Nebraska Innovation Campus Materials

The Biotech Connector, the state’s first wet-lab business incubator, is now open for business at Nebraska Innovation Campus. Compani es already are using the newly completed 7,700-square-foot facility, according to DanDuncan, NIC’s executive director. The Biotech Connector is a collaboration between NIC and the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, the Nebraska Department of Economic Development,Bio Nebraska, Invest Nebraska and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. The facility provides incubation and acceleration services to bioscience startups and high-growth biotech and research-based businesses. The twenty-first century has brought significant technological advancement that permeates all aspects of our lives. The legal field, though slow in the adaption of this technology, is beginning to pick up the pace. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is used now to perform legal work once completed solely by legal practitioners. This Comment outlines what AI is and reviews the current use of AI in the legal field. It also identifies AI products and developments that are in place. Finally, it argues that lawyers will always be needed in the practice of law, despite the continued growth of AI.

This article is a synopsis of and set of recommendations emerging from a research project commissioned in 2009 and culminating in a working paper published in May 2010 by the Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Mossavar–Rahmani Center for Business and Government at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. The project was undertaken in the early days of social media and online interaction. Advances in the study of glycosoaminoglycan biohydrogels, label-free electrokinetic analysis of soft-diffuse layers in contact with saline solutions, and elucidation of ion-specific behavior in many biochemical systems offer the opportunity to marry these principal features in a new mathematical model of the mucosal glycocalyx. The model is based on the electroquasistatic subset of Maxwell's equations in the form of the steady-state continuum Poisson–Boltzmann equation for electrostatics with explicit incorporation of pairwise binding of ions to fixed charged-groups in the hydrogel.
