The Relationship Between The Number Of Sexual Harassment Incidents Reported In The Manufacturing Industry And Personnel Administrators' Knowledge Concerning The Problem, Brenda J. Willenborg Jan 1990

The Relationship Between The Number Of Sexual Harassment Incidents Reported In The Manufacturing Industry And Personnel Administrators' Knowledge Concerning The Problem, Brenda J. Willenborg

Theses

This thesis focuses on sexual harassment in the workplace and how it relates to personnel administrators' knowledge thereof.

As sexual harassment claims rise, businesses suffer tremendous financial loss. However, most researchers believe that many claims could be prevented if businesses implemented strong anti-sexual harassment policies, in addition to education and training for all employees. Personnel administrators are often assigned these difficult tasks without much thought as to how well-informed they may be about sexual harassment. If not very knowledgeable themselves, how practicable will their prevention programs be?

The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a relationship …

Inconsistencies And Turnover, Lori A. Strawhun Jan 1990

Inconsistencies And Turnover, Lori A. Strawhun

Theses

In any organization, turnover is inevitable - employees come and employees go. A great deal of research has been devoted to exploring the causes of turnover as well as turnover's costs and benefits. There is much to say about turnover. It is a complicated phenomenon affected by many variables and having many effects itself.

To better- understand turnover, several formulas have been created to quantify this phenomenon in terms of percentages. These formulas are presented and one formula was used to examine a company referred to in this text as "Company X". There is little agreement on how much turnover …

The Effect Of Employers' Attitudes On The Implementation Of Computer Aided Manufacturing Techniques In The Furniture Industry In Western Australia, Brian Ferguson Jan 1990

The Effect Of Employers' Attitudes On The Implementation Of Computer Aided Manufacturing Techniques In The Furniture Industry In Western Australia, Brian Ferguson

Theses : Honours

In this study, the incorporation of computers in industry is compared with the industrial revolution. It is envisaged that computers in industry will bring about similar sweeping changes to the workforce as those that took place during the eighteenth century. However, it is noted that, thus far, Australian industry leaders in general remain ignorant of these changes (Eckersley 1988,p.3) and the Western Australian furniture industry is no exception. If Australian industry in general and the Western Australian furniture industry in particular, are to avoid a similar decline in economic competitiveness to that experienced by European countries {Marcum 1986,p.28 ), there …

Development And Validation Of A Model For Training Maintenance Supervisors For Productivity Improvements In Manufacturing Operations, Robert Reed Johnson Jan 1990

Development And Validation Of A Model For Training Maintenance Supervisors For Productivity Improvements In Manufacturing Operations, Robert Reed Johnson

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The problem of this study was to develop and validate a training model for training maintenance supervisors. This training model focused on those areas, defined by industrial managers, where additional supervisory training was most likely to improve the performance of the maintenance departments.

Research of industrial and maintenance publications identified the maintenance function as having one of the lowest productivity levels in manufacturing organizations. Supervisor training was identified as a means to improve productivity in maintenance departments. An industrial survey completed by maintenance managers in manufacturing organizations in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin identified those activities that were the responsibility …

Employer Involvement With Postsecondary Technical Education Institutions, Kevin Hollenbeck Dec 1989

Employer Involvement With Postsecondary Technical Education Institutions, Kevin Hollenbeck

Conference Papers

Among the suggestions that have been put forward to increase the collaboration between the business sector and educational institutions as a means for accomplishing program improvement are supporting the existing system where the schools are generally healthy fostering innovative change, and working for major structural reforms in the system. However, economic principles of market structure need to be applied in judging the efficacy of business-education linkages, particularly at the postsecondary level, and in considering the extent to which these linkages should be encouraged by public policy. A market structure perspective provides a framework that is useful in judging the merits …

Linking Wages With Productivity By G. K. Suri & R. C. Mongra, New Delhi: National Productivity Council, 1989., B R Patil

IIMB Management Review

Improving employee productivity has been a problem in all economies - capitalist, socialist, and mixed on the one hand, and developed and developing on the other. The problem becomes quite complex when the issue of sharing the gains of improved productivity between industry and labor arises. The complex nature of this problem necessitates the exchange of views among all concerned to evolve guidelines for sharing the gains of productivity.

Employer Supported Childcare, Mark James Winstel Dec 1989

Employer Supported Childcare, Mark James Winstel

Theses

One of the more progressive types of employee benefits a company can offer to its work force is that consisting of child care.

While more and more businesses are getting into the concern, still only 10% to 15% of all firms have such a package to give their employees. There appear to be many advantages to having a benefits offering. Studies have determined there would be a reduction in absenteeism and turnover, improved hiring and recruitment, and even better productivity, to name a few.

Today, the typical family of the male wage earner with spouse and kids at home has …

Pay Equity: The Time Is Now, Stephanie Ann Nowack Jan 1989

Pay Equity: The Time Is Now, Stephanie Ann Nowack

Theses

The thesis "Pay Equity: The Time Is Now" by Stephanie Ann Nowak explores the persistent issue of wage disparity between men and women in the United States. Highlighting historical and societal factors, Nowak examines how traditional gender roles have contributed to systemic pay inequities, with women consistently earning less than men in comparable positions. This wage gap, exacerbated by societal expectations and occupational segregation, has been perpetuated by entrenched biases that undervalue women’s work, even in fields requiring similar skills to male-dominated roles.

Nowak discusses the impact of landmark legislation, such as the Equal Pay Act of 1964, which aimed …
