The ability to use quantitative, objective flight data in order to improve training and operations has dramatically changed in the last decade.  By taking advantage of hundreds of sensor collecting digital data on single engine aircraft, the use of Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) programs become more feasible for non-airline operations.  With the integration of FOQA data use into university aviation operations, multiple opportunities exist for a complete utilization of this data in a variety of applications.

Hotel Room Rate And Availability Parity Across Electronic Distribution Channels, Subashini Selvaraj

This is an exploratory research paper looking at the parity of hotel room rates and hotel room availability across electronic distribution channels. The fulfillment of the best rate guarantee of hotels was also analyzed. The study surveyed 40 hotels in Singapore, covering 4 hotel segments, luxury, upscale, mid-market and budget with data collected over 5 dates. The results were analyzed across segments and dates of collection and it was found that neither rate nor room availability parity existed across all the hotels surveyed. This is a professional paper which explores the correlation between user-generated reviews on TripAdvisor.com and how a hotels’ TripAdvisor Popularity Index ranking affects a hotels’ RevPar. The study surveyed nine hotels in Dallas, TX, three hotels in the four star level, three hotels in the three star level, and three hotels at the two and one half star level. The study focus’s on the strength of TripAdvisor in the hotel industry, the credibility of reviews, influence and expectations of guest that are developed due to the reviews, and lastly the impact the reviews on TripAdvisor have on a hotels’ RevPar.

The case study was conducted to determine the effects of the cleanliness of the guest rooms and the effects to the hotels bottom line in implementing Activeion’s Ionator EXP as a new cleaning method to be used in the hotel guest rooms by the room attendants as opposed to the traditional cleaning method using 5 different cleaning chemicals to clean the guest rooms. The Ionator EXP is a chemical-free cleaning system. It is a hand held cleaning spray bottle unit that holds, cleans, and sanitizes with water. The Ionator EXP uses ionization, electricity and oxygen to clean.

The purpose of this study was to develop specifications for a mobile application for meeting and conference attendees. The set of features was determined by comparing the current offerings of mobile applications for meetings and conferences. There was a discussion of the purpose of meetings and conferences, followed by a review of the history of meetings technology. The mobile software development process was also explored. The paper resulted in the creation of flow charts and wire-frame outlines that would be used to develop a mobile application for meetings and conferences.

This technology gathers data during flight on airframe, powerplant, and flight parameters of the airplane. This study evaluated how the new technologies influenced the inspection process of the airplanes, as well as highlight new skills required by the inspectors to utilize the technologies. The primary purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate how a paperless BAS can affect the overall performance of a school’s administrative activities. The research included direct observation, survey questionnaires, document review, and both structured and unstructured interviews.

The selected school, a K-12 charter school, was an ideal candidate for this study as it allowed unrestricted access. The effects of the move to a paperless BAS were overwhelmingly positive. These effects included enabling employees to complete their resource requests more speedily and accurately. By participating in the implementation of a closed-loop biodiesel supply chain, students learned the significance of communication and the interdependence of the myriad programs.

Storage of wood biomass is not a new concern, but our current focus on using wood for renewable energy has brought it back to researchers’ attention. Since much of the past research done on pile storage relates to paper pulp chips, most of it dates to the 1960s and 1970s. Fiber shortages during that period caused increased interest in higher pulp yields (Zoch, Springer, & Hajny 1976). Straight bladed fixed pitched vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) offer several potential advantages over the standard horizontal axis wind turbines which are now in common use worldwide. The purpose of this study was to determine the need for further research and develop on improved airfoil or blade characteristics for use on straight bladed fixed pitched VAWT. This need was demonstrated by the design and construction of an airfoil that was physically modeled and field tested. The test showed that asymmetric airfoils would enable SBVAWTs to self start.

Access To Business Research Resources Through Academic Library Web Sites: A Survey, John C. Gottfried

This study is an examination of access to business research resources through academic library Web sites, including research databases, catalog services, research guides, and business librarians. The Web sites of 114 academic libraries serving top business programs in the United States were studied. Results reveal a wide range of access to business research databases among the schools studied (anywhere from 11 to 100 business databases available). Over 95% of the schools provided business research guides, and nearly all schools provided at least some contact information for business librarians.
