Family as a consuming and decision making unit is a central phenomenon in marketing and consumer behavior. However, in the recent past, there has been a decline in interest in family as a unit of analysis. Yet, at the same time, the family -- as an institution -- is undergoing a metamorphosis and currently stands at the threshold of significant transformation. The Effect Of Ceo Tenure On The Relation Between Firm Performance And Turnover, Sam Allgood, Kathleen A. Farrell

We analyze the effect of CEO tenure on the relation between firm performance and forced turnover. We find that the performance-forced turnover relation is conditional on CEO tenure. Our results suggest a constant negative relation between firm performance and forced turnover throughout an inside CEO’s tenure. Founders are entrenched early in their careers but held accountable for firm performance later in their careers. We find evidence that outside hires experience a probationary period, followed by a period of apparent entrenchment during their intermediate years that weakens later in their tenure.

Environmental Ethical Decision Making In The U.S. Metal-Finishing Industry, Brenda L. Flannery, Douglas R. May

We investigated the individual and contextual influences shaping the environmental ethical decision intentions of a sample of managers in the U.S. metal-finishing industry in this study. Ajzen's (1991) theory of planned behavior and Jones's (1991) moral intensity construct grounded our theoretical framework. Findings revealed that the magnitude of consequences, a dimension of moral intensity, moderated the relation- ships between each of five antecedents-attitudes, subjective norms, and three perceived behavioral control factors (self-efficacy, financial cost, and ethical climate)- and managers' environmental ethical decision intentions. We then developed implications for theory and practice in environmental ethical decision making.

The Impact Of Culture On Feedback-Seeking Behavior: An Integrated Model And Propositions, Mary Frances Sully De Luque, Steven M. Sommer

In recent research scholars have addressed the issue of an individual's behavior in feedback-seeking activity and, except in scant studies, have virtually ignored the role of culture in this area. In this article we explore four cultural syndromes, based on past research, to form a cross-cultural model of feedback-seeking behavior. We advance propositions for the study of culture as a moderator to feedback-seeking behavior.

A developmental performance appraisal system was designed, implemented, and evaluated for TRUE- VALUE HARDWARE. The developmental performance appraisal system was designed to clarify job expectations and job-related tasks for each employee's job and to provide employees with developmental job performance feedback. With employee and management input, the five performance dimensions on which the employees would be rated were determined. The 5 performance dimensions evaluated were customer service, quality, judgment/problem solving, team work and collaboration, and work management. Total Quality Management (TQM) is examined in five organisations in light of the assumption that its implementation is an ongoing negotiated order rather than an objective reality as often accepted by the literature. Guided by a theoretical framework identified by Spencer (1994) and a qualitative methodology suggested by Miles and Huberman (1994), the perceptions of a cross section of organisational members in five organisations are used to establish the nature of applied TQM in terms of mechanistic and organismic 'mental models' of organisation and the degree to which applied TQM varies from the basic doctrine. Real estate price indices based solely on samples of sold properties may not accurately represent the population of properties due to potential sample-selection bias. This study addresses this potential for sample-selection bias in the construction of commercial price indices within the context of the Phoenix area of®ce market. The empirical analysis con®rms the presence of sample-selection bias in the estimation of the total price equation. However, within this sample, the price indices generated after correcting for sample-selection bias do not appear signi®cantly different from those that do not consider selectivity bias.

This research project discusses the causes, recovery measures taken and the effectiveness of the measures to the Malaysian banking crisis in mid 1997. There are combination of factors that contributed to the crisis. Among the factors are excessive credit growth, over-exposure of lending to broad property sector and stock market, weaknesses in the banking system and external shock-currency attack. The aim of the study is to highlight the roles of Islamic debt securities or lsamic bond in Malaysian capital market which could be operationalized as an alternative to the conventional debt securities. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the growth of private limited companies and economic factors such as interest rate, the rate of inflation, the cooperative income tax rate, the GDP growth rate and the unemployment rate during the last business cycle (1986 - 1996). The results show that the net growth rate of new private limited companies is correlated positively with the CDP growth rate. However, it has a negative, albeit weak, correlation with the interest rate. Economic factors such as the company income tax rate and the inflation rate do not exhibit any significant relationship with the …
