This study investigated residents’ perceptions, perceived risk, trust in government, and support for a mega-religious event during the COVID pandemic. The study was conducted in the setting of the Kumbh Mela, India’s largest peaceful gathering of Hindu pilgrims. The respondents in the survey rated thirty-two statements related to positive impact, negative impact, perceived risk, trust in government, and support for the mega-religious event. Levene’s test for equality of variances and an independent samples t-test were used to investigate differences in residents’ perception and support before and after the mega-religious event. This study aims to analyse the contribution of Marian Paths to the development of individual sites. The theoretical framework of the work is an empirical study which uses databases such as Science Direct, Emerald, Google Scholar, and Web of Science databases to identify suitable themes for empirical evidence (2015-2021) on pilgrimage paths and local development. Based on this, 19 interviews were undertaken to develop an understanding of developments, particularly in the area of Fátima, Portugal. The contents of the interviews were analysed using NVivo. This exercise in Norway ‘close-maps’ accurate, existing geometries between thirty-two latitude / longitude points of mostly medieval churches and other sites on the major pilgrimage path through Gudbrandsdal to Trondheimsfjord where the martyr St.Olav was venerated. Site data and basic path routes are taken from the Pilegrimsleden website, popular today with religious or recreational tourists. It is important to understand the choices tourists make. This study identifies the factors that influence the tourists’ choice of way. We revisit the pros and cons of introducing cartel criminalization in the EU. We document the recent EU “leniency inflation”, whereby leniency has been increasingly awarded to many (or all) cartel members, which softens the “courthouse race” effect. Coupled with the insufficient protection of leniency applicants from damages (2014 Damages Directive), it may have led to a decrease in leniency applications and cartel convictions. In the aftermath of the sub-prime mortgage bubble, the Federal Reserve implemented large scale asset purchase (LSAP) programmes that aimed to increase bank liquidity and lending. The excess liquidity created by quantitative easing (QE) in turn may have stimulated bank risktaking in search of higher profits. Using comprehensive data on balance sheets, risk measures, and daily market returns in the U.S., we investigate the link between QE, bank risk-taking, profitability, and systemic risk. We find that, particularly during the third round of QE, banks that were more exposed to the unconventional monetary policy increased their risk-taking behaviour and profitability. However, …

Histories of the development of professions show a profession’s relationship with the state as key to its authority. Yet professions, to gain technocratic authority, also strive to depoliticise their discourses to gain technocratic authority. This dilemmatic tension is particularly true for the economics profession. The historical development of the Irish economics provides an interesting case, where a complicated relationship with the state ultimately strengthened the profession within a society.
