Bite-Size Market Research Tools: Micro Surveys And Usability Studies, Mark Aaron Polger Nov 2024

Bite-Size Market Research Tools: Micro Surveys And Usability Studies, Mark Aaron Polger

Publications and Research

Library marketing activities should always be informed with user data. When conducting market research, you don't need a large sample to see the "big" picture. Developing scalable micro assessments such as mini surveys, usability studies, interviews, and focus groups with only a few questions can add value to your library's marketing and outreach efforts. With quantitative research, you are expected to have a large sample. However, that is not the case when conducting market research. In this presentation, micro assessments will be shown to be more effective, easier to manage, and garners more responses than more lengthier surveys.

Financial Analysis, Tina N. Barrett Nov 2024

Financial Analysis, Tina N. Barrett

Cornhusker Economics

The investment in a financial analysis can seem like a painful task of gathering information but the information it provides gives you invaluable information about your operation, especially when you don’t want to see it. I was once told a producer didn’t want to do the analysis anymore because the information made it hard to sleep at night. While not knowing maybe helped him sleep then, the problems that were being highlighted by the analysis didn’t go away and eventually caught up to him.

An Exploration Of Internal Control System Of Ethiopian Banks, Fekade Adera Tesfaye

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Adequate internal controls enhance an organization's likelihood of achieving objectives in a changing business environment, contribute to organizational growth and competitiveness, support compliance with regulatory requirements, and help in preventing and identifying fraud, embezzlement, and waste. This qualitative case study explored the potential lack of adequate internal control systems in Ethiopian banks that impact their operational and financial performances. The study sought to understand how these banks design and implement internal controls and to identify factors contributing to the potential lack of adequate internal controls. The study was guided by the COSO internal control framework, which is widely accepted for …

A Markov Regime-Switching Event Response Model: Beef Price Spread Response To Processing Capacity Shocks, Eunchun Park, Christopher N. Boyer, Clinton L. Neill Nov 2024

A Markov Regime-Switching Event Response Model: Beef Price Spread Response To Processing Capacity Shocks, Eunchun Park, Christopher N. Boyer, Clinton L. Neill

Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Faculty Publications and Presentations

This research introduces a new method for event studies in time-series analysis named the Markov regime-switching event response model (MS-ERM). The MS-ERM is a comprehensive approach that integrates two different event study approaches: 1) measuring the impact of an event through structural shift and 2) measuring the impact via additional distributional components. As an empirical application, the study measures the impact of beef-packing plant closures on the weekly live-to-cutout beef price spread. The results indicate that the MS-ERM is a promising tool for event studies, particularly when an empirical dataset has both groups of events that cause and do not …

Pathways To A Diverse Legal Academy: Pipeline Programs After Sffa, Steven W. Bender Nov 2024

Pathways To A Diverse Legal Academy: Pipeline Programs After Sffa, Steven W. Bender

Seattle University Law Review Online

Responding to the Supreme Court’s 2023 Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College (SFFA) decision invalidating race-conscious admission policies in a public and private university, I urge an emphasis on pipeline programs to ensure law school admissions pools include racially diverse applicants. I detail my school’s pipeline programs for high school, college students, and recent college graduates—both as these programs were implemented before the Court’s decision and as they changed in its wake—as examples of what law schools generally, and collectively, should be doing. Most importantly, I focus on the lawful recruitment, design, and content …

Boycotting Campaigns And Consumption Practices: Insights From Egypt In The Aftermath Of The 2023 Gaza War, Maha Ahmed Zaki Dajani, Israa Lewaa, Hadia Fakhreldin

Business Administration

This study investigates the impact of Egyptian boycott campaigns following the Gaza war in 2023 on consumption behavior. It uses the lens of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) to examine how the intention to consume (or not to consume) originating from attitudes, social norms, and perceived behavioural control leads to intentions that are reflected in different consumption behaviours. This study uses a mixed methodology, where it blends quantitative statistical analysis with indepth qualitative interviews. First, a pilot study is carried out to ensure the relevance of the survey questions. Then an online questionnaire posted on social media and sent …

Exploring Online Destination Brand Advocacy, Violetta Wilk, Saalem Sadeque, Geoffrey N. Soutar

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

This paper explores online brand advocacy (OBA) in a tourism destination context. Through a Social Influence Theory lens, it explores the ways in which residents and overseas tourists discuss Australia as a destination brand on social media. By analyzing a big dataset of social media user-generated content (UGC), this study sought to identify the key dimensions evident in positively valenced social media UGC, to see whether these dimensions varied between residents and overseas tourists, and to see whether the dimensions reflected OBA. The analyses found online destination brand advocacy (ODBA) had five dimensions: Destination Acknowledgement (hashtags), Destination Insights, Destination Positivity …

