When libraries create innovative spaces—or spaces for innovation—they are mostly public-facing spaces. They might be learning commons, makerspaces, collaboration rooms, digital production labs, 3D printing stations, innovation studios, kiosks, incubators, and other buzzwords for physical spaces designed to foster creative productivity through technology and collaboration. At the same time, these transformations have the effect of framing library innovation as heavily public-facing and presenting innovation in terms of technology adoption. Mobile game application entrepreneurs can offer many benefits to the U.S. economy; however, 80% of the entrepreneurs in this study stated that marketing their mobile applications was a major business challenge. Based on Schumpeter’s theory of economic development and new value creation of technological innovation, the purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the strategies that entrepreneurs have used to market their mobile game application development businesses successfully. Assimilation Of Tracking Technology In The Supply Chain, Rahul Basole, Maciek Nowak

Information Systems and Operations Management: Faculty Publications & Other Works

While tracking technology has become increasingly accessible, firms still struggle with deploying these technologies into the supply chain. Using the complementary perspectives of transaction cost and institutional theory, we develop an understanding of how supply network, product, and environmental characteristics jointly impact tracking technology assimilation. We empirically test our model on a global dataset of 535 supply chain executives and decision makers. The results suggest that assimilation is frequently initiated by an external stakeholder in a firm's supply chain and that firms must develop strong collaborative ties with their partners in order to take full advantage of this technology.

This study examines the structure of entrepreneurial stories in pursuit of mobilizing resources from crowds. Based on a comparative analysis of Kickstarter crowdfunding campaigns, we examine in particular how, across different project types, project histories and potential futures are framed and interlinked in narratives to appeal to funders. We find that projects are narrated in different styles – as ‘ongoing journeys’ or ‘results-in-progress’ – to convey project value. The former style narrates projects as longer-term endeavors powered by creative initial ideas and a bold vision, inviting audiences to ‘join the journey’; the latter narrates projects more narrowly as a progression …

