The Mediation Effect Of Trusting Beliefs On The Relationship Between Expectation-Confirmation And Satisfaction With The Usage Of Online Product Recommendation, Muhammad Ashraft, Noor Ismawati Jaafart, Ainin Sulaiman

The South East Asian Journal of Management

Online Product Recommendations (OPRs) are increasingly available to online customers as a value-added self-service in evaluating and choosing a product. Research has highlighted several advantages that customers can gain from using OPRs. However, the realization of these advantages depends on whether and to what extent customers embrace and fully utilise them. The relatively low OPR usage rate indicates that customers have not yet developed trust in OPRs’ performance. Past studies also have established that satisfaction is a valid measure of system performance and a consistent significant determinant of users’ continuous system usage. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the mediation …

Empowerment Of The Few And Disempowerment Of The Many - Disempowerment In Thai ‘One Tambon One Product' Organizations (Otops), Thomas Diefenbach

The South East Asian Journal of Management

Thai ‘One Tambon One Product’ organisations (OTOPs) have had considerable economic suc-cess since their initiation by the Thai government in 2001. However, in contrast to their ever-increasing economic relevance, OTOPs’ contributions to social development have been acknowl-edged and interrogated only very little. In particular the issue of empowerment, a key component of any social development whether within organisations, at community or even societal level, is strangely absent from any discourse about OTOPs. This article looks at how far the idea of em-powerment is realised within Thai OTOPs – or how far it is not realised. For this, a three-dimensional concept …

The Business Value Of Cloud Computing In South Africa, Kevin Allan Johnston Prof, Muzaffar Loot Mr, Maxine P. Esterhuyse Miss

The African Journal of Information Systems

Cloud computing is a prominent trend in the field of Information Technology (IT). Existing research presents the benefits and challenges of cloud computing, however few articles take a corporate approach. Moreover, considering that cloud computing provides numerous benefits, no research has aided the understanding of the business value associated with the technology and the context within which benefits and barriers are realised. The issues in South Africa make it difficult to prove the business value of cloud computing.

The aim of this paper is to provide insight into the business value of cloud computing using qualitative evidence extracted from an …

A Framework To Manage Sensitive Information During Its Migration Between Software Platforms, Olusegun Ademolu Ajigini, John Andrew Van Der Poll, Jan H. Kroeze Phd

The African Journal of Information Systems

Software migrations are mostly performed by organisations using migration teams. Such migration teams need to be aware of how sensitive information ought to be handled and protected during the implementation of the migration projects. There is a need to ensure that sensitive information is identified, classified and protected during the migration process.

This paper suggests how sensitive information in organisations can be handled and protected during migrations, by using the migration from proprietary software to open source software to develop a management framework that can be used to manage such a migration process. The research employed a sequential explanatory mixed …

Ambidexterity: The Interplay Of Supply Chain Management Competencies And Enterprise Resource Planning Systems On Organizational Performance, Serdar Turedi

Information Technology & Decision Sciences Theses & Dissertations

Understanding the business value of information systems (IS) is one of the key issues among practitioners. Specifically, the role of IS in supply chain management (SCM) is one of the main areas that practitioners focus, as the largest portion of production costs are traceable back to supply chain costs. Hence, inter-organizational systems (IOS) gain importance as a result of the increased competition between supply chain networks. Particularly, implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP), which is a type of IOS, becomes the new trend among organizations.

Although organizations use similar ERP, some gained significant benefits by using them, while others struggled …

A Response To “Transaction Cost Economics On Trial Again”, Michael Schermann, Philip Yetton, Helmut Krcmar

Information Systems and Analytics

We appreciate the careful and thoughtful commentary on Schermann et al. (2016) by Lacity and Khan (2016). Their commentary caused us to reflect on some of the underlying assumptions guiding our research. In the spirit of Lacity and Khan (2016), we do not attempt to defend our research and ‘win’ the conversation. Instead, we build on their insights to contribute to this potentially fruitful conversation among IS scholars started by Lacity and Khan (2016). We are grateful for the invitation from the Journal of Strategic Information Systems (JSIS) to do this.

