2023-April-19-Rotation Spotlight- Sydney Fields ('23) Infectious Disease Focus At Va, Bill Gatton College Of Pharmacy, East Tennessee State University, University Marketing And Communication, East Tennessee State University
ETSU News
Meet Sydney Fields ('23), from Jacksboro, Tennessee, who experienced a rotation in infectious disease at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.
What does your day look like on rotation?
Each day begins with a thorough assessment of each patient on the ID service where we assess for optimization or de-escalation of antimicrobial therapy based on patient specific parameters. Once the pharmacy team has adequately assessed each patient, we collaborate with the infectious disease providers during patient care rounds where treatment plans and drug therapies are implemented. Throughout the day we continue to trend labs, follow …
Things To Consider Before Co-Signing A Loan, J. David Aiken
Things To Consider Before Co-Signing A Loan, J. David Aiken
Cornhusker Economics
In the context of family farms, includes some general points to consider before you sign a loan guarantee for a family member who is heavily in debt.
Conclusion: Having to consider whether to co-sign a child's loan is a very difficult situation-no one wants to be part of losing part of the family farm or ranch to loan foreclosure. But if the loan guarantee isn't part of a financial turnaround plan that has at least a fighting chance of success, don't sign the guarantee unless you absolutely don't need the money for your own retirement.

Quality Fintech In The Context Of The Japanese Main Bank System, Kanji Kitamura
School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works
This chapter discusses what boosts digital transformation (DX) in the Japanese banking sector, focusing on the non-technical side of fintech in the context of the Japanese main bank system (MBS). This chapter first identifies Japan’s country-specific business purposes by looking at the economy, institution, and individual levels of the society. Using country-specific elements as case themes, qualitative case studies reveal that compatible fintech with local cultural values of preference leads to successful technological development. The findings suggest that quality DX supports country-specific strategies established to benefit the society. This chapter concludes that, although Japan’s DX appears to be lagging behind, …

Importance In Decreasing Blood Culture Contaminations, Jannery Valdelamar
MSN Capstone Projects
Blood culture collection was a skill introduced while in nursing school. We are all human and make mistakes, and sometimes errors are made. Blood culture contamination happens. It happens even more in hectic departments like Emergency Department and Intense Care Unit. The American Society for Microbiology and Clinical Laboratory Standard have recommended that the %3 should be the overall rate for blood contamination rate (Center for Disease Control, 2023). In the current facility that I am in, blood culture contamination is an enormous issue. The facility rate is 9.3%, the Emergency Department was 11.3%, and the Phlebotomy was 5.2%. Multiple …

Not far away, another team is assessing how to get safe drinking water to residents of a remote village, while local elementary and middle school students dig deep in honing their skills in harvesting fresh vegetables.
Outside groups, including a local Air Force squadron, also are on site periodically to participate in mock disaster scenarios or other training exercises. And in the AdaptoPlay and “Go Baby Go” areas, young children …

“He was really a positive force in our program, and I have never heard one unkind word about him from anyone. His loss has been devastating for us all.”
Dan Boner has many cherished memories of Aaron Foster, known by everyone as Frosty. Originally from upstate New York, Frosty came to ETSU with dreams of a future in bluegrass music. As a student, he performed in the Bluegrass Pride Band, recorded with other students, worked with the JAM program at University School, and ran the youth bluegrass programming for the Jenny Brook Festival in New York.

Medical documentation is an essential part of healthcare and conducted at the highest standard; documentation ensures the delivery of safe and high-quality healthcare services (Noureldin et al., 2014). Performance Improvement team reports the same poor outcomes each quarter that may be a result of the paper-based documentation system. These outcomes include patient safety, patient satisfaction and cost-effectiveness. This narrative review’s purpose is to determine whether the implementation of an electronic health record (EHR) system could improve outcomes. Evidence-based guidelines for the implementation of an EHR need special consideration to have a successful transition. Further studies may need to be reviewed …

The purpose of this project is to examine why the mental health of employees should be prioritized in the workplace. Most employees have likely experienced a visible illness or injury at some point during their careers. It is easier to identify these physical ailments that may adversely affect an employee's performance at work, such as a broken leg or the common cold. However, there are conditions that are much less visible that negatively impact employees every day, and mental health is one of them. A person's mental health is a significant factor in their work life that should not be …

Augmented reality (AR) integrates virtual content into a consumer's perception of the real world. While academic interest in AR is growing, most prior research has focused on consumer evaluations of AR content and neglected the physical context in which AR content is consumed. Addressing this research gap, two experimental studies showed that context (e.g., experiencing a virtual sofa at home vs. in a university classroom) impacts consumer judgments and evaluations. The results reveal two primary effects of context. First, contexts in which virtual objects meet users' personal and cultural expectations associated with a specific location (e.g., a sofa in a …

Deficit Irrigation Management For Irrigated Corn In Nebraska: Economically Viable?, Lia Nogueira, Cory Walters, Emily O'Donnell, E. Wesley F. Peterson, Suat Irmak

In this study we determine the economic value of deficit irrigation management using both technological and methodological advancements. The use of soil moisture probes represents the technological improvement. We provide improvements in the methodology as follows. Regarding data, we employ a field-size study, instead of plots, where the irrigation decision is determined by the moisture level in the soil measured through a soil moisture probe. Regarding the understanding of the yield response to water, although we examine the commonly used quadratic function, we improve upon this specification by also examining an alternative response function, the linear response stochastic plateau. A situational experiment was conducted in China resulting 622 valid responses. Purpose
This study examines the contextual variables that can curb the negative effects of role conflict on job satisfaction and enhance the positive effect of job satisfaction on creativity and service performance. More specifically, adopting the job demands-resources theory, the authors explore the interactive effect of frontline employee (FLE) self-monitoring and FLE-manager trust on the relationship between role conflict and job satisfaction. Extending this line of inquiry, the authors adopt social identity theory and analyze the moderating effect of FLE-manager identification on the relationship between job satisfaction and creativity and between job satisfaction and service performance.

Accounting Faculty Articles and Research
The Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) in China is unique worldwide in requiring disclosure of the timing, participants, and selected content of private in-house meetings between firm managers and outsider investors. We investigate whether these private meetings benefit hosting firms and their major outside institutional investors—blockholder mutual funds (i.e., funds with ownership ≥5%). Using a large data set of SZSE firms, we find that blockholder mutual funds have more access to private in-house meetings, and top management is more likely to be present, especially when a meeting is associated with negative news. Furthermore, when blockholder mutual funds attend negative-news meetings with …

Military veterans’ skillsets and experience are multi-faceted, giving veterans the capability of adaptation, leadership, and decision-making as a general foundation on which they have built many other focused skills (Albertson, 2019; Carpenter & Silberman, 2020; Davis & Minnis, 2017). The use of a directed training intervention to educate and enlighten hiring teams within the human resources field is essential to changing perspectives and giving decision-makers the tools necessary to properly screen candidates for hire. This qualitative study’s purpose was to do just that. The overall purpose was to decrease transitioning veteran unemployment rates by educating Human Resource Departments (HRDs) and …