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly changed how universities provide education -- teachers switched to online teaching methods, while students quickly adapted to the online learning environment. This study adopts the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework to examine differences in student and faculty perceptions of online learning due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Student and faculty perceptions can be used to evaluate and ultimately improve the quality of education. This study used survey methods and data collection instruments with a Likert scale sample of 150 students and 150 faculty from a US university. This study’s results indicate a significant difference …

The Impact Of Cash Holding Decisions On Firm Performance In The It Industry, Jaeseong Lim, Bong Keun Jeong Nov 2024

The Impact Of Cash Holding Decisions On Firm Performance In The It Industry, Jaeseong Lim, Bong Keun Jeong

Accounting

This study examines the relationship between corporate cash holdings and firm performance within the IT industry, which is characterized by intense competition and rapid technological advancements. We propose an integrated framework that combines principal component analysis (PCA), machine learning (ML) algorithms, and Shapley additive explanation (SHAP) values to estimate and interpret model outcomes. Based on 21,051 corporate financial statement data items from 2004 and 2023, the empirical evidence supports an inverted U-shaped relationship between cash holdings and profitability, suggesting that holding either too little or too much cash is suboptimal. Among the tested models, the random forest demonstrates the highest …

Road To Net Zero: Greenness Of Leadership In Energy And Environmental Design And California Green Building Standards Code In The Multifamily Sector, Jamie Jung, Michael Cusumano, Dongshin Kim, Abraham Park

Finance, Banking and Real Estate Faculty Publications

This study evaluates the effectiveness of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen) sustainability programs in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in multifamily buildings. We find that CALGreen effectively reduces GHG emissions by 7.2%–11.6%. However, among properties completed during the CALGreen period (on or after 2015), LEED-certified properties exhibit 14.1%–20.8% higher GHG emissions compared to non-LEED-certified buildings. We attribute this result to the emphasis on theoretical design versus actual energy performance of those programs. Furthermore, our research reveals that LEED-certified buildings completed before the implementation of CALGreen command a rent premium of 4.7%–5.4%. …

Narcissism And Psychopathy: Some Considerations Of Gender Effect, Simon Croom Nov 2024

Narcissism And Psychopathy: Some Considerations Of Gender Effect, Simon Croom

School of Business: Faculty Scholarship

This working paper examines the nuanced relationship between narcissism and psychopathy, with a specific focus on how these traits manifest among females in both community and corporate contexts. Drawing on a 12-year research programme into dark-triad traits, the paper highlights key differences between grandiose and vulnerable narcissism, distinctions between narcissistic emotional reactivity and psychopathic affective detachment, and gendered variations in psychopathic expression—including relational aggression, emotional instability, and covert manipulation. Findings from corporate samples reveal unexpected patterns, such as elevated rebellious nonconformity and coldheartedness among female executives. The paper argues for gender-sensitive psychometric assessment and increased attention to under-recognised forms of …

Educational Leadership's Role In Fostering Innovation And Entrepreneurship In Education: A Narrative Literature Review, Zeina Hojeij

All Works

In recent years, educational leadership has come under increased scrutiny due to rising expectations and demands for accountability. Despite the proliferation of leadership models, there remains a notable gap in comprehensive reviews that connect progressive leadership theories with fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in education. This narrative literature review aims to identify pertinent theories of educational leadership—such as instructional, distributed, and transformational leadership—and explore their potential applications in driving innovation and entrepreneurship within educational settings. The objective is to assess how these leadership approaches can cultivate creativity, encourage risk-taking, and champion entrepreneurship to enhance educational outcomes. This review draws from databases …

Pity The Poor Reader, Charles H. Haddad Nov 2024

Pity The Poor Reader, Charles H. Haddad

School of Communication and Journalism Faculty Publications

I conceived my book “Pity the Poor Reader” as an un-textbook, an irreverent “Elements of style.” Like Elements, it’s designed to complement textbooks. Pity is concise, memorable and portable. Under 300 pages, Pity serves as an aspiring writer’s keepsake. Concision lies at the heart of Pity. The key concepts of writing well are distilled into irreverent, memorable lines and axioms. Many of them are organized as lists that are easily printed and taped to a wall or a computer. Indeed, in testing the book with my university students, I’ve found that many of them did print out its list of …

Guide To Supplementary Feeding And Budgeting, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

Animal production and livestock factsheets

Supplementary feeding of sheep, with grain, hay or silage is necessary when pastures or stubbles are deficient in energy and protein.

A good supplementary feeding program will ensure sheep utilise as much dry paddock feed as possible as well as provide sufficient supplementary feed for maintenance or growth.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development recommends supplementary or confined paddock feeding to maintain livestock productivity and avoid animal welfare and soil erosion problems.