Metro Meals On Wheels Treasure Valley Employs A Low-Cost Routing Tool To Improve Deliveries, Andrew S. Manikas, James R. Kroes, Thomas F. Gattiker

IT and Supply Chain Management Faculty Publications and Presentations

In this paper, we discuss a project in which we developed a spreadsheet-based system that interfaces with a no-fee driving-directions application programming interface to quickly and accurately build a travel time and distance matrix and then rapidly determine near-optimal delivery-route schedules using a modified genetic algorithm. To the best of our knowledge, the method we used to create the travel matrix had not been employed previously in an academic study. The tool was tested and refined in a humanitarian setting—a local branch of the Meals on Wheels Association of America (now Meals on Wheels America), an organization that combats hunger …

It provides affluent information about products or services for consumers, merchants, and business analysts. It brings convenience, and also confusion. People feel overwhelmed by the information they receive from online reviews. "Is this product real good, or just so so? What are the opinions of the other consumers who had experience on the item? Why the reviews from different sites read different?" These questions are frequently asked by the review readers. This dissertation answers the above questions by first investigating …

The Role Of Transaction Cost Economics In Information Technology Outsourcing Research: A Meta-Analysis Of The Choice Of Contract Type, Michael Schermann, Konrad Dongus, Philip Yetton, Helmut Krcmar Feb 2016

The Role Of Transaction Cost Economics In Information Technology Outsourcing Research: A Meta-Analysis Of The Choice Of Contract Type, Michael Schermann, Konrad Dongus, Philip Yetton, Helmut Krcmar

Information Systems and Analytics

Two recent reviews report that the empirical findings in information technology outsourcing (ITO) research are frequently inconsistent with the prevailing dominant analytical framework of transaction cost economics (TCE). While employing similar methodologies, the two reviews propose different strategies to resolve the inconsistencies. One is to improve the methodological rigor, specifically, the operationalization of TCE constructs. The other is to abandon TCE in favor of a new analytical framework. This paper presents a meta-analysis of the empirical findings on the choice of contract type as a function of task uncertainty. The results support both strategies. Refining the operationalization of TCE constructs, …

How Users Perceive And Respond To Security Messages: A Neurois Research Agenda And Empirical Study, Bonnie Anderson, Anthony Vance, C. Brock Kirwan, David Eargle, Jeffrey Jenkins

Faculty Publications

Users are vital to the information security of organizations. In spite of technical safeguards, users make many critical security decisions. An example is users' responses to security messages—discrete communication designed to persuade users to either impair or improve their security status. Research shows that although users are highly susceptible to malicious messages (e.g., phishing attacks), they are highly resistant to protective messages such as security warnings. Research is therefore needed to better understand how users perceive and respond to security messages. In this article, we argue for the potential of NeuroIS—cognitive neuroscience applied to information system (IS)—to shed new light …

An Analysis Of Technological Features Enabled Management Of Information Facets, Jim Samuel

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

Information age and big-data phenomena have created numerous and complex challenges in the form increasing information overload, information uncertainty and equivocality of information. Amidst this unparalleled deluge, it has become critical for organizations to optimize their information management efforts. Simultaneously, the growth of intelligent technologies has presented new opportunities for the use of technology-enabled features to process, comprehend and address informational challenges in meaningful ways. Past research has prioritized the importance of managing equivocality over other information facets. Equivocality of information, given its inherent and often conflictive multiplicity of meaning, can lead to significant loss of decision quality. Therefore the …

Task-Based User Profiling For Query Refinement (Toque), Chao Xu Jan 2016

Task-Based User Profiling For Query Refinement (Toque), Chao Xu

Dissertations

The information needs of search engine users vary in complexity. Some simple needs can be satisfied by using a single query, while complicated ones require a series of queries spanning a period of time. A search task, consisting of a sequence of search queries serving the same information need, can be treated as an atomic unit for modeling user’s search preferences and has been applied in improving the accuracy of search results. However, existing studies on user search tasks mainly focus on applying user’s interests in re-ranking search results. Only few studies have examined the effects of utilizing search tasks …
