Seven Top Opportunities For Utah Girls And Women, April Townsend, Susan R. Madsen

Marketing and Strategy Faculty Publications

Although national and statewide studies continue to show that women and girls in Utah are not thriving in critical areas, the Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) also wanted to explore what Utahns believe are opportunities for females in the state. With Utah continuing to have high levels of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, and gender-based discrimination1 and ranking as the worst state for women’s equality with low levels of women’s leadership representation in nearly all domains, Utahns need reminders that there are opportunities available. Even though we do know that the needle has moved slightly in …

How To Build A Competitive Advantage For Your Brand Using Generative Ai, Yuanyuan (Gina) Cui, Patrick Van Esch, Steven Phelan

Marketing and Hospitality, Resort and Tourism Management

Generative Artificial Intelligence––defined as AI-enabled technology that analyzes and learns from existing data and generates novel human-like content –– has emerged as a revolutionary technology for firms seeking sustainable competitive advantage. We highlight the evolution of generative AI from generic, domain tailored and collaborative systems, that are democratized and only offering demand-driven insights, to the next frontier of alternative perceptual systems. Managers who integrate these current large language models into building their brand persona will empower their firms to experiment along the evolutionary journey. By embedding alternative perceptual systems into generative AI platforms, firms can achieve novel, interactive, and personalized …

The Role Of E-Participation, Human Capital, And Corruption-Free On Environmental Performance, Mohammad I. Merhi, Punit Ahluwalia

Information Systems Faculty Publications

There are many concerns at the global level about environmental performance. The United Nations has created a framework for measuring national development goals that enable environmental sustainability. This paper examines the relationships between technological and social factors as enablers of environmental performance and draws from technological determinism and human agency paradigms. It fills an important gap in the literature by empirically examining the hypothesized relationships. The specific examined factors are online service (maturity and quality), IT infrastructure, e-participation, corruption-free, and human capital. Environmental performance is the dependent variable. These factors are relevant to ten of the seventeen goals that the …

Visitor Use Management: How The Timed Entry Permit Reservation System At Parks And Protected Areas Influence The Perception Of Sustainable Recreation And Impact Visitor Motivations, Cassandra L. Onufrak

Masters Theses

Parks and protected areas across the United States have undergone substantial change in recent years, specifically pertaining to visitation trends and patterns. National parks have endured rapid growth in park visitation and popular attractions within park boundaries now experience a high visitor concentration and traffic. As visitation within national parks increases, there is a high probability that visitor-related impacts, such as vegetation trampling, wildlife disturbance, soil erosion, and intra-visitor conflict, are also likely to increase. Visitors are more likely to feel crowded and rushed, and ultimately label their park experience as low or poor quality. Through the use of Visitor …

The Effects Of The Tax Credit On The Used Electric Vehicle Market, My Tu T. Tran

Undergraduate Economics Working Paper Series

In the past few years, tax credits have become the fundamental policy instrument to incentivize the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States. However, contemporary research primarily focuses on new EVs, while the impact of tax credits on the used EV market remains obscure. This research aims to enhance the knowledge of EV adoption by examining the potential effects of the Used Clean Vehicle Credit, a federal program providing up to $4,000 credit to eligible consumers. We have collected sales data of used cars from 245 CarMax locations in the U.S. between 2021 and 2023 to assess the …

The research, employing a flexible case study methodology involving 15 micro-business founders in Ontario, explores the approaches used, differences in outcomes when goals are achieved versus not, and the role of project management in mitigating potential business failure. Analysis reveals five key themes, including lack of defined strategic goals, the unintentional use of …

Formalized Succession Planning: A Need In East Tennessee Health Departments, Elizabeth A. Maples May 2024

Formalized Succession Planning: A Need In East Tennessee Health Departments, Elizabeth A. Maples

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Gaps in employment competencies can hinder the government from serving the public and the community. The lack of succession planning and the turnover of employees can cause unnecessary strain and unstable situations within an organization. This problem can lead to decreased productivity. Undefined criteria for potential candidates remain an issue of succession planning because leaders have no best way to compare or evaluate applicants. With a growing need to fill jobs, employers complain about a lack of qualified workers. While research included the importance of succession planning, this study will include the need for a formalized succession planning process with …

An Examination Of The Perceived Impact Of Social Networking On Discipleship In Yalobusha County, Mississippi, Gary Bernard Walton

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Significant technological advancements in this new digital age and culture have increased digital and online technology. However, churches faced many challenges in integrating, creating, and transitioning new media platforms to develop a cooperative network society to train and equip disciples. Some research showed that many clergies vehemently opposed the use of digital platforms for discipleship, primarily because those leaders believed that digital discipleship platforms were insufficient in power to be transformative as compared to what would occur at a traditional church location (Campbell & Garner, 2016). This phenomenological research study aimed to understand better the perceived impact of social networking …

Alumni Support For Ncaa Division I Reclassification, John F. R. Harter, Matthew Howell

EKU Faculty and Staff Scholarship

We surveyed alumni of Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) in an attempt to measure their support for the school changing classifications in NCAA membership from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) up to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Using a contingent valuation method (CVM) mechanism, we show that alumni who intend to attend more football games in FBS are most likely to support the reclassification and support it most strongly. In general, alumni who donate to the university anyway, are out-of-state residents, are former intercollegiate athletes, attend football games, and think athletics are important would favor the reclassification.

Proctor & Gamble’S Irreverent Wartime Marketing Campaign, Mary Gifford

History & Classics Student Scholarship

In the early twentieth century, Ivory Soap was renowned in America as a “dependable, old fashioned house-hold soap,” but by mid-century they began to face struggles with the rise of competition from similar soap companies and needed to differentiate themselves. The market was at capacity, with the “sales of soap to consumers rapidly reaching the saturation point and synthetic detergents coming into wider use, soap manufacturers face the ‘keenest competition in years.’” This saturation coincided with economic challenges stemming from World War II. During this turbulent period, marketing for non-essential products declined, prompting Procter & Gamble, Ivory Soap’s parent company, …

Health Prompts Affect Consideration Of Health But Not Intertemporal Preferences While Promoting Healthier Food Choices, Olivier Tuyizere, Christopher Gustafson, Devin J. Rose May 2024

Health Prompts Affect Consideration Of Health But Not Intertemporal Preferences While Promoting Healthier Food Choices, Olivier Tuyizere, Christopher Gustafson, Devin J. Rose

Department of Agricultural Economics: Faculty Publications

Diet-related diseases impact populations across the globe. While intertemporal preferences—a fundamental preference for the distribution of benefits across time—have been used to explain low-quality food choices, the recent literature proposes another cause: inattention to the future implications (or opportunity costs) of the options faced. Food choices tend to become habitual to conserve cognitive resources, rather than carefully modeling future health impacts. Both low discount rates for future benefits and attention to future health impacts predict healthier decisions. While intertemporal preferences are stable, attention may provide an opportunity to intervene in the decision process to promote healthier decisions. In this study, …

The Effects Of Relationship Quality And Duration On Negative Word-Of-Mouth After A Low-Contact Service Failure, Tuğberk Kara, Tugba Tugrul

Marketing Faculty Publications

This article examines the effects of relationship quality (RQ) and relationship duration (RD) on negative word-of-mouth (WoM) after a low-contact service failure. Partial least square structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data collected through a scenario-based online survey (n=153). First, unlike the inconsistent findings in high-contact service research, the results showed that RQ led to decreased negative WoM in low-context service failures, namely telecommunication. Second, this research contributes to the literature by revealing the negative effect of RD on customers’ tendency to spread negative WoM. In addition, RD did not moderate the relationship between RQ and negative WoM.
