Analysis Of The Effects Of The Commander's Battle Positioning On Unit Combat Performance, Thomas I. Pratt

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Commander's battle positioning on unit combat performance. Research was focused on analyzing the location of the Battalion/Task Force Commander during daytime deliberate attacks conducted at the U.S. Army's National Training Center, Fort Irwin, CA. Forty battles, from January 1986 to September 1989, provided the basis for this study. Information that described the Commander's location, a general description of the battle, and unit measures of effectiveness, was collected for each battle and put in a format that allowed for ease of analysis. A Study Of Variables To Help Predict Navigator Training Success And Classification, Gary A. Hagler

Theses and Dissertations

This study attempted to build statistical models which could possibly be used to help predict an individual's final outcome of pass or fail from Undergraduate Navigator Training (UNT). Also, the research tried to develop models to help place a potential trainee into one of the three training tracks at UNT. The variables studied were test scores from a computerized testing device which measured psychomotor and cognitive skills of individuals entering training. The Air Force Officers Qualifying Test (AFOQT) scores were also variables considered. Data was from 317 trainees from the years 1988 to 1990. Discriminant analysis was applied in an …

The Development Of An Officer Training School Board Score Prediction Method Using A Multi-Board Approach, Sandra C. Niemi Mar 1991

The Development Of An Officer Training School Board Score Prediction Method Using A Multi-Board Approach, Sandra C. Niemi

Theses and Dissertations

One phase in the Officer Training School (OTS) selection process is meeting a selection board. Recruiting Services (HQ ATC/RS) currently uses a regression model (based on data from one board) to evenly distribute 'quality' among the different panels in the selection boards. HQ ATC/RS wanted a method of predicting board scores based on data from multiple boards. This study used the results from eighteen boards and 9215 applicants to develop and validate a multi-board regression model for each of five application categories. Comparisons between the two models showed mixed results. In two categories, non- rated operations and technical, the single-board …

This thesis will focus on the corporate personnel problems that are expected to occur from the babyboom retirement and the babybust.

The Potential For Work Redesign Within Contemporary Organizations, Chris Du Boulay Jan 1991

The Potential For Work Redesign Within Contemporary Organizations, Chris Du Boulay

Research outputs pre 2011

Work redesign is not only important for the wellbeing of the employee, but it has also captured the imagination and zeal of some employers. Recent studies (Hendry, 1990 ; Cordery, Mueller & Smith, 1991) have indicated that employees become more positive and enthusiastic towards their jobs and employers experience gains in productivity. Over the years many people have examined the concept and need for work redesign (Hackman & Oldham, 1976; Galbraith, 1984; Pasmore, 1988). Concepts such as work simplification, job enrichment, job enlargement, socio-technical redesign, alternative work arrangements and quality of work life programmes have been introduced, developed and implemented. …

The Flexible Organization Design: Advantages And Pitfalls, Chris Du Boulay Jan 1991

The Flexible Organization Design: Advantages And Pitfalls, Chris Du Boulay

Research outputs pre 2011

Organization design, mission statements and management strategy are not often given the emphasis they deserve within the human service sector. These issues are given a great deal of emphasis within the mainstream commercial sector.

In the minds of many human service boards of management these issues are seen as secondary, behind the primary aim of assisting clients. While this priority is commendable, the secondary issues are rarely addressed sufficiently. The result is that the organization loses direction and fails to remain abreast of the changing demands of the client population.

Effective Disciplinary Process In Management, Ying-Lung Teng Dec 1990

Effective Disciplinary Process In Management, Ying-Lung Teng

Theses

The application of discipline is the punitive behavior by the employer to suppress the employee's undesired behavior in the work place. However, there are many considerations have to be concerned when applied discipline.

An organization has to support the supervisor when applying discipline because it gives the supervisor the great power in dealing with problem workers. Organizational policy has to specify the degree of discipline and timing of discipline in order to make the supervisor and the employee have an idea about discipline.

The employee becomes satisfied with supervision when the supervisor uses good leadership skills to manage. In order …

Effects Of Three Organizational Policies On Individuals’ Attitudes About Drug Testing, Alan Walker Dec 1990

Effects Of Three Organizational Policies On Individuals’ Attitudes About Drug Testing, Alan Walker

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The consensus of recent literature appears to be that drug testing is both legal and valid. However, a testing program can meet legal and technical criteria and still fail to meet organizational objectives because one vital component has been left out – employees’ attitudes. The present study uses data from 148 college juniors and seniors to assess the effects of three hypothetical drug testing policies: (a) consequences of detected drug use (termination vs. rehabilitation), (b) timing of the program (expected interval vs. random interval vs. reasonable cause), and (c) business purpose (weak vs. strong) on attitudes toward drug testing. It …

An Evaluation Of The Educational Background And Knowledge Base Of Air Force Information Management Officers, Summer E. Scott

Theses and Dissertations

This study compares the educational background and knowledge base recommended for Information Management professionals to that currently possessed by Air Force Information Management (IM) officers. The literature review revealed that information managers should have an educational background that provides them with knowledge in the areas of people, computers, systems, models, organization, and society. Statistics made available through the Air Force Manpower and Personnel Center (AFMPC) indicated that only 2.1% of all 70XX officers have a complete information resource management background, and only 7% have a technical or computer-related background.

An Examination Of The Perceived Computer Literacy Of Enlisted Air Force Administration Personnel And An Analysis Of Their Perceived Training Needs, Howard A. Bass

Theses and Dissertations

With the realignment of the Air Force administration career field under the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force on November 19, 1987, came a new set of requirements for all Air Force administrators. They were now responsible for electronic information as well as the written word. The question was, did the administrators have the technical capabilities, or computer literacy, needed to handle these new requirements. This study made that assessment and additionally made a determination of the enlisted administrators perceived computer training needs. The results revealed that only 64.3% of the respondents perceived themselves as computer literate. …

Also, a major consideration was to find correlations among the variables in nurse recruitment and retention that might lead to a better understanding of what influences the recruitment budgeting process and how recruitment dollars might be spent most efficiently.

There was no significant difference found between …

A Comparison Of The Effectiveness Of Civilian Conservation Centers And Contract Centers From 1984 To 1988, Robert P. Slaughter

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the continuous instability of policy decisions relating to the effectiveness of Civilian Conservation Centers and Contract Centers was a result of measurable differences in performance between the two models. Six hypotheses tested differences between types of centers on six quantitative variables which were: average length of stay, job placement, hourly starting wages, educational gains in reading, math, and General Educational Development (GED). To investigate the problem, 30 Civilian Conservation Centers and 17 comparably sized Contract Centers were selected. Reports from the Department of Labor's Automated Management System provided data for comparison …
