese companies adopt more structured employment systems employing more employee groups than the British company. Employee Casualisation In Department Stores In Hong Kong, Mei Ling, May Wong

Hong Kong Institute of Business Studies Working Paper Series

This study examines the pattern of employee casualisation in two Japanese and a British department stores in Hong Kong. A number of employee categories can be identified in these companies according to the model of the ‘flexible firm’. These companies employed four major casualisation strategies which reflected their culture and business strategies. During the economic good times, the Japanese companies tended to casualise more local staff due to the fact that they preferred to use ethnocentric management overseas. However, during the economic downturn, all companies used casualisation for cost-minimisation as a major business strategy for survival. This study implies that …
