Encapsulated in pink, Barbie epitomizes a dreamland that stimulates feelings of nostalgia, joy, and imagination, fulfilling individuals’ desire to escape. Mattel, the parent company of Barbie, and Warner Bros. through 100 or more brand collaborations (del Barco, 2023), has relentlessly swept the world with a blitz of Barbie-themed merchandises, such as Barbie dreamhouse rentals, Barbie gaming consoles, Barbie pasta, Barbie pink suitcases, Barbie apparels, bright fuchsia Xbox, Barbie boat cruise, pink burger, etc. Staggering surge for online sales of Barbie-themed products affirms the impressive upswing of online consumers’ interest in Barbie.
With the significance of Halloween, the popularity of Barbie, …

Emotional health problems in the workplace often hinder the integration and retention of autistic employees (AE), a challenge identified in many sectors. Recent literature highlights the consequences of these problems, such as burnout leading to reduced productivity and resignation. Previous research supports the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) for training a variety of specific skills (e.g. riding a bus or plane travel), as well as more complex social skills, such as emotion recognition and functional communication. In addition, existing studies on using physiological self-monitoring in AE training offer a promising approach to promoting improved emotional health. The present paper reports …

Do Only Americans Own America? Foreign Investment In Agricultural Lands In The United States, Larry W. Van Tassell
Do Only Americans Own America? Foreign Investment In Agricultural Lands In The United States, Larry W. Van Tassell
Center for Agricultural Profitability
Foreign investment in the United States, while not a new phenomenon, has recently caught the attention of the American public and members of the U.S. House and Senate after an Air Force officer raised concerns when the Fufeng Group, based in Shandong, China, purchased 300 acres of farmland 12 miles from an Air Force base in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to build a corn milling plant (Javers, 2022). National security concerns prompted the U.S. Senate to propose a bill prohibiting the purchase of land in the U.S. by companies or individuals from China, North Korea, Iran, or Russia.

Measuring Monetary And Non-Monetary Roi At Mmc Opex, Suneela Nayak, Natalia Johnson, Rebecca A. Brookes, Jill Shiroki
Operations Transformation
Operational Excellence (OpEx) is a data driven approach to department based continuous improvement, minimizing costs, increasing efficiencies, engaging staff in a shared quality agenda and assuming a proactive approach to maintaining facilities. The OpEx platform assists in strengthening efficiency and patient safety at Maine Medical Center (MMC) by demonstrating alignment of goals across the entire organization. A recent publication by BMC Health services “… found that the ROI concept in healthcare QI aligned with the concepts of value and benefit, both monetary and non-monetary.”2. Currently, OpEx does not have a system in place to track these values. We are looking …
The Paradox Of Leadership Coaching In A Vuca World, Raymond L. Forbes
The Paradox Of Leadership Coaching In A Vuca World, Raymond L. Forbes
All Faculty and Staff Scholarship
What does it feel like to be living right in the middle of a major paradox? Disorienting? Confusing? Unbalancing? One of the definitions of a Paradox is a situation, person, or thing that combines contradictory features or qualities. For many organizational leaders today dealing with paradox has become a recurrent feature of executive life. The contradictory features may arise in the form of a choice between apparently diametrically opposed alternatives. In fact, in the worst case, the best available options might all be equally undesirable. This uncertainty over paradox seems to be reflective of the many quandaries confronted by leaders …

Institutional Survival Under Extreme State Repression And Subsequent Revival, Hongwei Xu, Litao Zhao
Institutional Survival Under Extreme State Repression And Subsequent Revival, Hongwei Xu, Litao Zhao
Odette School of Business Publications
This study examines institutional survival under conditions of extreme state repression. We argue that institutional values under these onditions become dormant in small “safe” social spaces such as families and small close-knit social groups. As state repression becomes increasingly violent, the suppressed groups within those spaces become more resilient in preserving “deviant” values and mitigating the negative long-term impact of state violence on institutional revival. We examine the extent to which pre-1949 entrepreneurial families served as institutional carriers for private entrepreneurship in the Mao era (1949-1978) of China, especially in the context of the political violence of the Cultural Revolution …

Blockholdings, Dividend Policy, Stock Returns And Return Volatility: Evidence From The Uae, Umar Butt, Trevor William Chamberlain
Blockholdings, Dividend Policy, Stock Returns And Return Volatility: Evidence From The Uae, Umar Butt, Trevor William Chamberlain
All Works
This paper examines the relationship between the presence of blockholdings and stock returns and return volatility in the United Arab Emirates. Earlier studies report mixed results for the direction of the relationships across both developed and emerging markets. This study focuses specifically on these relationships in a dividend policy framework. This study further investigates the role of blockholder type by distinguishing between government, individual and corporate blockholders. Our results indicate that blockholder ownership reduces stock return volatility for both non-dividend-paying and dividend-paying stocks, does not impact returns and is not perceived as expropriating the wealth of other investors. We also …

Information Systems Faculty Publications and Presentations
Boosted by greater demand for convenience and then turbocharged by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, online food delivery (OFD) has witnessed rapid growth over the past several years. Despite such growth, however, it is still unclear how incentives and payoffs of various parties are affected by the three-sidedness of the OFD market, which involves consumers, restaurants, and gig drivers—beyond the traditional two-sided setting. In this paper, we study the OFD platforms’ optimal choices in a competitive setting where the platforms compete on both prices and service quality. Our analysis shows that conventional insights from two-sided platforms do not completely carry …

A Qualitative Analysis Of Corporate Responsibility For The Education Of U.S. Citizens, Heidi Leslie O'Donnell
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Educated and trained workers represent the primary critical success factor needed for all organizations to achieve their mission. Organizations depend on a constant flow of educated applicants competing for their jobs at any given time. Traditionally, public, private, and charter schools prepared U.S. citizens for college, trade schools, military, or university, enabling them to then compete successfully for jobs of the era. Today, a myriad of problems face these schools, including disruptive change, uninvolved parents, lack for funding, teacher unions, politics, school overcrowding, COVID-19, outdated training methods, security, race issues, and more. The result is that this education model is …
