Logistics & Supply Chain Management: Faculty Presentations (1998-2020)

In recent years, many academic institutions have implemented more stringent academic qualification standards by increasing research requirements for faculty. This paper analyzes the impact of changing research requirements in terms of faculty research output. We model the academic research pipeline including review and revision processes as a queue network and study the stationary behavior of the research pipeline. Both a theoretical model of the publication process and a simulation showing numerous combinations of submission strategies and publication requirements are presented. Economic Growth And Recessionary Periods: Their Effect Upon Pleasure Travelers, Mark A. Bonn, H. Leslie Furr, Mo Dai

Two tourism-oriented travel samples were drawn from recent time periods that represented economic growth (expansion) and recession cycles in the O: S. economy. Analysis suggests that during the recession period, a greater percentage of theme park visitors chose to travel by air. Second, theme park travelers were more likely to visit friends or family during the recession period. Third, recession theme park travelers were 10 years older, on the average, than their rapid growth counterparts. The average age difference of theme park visitors was found to be significantly different during cyclical economic periods. Research findings support the need for additional …

The Independent Rep As A Source Of Competitive Advantage: An Actionable Scale For Rep Selection, Kathleen H. Gruben, Barbara J. Coe

This study develops a scale that offers an actionable approach for suppliers’ use in selecting their reps. Rep selection is the critical first step suppliers take in developing profitable, long-term relationships with retailers. Retailers’ loyalties are often bestowed on the rep, rather than the supplier. As identified in the study, the rep needs to be professional, accommodating, ethical, sensitive, and compassionate to satisfy the retailer. The scale provides suppliers a technique for measuring these characteristics. Prior to this scale, no instrument was available to measure these characteristics, which increase the retailer’s likelihood of developing loyalty.

The problem of this study was to compare the Statesboro, Georgia business community's expectations of printing companies to the expectations printers perceive the businesses have. All of the local printers, and a sample of the local Chamber of Commerce corporate members (non-printers) were given identical survey forms which measured their expectations and perceptions. The forms were hand-delivered, picked-up the next day and tabulated to put the data in graphical form. A comparison of the two groups revealed some agreement and some disagreement in expectations and perceptions. After completing the study, it was determined that the research method is valid and …

This study consisted of research conducted at The Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM) and The Georgia Southern Museum (GSM). Research at SMM consisted of exploratory research involving an unobtrusive observation of interpretive theatre programs performed at that museum and the effect of interpretive theatre on museum visitors. Particular attention was paid to the influence of theatre on children as the sample population for continued research at GSM was children ages 8-12.
