Asymmetric Relationship Between Competition And Innovation: Evidence From Banks In The Eurozone, Kenny Tee, Konstantinos Syriopoulos, Ghulame Rubbaniy, Amna Salim

This study examines the asymmetric relationship between competition and innovation in Eurozone banking, using data from the original 11 Economic and Monetary Union member states. Employing the technology gap ratio for innovation and the Lerner index and Boone indicator for competition, we find an inverted-U pattern: innovation initially rises with competition but declines beyond a threshold. Granger causality tests confirm bidirectional causality on the upward slope but none on the downward, highlighting nonlinearity. These findings suggest that moderate competition fosters innovation, while excessive rivalry stifles it. Policymakers should balance competition to maximize innovation without undermining long-term technological progress.

As people group themselves by their political ideologies, ideological alignment is likely to occur in workgroups—including boards of directors. While some research highlights positive outcomes from shared group characteristics, homogeneity can also hinder decision-making due to fewer perspectives being considered, limited sharing of non-conforming information, and narrowed problem solving. Building from prior research, we contend that substantial political alignment between a CEO and board members aligns them toward a common cognition, which fosters negative effects associated with homogeneity and subsequently reduces firm performance. We further contend that these performance reductions can be mitigated by psychological traits associated with managerial discretion. …

Amid global geopolitical realism pushing for a race of hegemonic rivalry nowadays, an outflow of global human talents is a pressing organizational concern. Our study draws attention to the underexamined phenomenon of the exit of foreign directors from their host countries during geopolitical tensions. Theorizing from a sensemaking logic, we posit that the deterioration of bilateral political relations serves as an unexpected event that activates foreign directors’ schemas for dual identity conflict, propelling them to react behaviorally to such identity threats by exiting the board in the host country. Technology discontinuance by users who quit digital services such as social media or lose interest in their devices after a few weeks is a common phenomenon. Yet it has received little research attention; the few studies that address it are scattered across disciplines. Research into customer churn is more prevalent, but it implies switching providers rather than halting usage altogether. By moving beyond discipline-based knowledge boundaries and conducting a systematic literature review, the current article proposes a technology discontinuance framework, which details seven technology discontinuance types (overuse, overload, proficiency, disenchantment, social, circumstantial, and solution) and their drivers. Managing The Personalization Paradox: Lessons From Spotify’S Ai Dj, Anirban. Mukherjee, Hannah H. Chang, Jonathan Wibowo

This case study uses Spotify’s AI DJ to examine the “personalization paradox,” where product features designed to deepen user connection can instead cause alienation. An analysis of over 1,400 user comments identifies three core frictions: a perceived loss of user agency, mismanaged expectations for the human-like AI, and a scalability bottleneck that led to repetitive content. Students are placed in the role of a product manager tasked with developing a prioritized roadmap to address these issues, forcing them to grapple with the critical trade-offs between technological capability and user psychology.

Many AI projects fail because leaders treat adoption as a tech purchase instead of a behavioral change problem. People resist tools that disrupt routines, overreact to visible AI errors, and prefer familiar human judgment. As a result, even good systems fail to gain purchase. Leaders can address this problem by applying “Behavioral Human-Centered AI” across the AI adoption cycle. In the design phrase, companies should co-design with diverse users, add purposeful friction where it improves scrutiny, require beta tests with subgroup results and behavioral input. This study investigates the career development journey of highly skilled Nigerian, Ghanaian, Kenyan and Tanzanian business postgraduate migrants in Ireland, focusing on the interplay among learning experiences, systemic barriers, and career shocks. Drawing on Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT), Situated Learning Theory (SLT), and Career Shock (CS), the study examines how self-efficacy develops through participation in Communities of Practice (CoPs) and how resilience enables skilled migrants to overcome shocks as they progress from education to employment in a Global South to Global North context. Employer-sponsored health insurance covers millions of Americans under 65, yet not all employees share the financial burden equally. This brief explores how underserved communities particularly Black, Hispanic, and American Indian/Alaska Native employees often pay a disproportionately high share of their income toward family coverage premiums. This study explores how Green Digital Transformation (GDT) affects Sustainable Development Performance (SDP), with a particular focus on the mediating roles of Green Knowledge Sharing (GKS) and Green Dynamic Capabilities (GDC). Drawing upon the Natural Resource-Based View (NRBV) and Knowledge-Based View (KBV), the research develops and empirically tests an integrative model using data from 386 SMEs in the UAE’s innovation-driven industries. Findings from Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) reveal that GDT significantly improves SDP, both directly and through the mediating influences of GKS and GDC. Social information processing theory is a well-known perspective that is used across a variety of domains, including leadership, organizational behavior, entrepreneurship, and more. Despite being formulated nearly 50 years ago, this perspective has gained momentum of late and is being applied with greater frequency in the management domain. However, the question remains as to how current applications and knowledge align with the original tenets of social information processing theory. In this paper, we seek to answer this question. This paper provides a literature review of United States of America’s reliance on imported Covid Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) during the Covid pandemic. The abstracted and cited articles show that the United States was too reliant on imported PPEs, primarily imported from Asia which led to shortages as the cases of Covid surged at various points during the waves of Covid cases. This supply and demand imbalance was not just an inconvenience such as the toilet paper shortage and other supply chain disruptions of basic commodities; this supply and demand imbalance had life and death impacts for many first responders, …

This policy primer provides an overview of Nevada’s transferable tax credit program for film and other productions and reviews articles, reports, audits, and studies of film tax credits as a tool for economic development in the United States. This review considers a significant body of work analyzing the use of film tax credits in support of economic development. Studies and state audits often show that because film tax credits do not create the number and quality of full-time jobs necessary to merit their costs and do little to stimulate other related industries, they are a poor financial choice for state …

The Stony Island Arts Bank (SIAB) in Southside Chicago was designed and founded as a piece of art itself, with the organizational structure being a museum of Black cultural production. This article examines how the institution constructs an epistemology of Blackness through its archival practices, community programming, and spatial claims on the South Side. Founded by artist Theaster Gates through the Rebuild Foundation, the SIAB positions institutional design as an art medium, operating in productive tension with orthodox museum methods. The permanent collections—including the Johnson Publishing Company archives and Frankie Knuckles vinyl collection—function as epistemological records of Black self-documentation unmediated …

This study examines the relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and financial performance among publicly-traded insurance companies in the United States. As CSR evolves from voluntary ethical practice to strategic business imperative, understanding its financial implications becomes crucial for corporate decision-making and stakeholder value creation. As central banks tightened interest rates during 2022 and 2023, important debates arose regarding the relationship between monetary policy and financial stability. This Article illuminates one path through which the prolonged period of accommodative monetary policy from 2009-2021 impacted financial stability: it traces how easy money and yield-seeking behavior in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis and COVID-19 pandemic led to a bubble in the venture capital industry, which in turn spawned a crypto bubble as well as a run on the VC-favored Silicon Valley Bank. Predicting crop prices is a complex challenge that farmers must navigate each year, but machine learning algorithms can provide valuable insights to support more informed decision making. In recent years, agricultural price prediction models have made significant advances, with architectures achieving varying degrees of success. Businesses primarily provide products or services, expand operations, and generate profits. However, they frequently disregard the environmental and economic consequences of their actions as they strive for profitability and growth. Consequently, the main objective of this research was to examine the impact of a multifaceted supply chain function on performance. Data were collected from 415 respondents employed in various manufacturing companies within a developing economy. The hypotheses were evaluated using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) through Smart PLS. The findings discovered that ten of the thirteen hypotheses tested were supported, while three were not.
