Reducing Cost-Of-Care In Next-Generation Genetic Sequencing, Sarah Auletta

School of Business Student Scholarship

The cost of care in healthcare settings is rapidly rising, and it is increasingly difficult to decrease these costs without compromising quality and accessibility. This paper aims to investigate methods and potential opportunities for innovation of next-generation genetic sequencing in healthcare decisions and trajectories of care. Using various sources such as medical encyclopedias and peer-reviewed journal articles, this paper explores the ways in which genetic testing became popular in medicine and how genetic testing is currently being used. This knowledge is used to conclude the most likely trajectory of genetics within the field of medicine and its most cost-effective interventions. …

Understanding Family Firm Intentions To Use Private Equity: A Theory Of Planned Behaviour Perspective, Chris Graves, Pi-Shen Seet, Anneleen Michiels Nov 2022

Understanding Family Firm Intentions To Use Private Equity: A Theory Of Planned Behaviour Perspective, Chris Graves, Pi-Shen Seet, Anneleen Michiels

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Although past research suggests that family firms are less likely to use private equity (PE) financing, further research is required to identify the underlying reasons for such behaviour. Using the theory of planned behaviour and based on the analysis of data collected from 254 family firms, we identify the factors that explain a family firm's intentions to use PE. Family owners are more likely to plan to use PE when they have a favourable attitude toward PE, their intended succession strategy involves relinquishing control by selling the business sometime in the future, and they have a good understanding of PE.

A Hybrid Delayed Differentiation Multiproduct Epq Model With Scrap And End-Products Multi-Shipment Policy, Yuan-Shyi Peter Chiu, Ya-Lei Lo, Tsu-Ming Yeh, Yunsen Wang, Hung-Yi Chen Nov 2022

A Hybrid Delayed Differentiation Multiproduct Epq Model With Scrap And End-Products Multi-Shipment Policy, Yuan-Shyi Peter Chiu, Ya-Lei Lo, Tsu-Ming Yeh, Yunsen Wang, Hung-Yi Chen

Department of Accounting and Finance Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

The present work intends to optimize a hybrid delayed differentiation multiproduct economic production quantity-EPQ model with the scrap and end-products multi-shipment policy. Since the requirements of multi-goods have a standard part in common, our fabrication planning adopts a two-phase delayed differentiation strategy to make the standard components first and produce the finished multi-goods in the second phase. Implementing a partial subcontracting option (with the additional expense) for the standard parts helps us to expedite the required uptime in the first phase. A screening process identifies the faulty items that need to be removed to ensure the in-house production quality. A …

Students received a personalized DISC behavioral profile and educational activities were used to enhance the value of the behavioral profiling initiatives. Using pre- and post-activity surveys of …

“Best Employers”: The Impacts Of Employee Reviews And Employer Awards On Job Seekers’ Application Intentions, Yunxuan (Carrie) Zhang, Cass Shum, Amanda Mapel Belarmino Nov 2022

“Best Employers”: The Impacts Of Employee Reviews And Employer Awards On Job Seekers’ Application Intentions, Yunxuan (Carrie) Zhang, Cass Shum, Amanda Mapel Belarmino

Hospitality Faculty Research

While hospitality researchers have examined the impacts of user-generated content on customers, research regarding the impacts of employee reviews on job seekers’ application intentions is scarce. Yet, labor shortages in the hospitality industry have been amplified in recent years. The tight job market requires organizations to use aggressive and proactive recruitment strategies. As online employee reviews can attract both active and passive job seekers, organizations are increasingly advertising their jobs on these sites. This study draws on the elaboration likelihood model (ELM) and tests the boundary condition of work experience on the effects of overall star-ratings and employer awards on …

Marketing's Contribution To Consumer Welfare, David W. Stewart

Marketing & Business Law Faculty Works

The marketing discipline emerged in the early 20th century in response to the needs for new institutions and processes for delivering goods and services to an increasingly urbanized and diverse market. Evidence suggests that the value delivery system(s) that have emerged have substantially improved consumer welfare. This history and success of the marketing discipline is frequently overlooked in discussions of markets and marketing. This paper suggests the need to place discussion of the role of marketing and its contributions to social welfare in an appropriate historical context. It also draws attention to the need for research on the complementary roles …

Organizational Citizenship Behavior, Sarah Stepanek, Megan Paul Nov 2022

Organizational Citizenship Behavior, Sarah Stepanek, Megan Paul

Umbrella Summaries

What is organizational citizenship behavior?

Organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) is defined as “individual behavior that is discretionary, not directly or explicitly recognized by the formal reward system, and in the aggregate promotes the efficient and effective functioning of the organization” (Organ, 1988, p. 4). This definition has been further refined to specify that OCB supports task performance in organizations by enhancing the work environment where task performance takes place (Organ, 1997). OCB is one of the three main domains comprising workplace performance, along with task performance and counterproductive work behavior (CWB; Dalal, 2005). OCB is thought to be conceptually opposite …

Counterproductive Work Behavior, Sarah Stepanek, Megan Paul Nov 2022

Counterproductive Work Behavior, Sarah Stepanek, Megan Paul

Umbrella Summaries

What is counterproductive work behavior?

Counterproductive work behavior (CWB), also sometimes referred to as workplace deviance, is defined as “voluntary behavior that violates significant organizational norms and in so doing threatens the well-being of an organization, its members, or both” (Robinson & Bennett, 1995, p. 556). CWB is one of the three main domains of workplace performance, along with task performance and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB; Dalal, 2005). CWB and OCB are thought to be conceptually opposite constructs; CWB is behavior that harms an organization, whereas OCB is behavior that helps an organization. Indeed, CWB and OCB are modestly and …

Modelling Consumer Behavior In The Context Of Virtual Market Space, Services, Impulse Buying And Higher Education., Smitha Nayak

Management Collection

Human behavior is often characterized by deviations from perfect rationality and influenced by numerous factors that could the researcher’s view of underlying causalities. Exploring antecedents of human behavior provides a pathway for managers in making evidenced-based management decisions. Thus, I have an interest in contributing to a deeper understanding of modeling consumer behavior. Through my research journey, I have published papers on modeling consumer behavior, primarily in the context of service marketing, impulse buying, and healthcare. My research interests are also anchored around higher education and has resulted into a bok chapter titled Management Education for Global Leadership: Need for …

Collective Mindfulness And Strategy, Aniruddha Chatterjee Nov 2022

Collective Mindfulness And Strategy, Aniruddha Chatterjee

Management Collection

Contemporary organizations are continually exposed to profound uncertainty and novelty. The collective mindfulness of organizational members facilitates sensing and interpretation of such environmental changes to effectively respond, adapt, and evolve. Collective mindfulness is a capability that enables organizational members to be alert to their context while continuously learning and ‘thinking on their feet’.

Despite the growing popularity of the concept since its inception around three decades ago, research on collective mindfulness nevertheless remains nascent. Several research opportunities and gaps have been identified, but inadequately addressed. For instance, much extant research on collective mindfulness has focused on High-Reliability Organizations (HROs) such …

The Maritime Transportation Sector: Addressing Key Challenges Towards Sustainable Development, Rayan Dui

Center for Business Research and Development

The present business landscape expects sustainability from the most diverse organizations. However, sustainability issues in maritime transportation have taken a lower priority among its stakeholders. The different maritime stakeholders have started to become aware of their sustainability responsibility as interest in sustainable shipping has grown among retailers and their shipping vessels, leading to cost-efficiency in their operations and compliance with regulations and conventions set forth by the IMO (Lister, 2015). It must be noted that the maritime transportation sector is central to the worldwide economy as it is responsible for transporting products of all kinds and accounts for approximately ninety …

Is The 340b Hospitals Battle At The Supreme Court Over?, Casey W.. Baker, Susan W. Lanham, Alberto Coustasse

Accounting Faculty Research

Under the Federal 340B Program, hospitals and eligible health care clinics that serve low income or rural populations can qualify for federally negotiated manufacturer discounts on purchases of prescription drugs. Approximately 50,000 entities participate in the 340B program, where pharmaceutical manufacturers are instructed to supply outpatient medications to participating providers at discounted rates of 20% to 50%. Participating hospitals depend on profits from the differential between their reimbursement for these drugs and the discounted rates they disburse to finance affordable patient care in underserved communities. On June 15, 2022, the US Supreme Court ruled that major cuts to 340B payments …

Radio Frequency Identification Enhances Patient Safety, Craig Kimble, Alberto Coustasse, Ken Maxik

Pharmacy Practice & Administration

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technology that uses tags and readers to identify and collect asset information. In pharmacies, this usually means RFID is used for high cost equipment or pharmaceuticals. RFID applications have been in use for many years but recently gained traction in health systems. RFID is becoming particularly effective in drug inventory and automation applications, such as medication carousels and pick-to-light systems.
