Changes To Corporate Codes Of Ethics: A Twelve-Year Analysis, Curtis Silverman
Changes To Corporate Codes Of Ethics: A Twelve-Year Analysis, Curtis Silverman
Honors Projects in Accounting
The Enron scandal caused companies and their Board of Directors to reconsider how they were utilizing their code of ethics, especially after the legislation of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Enron's Board of Directors provided the CFO, Andy Fastow, with a waiver of the code of ethics to negotiate with himself, while also on behalf of Enron. The issue with this waiver was that, at the time, investors were left in the dark because they did not need to be notified about any changes or exceptions made to the code of ethics. After learning about why codes of ethics and …

The Impact Of Female Leadership On Lgbtq-Supportive Policies, Samantha Bove
Honors Projects in Finance
In the past two decades, gender inequality in c-suites has received a large amount of attention. Thus, the number of women in top management roles has increased substantially. However, the corporate sector has also neglected other marginalized groups, specifically, members of the LGBTQ community. These individuals are important employees and previous literature has established the benefits, both financial and otherwise, that the presence of LGBTQ supportive policies have on American corporations. In this paper, I examine if the presence of women CEOs influences the LGBTQ policies that are implemented in that firm. This will be analyzed using an OLS regression …

Scope For Pair-Wise Factor Substitution Strategies In Us Rural Transit Operations When Factor Prices Change, Gregory G. Lubiani, Albert A. Okunade
Faculty Publications
Rural transit providers face unique challenges beyond those of their urban counterparts, including worse road conditions, access to trained labor, tighter budget constraints, and higher miles per rider. To date, transportation economics and policy research is scarce for this essential service in rural geographies due to data paucity. Employing the Generalized Translog Cost-minimization model, the core innovation in this paper is presenting the first illustration of the cost-minimization strategies available to transit providers when faced with the constraints of sparsely populated geographic settings. Using a rich dataset of 42 U.S. rural transportation providers across 17 years, we estimate the operational …

The Stereotypical Perception Of A Spokesperson In A Sports Advertisement, Trinity Lennon
Honors Projects in Marketing
This study examines the gender role of a spokesperson and a type of sports in the "Match-Up Hypothesis." Two studies were conducted to test the effectiveness of sports advertisements for a gym membership: in a 2x2x2 experiment, the gender of the spokesperson, a type of sports, and the gender of the consumer are manipulated. Results indicated that females have a higher expectation of improvement when the gender of the endorser does not match the sport (Breaking the Glass Ceiling Effect). In contrast, males have a higher expectation of improvement when the gender matches the sport.

The purpose of the present study is to determine whether the stock return volatility of a short squeeze can be forecasted using variables such as trade volume, price patterns, short interest, market capitalization, and a stock’s outstanding shares. Nebraska Monthly Economic Indicators: April 20, 2022, Eric Thompson
Leading Economic Indicator Reports
The LEI-N rose by 0.89% during March 2022. The increase in the leading indicator, which is designed to predict economic activity six months in the future, signals continued economic growth in Nebraska through the 3rd quarter of 2022. The indicator improved for two primary reasons. First, initial claims for unemployment insurance fell during March suggesting continued strength in the Nebraska labor market. Second, respondents to the March Survey of Nebraska Business reported plans to increase sales and employment. By contrast, building permits for single-family homes fell during the month. There also was an increase in the value of the U.S. …

Similarly, Pakistan's National Command Operation Center (NCOC), in its national COVID-19 management strategy, generated guidelines for national implementation. Keeping the guidelines updated has proved challenging globally and locally. Here, we present a summary of the process to assess the evidence, including a time-restricted …

Cause related marketing efforts by multiple brands have grown over the past few years. With the growth of social media and even more awareness for multiple causes, consumers are pickier when it comes to brands that supports them. While many studies have been done when it comes to “greenwashing” (the tactics of brands to show their green initiatives), there are still more that needs to be done to understand the impact of “rainbowashing” marketing methods on consumer purchase intention. The importance of this study and how it can affect businesses are discussed. To get a feel for the potential effect …

Factors Influencing Small Business Employees’ Decisions To Return To Work, Alexis Kochanski
Research and Creativity Symposium
Some states in the early summer of 2021 decided to cancel their pandemic-related benefits nearly three months before the federal expiration date. The rationale was that removing this assistance would motivate the unemployed to reengage with the job market. The U.S. experienced a record number of job openings at that time; however, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reflected little change in the number and rate of hiring in the months that followed. This indicated that despite opportunities to return, potential employees were choosing not to return to work at all or seek specific opportunities. Remote and flexible work are two …
