Pharmaceuticals And Intellectual Property: Meeting Needs Throughout The World, Thomas G. Field Jr.

To the extent that most people think about patents and other forms of intellectual property at all, they tend to be aware that the owners of such property may have the legal capacity to limit market entry--without fully appreciating the extent to which products or processes that can be easily copied might otherwise be unavailable. Focusing on their function in recouping risk capital, this article will survey the types and functions of intellectual property. Then it will attend to the situation in developing countries, particularly the role of intellectual property in meeting their needs for medical products.

The National Undersea Research Program (NURP) is a federally-funded program that provides scientists with modern in situ technology that allows them to conduct research that goes beyond the constraints of traditional oceanographic methodology. NURP is comprised of five regional centers that administer underwater science, and through the principal investigators that are supported generate a vast quantity of diverse data. Many organizations have been attempting to build a conceptual framework for managing technology, with varying degrees of success. Most begin by consulting leading technology authorities, borrowing elements of their thinking, and adapting these elements to their organizational and personal situations. This dissertation extends this process by using the formal research methodology of multiple perspectives (technical, organizational, personal, and cross-cuing) to build a case-based model of the technology integration process. The Arguments of Agriculture presents the major issues, questions, and conflicting opinions of influential policymakers and critics concerning the role and future of modern agriculture. The author urges the reader to weight and consider all positions and supplies a primer in the basic arguments of agriculture. Each chapter begins with a series of hypothetical cases that illustrate the range of theoretical issues discussed in the chapter. According to leading expert opinion, industrial robots are among the most important innovations of recent decades. Yet there is very considerable uncertainty (and disagreement) as to the rate at which the use of robots will spread and what their effects on employment, costs, and market structure will be. Information Technology In Youth Agencies : A Rural Perspective, Rod Underwood, Barry Sherridan

A survey of rural youth agencies investigated current or projected applications of computer technology to agency management and service delivery. The expectations of agency administrators regarding computer usage by youth workers, the nature of training provided or considered desirable, and identification of issues critical to the applications of computer technology in rural youth: services were studied. Youth agencies generally recognised that computers have the potential to enhance the quality of service provision. The lack of formal training in the use of computers may have serious implications for future developments.