The study aims to examine customers’ emotional reaction to brand collaboration, taking into consideration the possible combination of different brand equities using three experiments. Mobile phone is selected as the hypothetical product. Samsung is selected as the brand with the highest awareness in the mobile manufacture category whereas Burberry is selected as the brand with the highest awareness in the fashion category. The enactment of the America Invents Act (AIA) in 2011 ushered in a new system for post-grant patent review. In the interest of enhancing the efficiency of the patent regime by invalidating “bad” patents, certain requirements were relaxed. Compared to large established firms, technology-based new firms (TBNF) seem well placed to produce breakthrough innovations although questions remain as to their adeptness at subsequent exploitation. Building on the innovation and strategy literatures, the study identifies two different knowledge-development approaches or modes (business models) in TBNFs—internal versus external—and examines their relation to breakthrough innovation and subsequent progression of the product to market. น้ำมันไพโรไลซิสจากสาหร่ายขนาดเล็กเป็นทางเลือกของเชื้อเพลิงหมุนเวียนที่สามารถนำไปใช้ทดแทนเชื้อเพลิงฟอสซิลได้ เนื่องจากมีค่าความร้อนที่ดีและมีปริมาณกำมะถันต่ำ ส่วนน้ำมันหล่อลื่นใช้แล้วเป็นอีกทางเลือกหนึ่งของเชื้อเพลิงทดแทนที่มีราคาต่ำและเป็นขยะอันตรายที่มีการสนับสนุนให้ถูกนำกลับมาใช้ใหม่ จากที่องค์กรทางทะเลระหว่างประเทศประกาศให้มีการใช้น้ำมันเตากำมะถันต่ำ (กำมะถันน้อยกว่า 0.5% โดยน้ำหนัก) ในการขนส่งทางเรือ มีผลบังคับใช้ในวันที่ 1 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2563 และการผลิตน้ำมันเตากำมะถันต่ำจากเชื้อเพลิงปิโตรเลียมยังมีข้อจำกัดด้านต้นทุนและกระบวนการในการผลิต ผู้วิจัยพบว่าการผสมน้ำมันระหว่างน้ำมันไพโรไลซิสจากสาหร่ายขนาดเล็กและน้ำมันหล่อลื่นใช้แล้ว มีความเป็นไปได้ในการนำมาผลิตน้ำมันเตากำมะถันต่ำเพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการในอนาคต ในงานวิจัยนี้เลือกน้ำมันไพโรไลซิสที่ผลิตจากสาหร่ายสไปรูลิน่าเนื่องจากการเก็บเกี่ยวที่ง่ายและได้ผลผลิตน้ำมันสูง โดยนำสาหร่ายแห้งมาผ่านกระบวนการไพโรไลซิสด้วยเครื่องปฏิกรณ์ไพโรไลซิสแบบต่อเนื่องขนาด 3 ลิตร และน้ำมันหล่อลื่นใช้แล้วได้จากโรงงานปรับปรุงคุณภาพน้ำมันหล่อลื่นใช้แล้วด้วยกระบวนการตกตะกอนและกรองเพื่อแยกน้ำและสิ่งปนเปื้อนออก น้ำมันทั้ง 2 ชนิดถูกผสมด้วยอัตราส่วน 100:0, 80:20, 50:50, 20:80 และ 0:100 เพื่อทำการทดสอบคุณสมบัติตามมาตรฐาน ISO 8217 ซึ่งเป็นมาตรฐานของน้ำมันเตาที่ใช้ในเรือขนส่ง
ผลการศึกษาที่ได้ พบว่าการผสมน้ำมันไพโรไลซิสจากสาหร่ายขนาดเล็กในอัตราส่วน 20% และน้ำมันหล่อลื่นใช้แล้วในอัตราส่วน 80% ซึ่งเรียกในงานวิจัยนี้ว่า MLB20 มีความเป็นไปได้ในการใช้ผลิตน้ำมันเตากำมะถันต่ำในเชิงพาณิชย์มากที่สุด โดยมีคุณสมบัติที่สำคัญดังนี้ ความหนาแน่นที่ 15 องศาเซลเซียส 910.9 kg/m3 ความหนืดที่ 50 องศาเซลเซียส 87.26 mm2/s ปริมาณกำมะถัน 0.461% โดยน้ำหนัก ปริมาณขี้เถ้า 0.515% โดยน้ำหนัก ปริมาณน้ำ 4.1% โดยน้ำหนัก และค่าความเป็นกรด 5.4 mg KOH/g โดยพบว่า MLB20 มีคุณสมบัติผ่านเกณฑ์ของ ISO 8217 ทั้งหมด ยกเว้นเพียงปริมาณขี้เถ้า ปริมาณน้ำและค่าความเป็นกรด ซึ่งสามารถนำไปใช้พัฒนาในงานวิจัยในเชิงพาณิชย์ต่อไป

"This research examines the impact of framing and priming on users' behavior (i.e., action) in a cybersecurity setting. It also examines perceptual outcomes (i.e., confidence, perceived severity, perceived susceptibility, trust, and fear) associated with the users' cybersecurity action. The research draws on prospect theory in the behavioral economics literature and instance-based learning theory in the education literature to generate the hypotheses for the research. A between-subject experimental design (N=129) was used. The results suggest that priming users to cybersecurity risks reduces their risk-taking behavior associated with cybersecurity whereas negative framing of messages associated with cybersecurity has no significant effect on …

"Traffic volume forecasts are used by many transportation analysis and management systems to better characterize and react to fluctuating traffic patterns. Most current forecasting methods do not take advantage of the underlying functional characteristics of the time series to make predictions. This paper presents a methodology that uses Functional Principal Components Analysis (FPCA) to create smooth and differentiable daily traffic forecasts. The methodology is validated with a data set of 1,813 days of 15 minute aggregated traffic volume time series. Currently, U.S. air carriers do not provide equipment or training necessary to mitigate the risk posed by surface-to-air fire (SAFIRE) threats. These threats consist of self-guided weapons (infrared shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles), manually-aimed threats (small arms, recoilless grenade launchers, rockets, and light anti-aircraft artillery), and hand-held lasers. Technological solutions to counter infrared shoulder-fired missiles have been explored, but were rejected due to prohibitive equipment and maintenance costs. A lower cost option, providing air-carrier pilots with SAFIRE risk-reduction training, has not been formally addressed by the air-carrier industry or the U.S. federal government.
