In this paper, an attempt is made to conceptually unite three different application areas for semantic technologies, namely personal Knowledge Management, social networking, and Peer-to-Peer information-sharing. Until now, semantic technology has been applied to each of these application areas separately or in binary combinations only. By functionally combining all three areas in a single application, it is hoped to sketch a compelling Semantic Web system that will help increase the spread and acceptance of the Semantic Web vision. A concrete usage scenario of a community of researchers is used to demonstrate the approach.

This paper presents an application of the Critical Social Theory (GST) in understanding cyberspace behavior. CST can be used as one of qualitative methodologies in IS research. However most prior IS research utilized a very narrowly drawn insight from CST without historical and social context considered. This study tries to apply a general concept of CST for the purpose of providing plausible explanation for cyberspace behavior. CST identifies unjust conditions and tries to find the cause through critical reflection, which eventually might lead to emancipation of people. In this paper, a cyberspace behavior case of a relatively developed country where …

The Restech Connections Cd Project: A Case Study On The Social Construction Of Risk, Jason Koch, Jack T. Marchewka
Communications of the IIMA
Risk management is an important component in understanding and managing information technology (IT) projects. The traditional view of risk management focuses on a three-stage process: identifying risk, assessing risk, and developing a strategy for dealing with each risk. This, unfortunately, may give project stakeholders a false sense of security. Although the application of risk management philosophies, techniques, tools, and methods to managing IT projects is not new, the idea of viewing risk as a social construction outlines a new paradigm for understanding and managing risk. Since the idea of a social construction view of risk has been introduced only recently, …

Taking a contract management subsystem as an example, the paper shows how to mine the system log toward a intelligent personalized ERP system.
Lying About Private Information: An Ethical Justification, Sabah S. Al-Fedaghi
Lying About Private Information: An Ethical Justification, Sabah S. Al-Fedaghi
Communications of the IIMA
Lying motivated by a fear of misusing private information is a key issue in ethics with many important applications in law, business, politics, and psychology. In this paper, lying is separated according to two types of assertions: lying about non-private information and lying about private information. This distinction is applied to the case of the 'known murderer' in the context of Kant's categorical imperative. The main result of the paper is narrowing the ethical dilemma to a choice between 'a zero private information society' and 'an alTlying-about-private-information society'. We claim that privacy as a universal requirement supports lying about private …
