2023-July-12-Etsu Redesigns Infectious Disease Fellowship To Include Critical Care Medicine, University Marketing And Communication, East Tennessee State University

(July 12, 2023) East Tennessee State University has introduced a revamped infectious disease fellowship that now incorporates critical care, which will enhance physicians’ capabilities during pandemics.

Through the newly launched Infectious Disease Critical Care Fellowship, a comprehensive three-year program, fellows will receive specialized training in diagnosing and treating severe infections while also gaining increased exposure to critical care medicine. In collaboration with Ballad Health, this initiative aims to elevate the standard of subspecialty care, benefiting the local community and beyond.

JOHNSON CITY (July 11, 2023)— East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy welcomes a new resident and research fellow, each furthering their postgraduate pharmacy training in various practice settings. 
 
Alum James Elliott (’20), PharmD, of Maryville, Tennessee, matched as a Postgraduate Year 2 (PGY2) Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Resident, a year-long program that helps trainees acquire unique skills in teaching by working with faculty members both in classroom and experiential settings. PGY2 residents are also given an opportunity to participate in a teaching and learning certificate program.

(July 10, 2023) – More than 40 high school students from across the Volunteer State explored East Tennessee State University this summer while participating in one of the region’s signature writing programs.  

Students explored the Archives of Appalachia, the premier repository that documents life in Southern Appalachia. They spent time at the Reece Museum, home to more than 20,000 artifacts, and were given a tour and creative prompts in the Sherrod Library. Observing and writing all along the way, they also received mentorship from seasoned writers.

Cyberbullying: Senior Prospective Teachers’ Coping Knowledge And Strategies, Kürşat Arslan, İnan Aydın

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

This study aimed to determine senior prospective teachers’ coping knowledge and strategies for cyberbullying in terms of demographic variables. The sample consisted of 471 prospective teachers (324 female and 147 male) studying in the 4th grade in Dokuz Eylül University Buca Education Faculty in Izmir in the 2019-2020 academic year. It was a quantitative study using a causal-comparative research design to find out whether prospective teachers’ coping knowledge differed by independent variables. The "Coping with Cyberbullying Scale" developed by Koç et al. (2016) was employed to discover prospective teachers’ coping strategies for cyberbullying. Gamification in education presents a number of benefits that can theoretically facilitate higher engagement and motivation among students when learning complex, technical concepts. As an innovative, high-potential educational tool, many educators and researchers are attempting to implement more effective gamification into undergraduate coursework. Cyber Security Operations (CSO) education is no exception. CSO education traditionally requires comprehension of complex concepts requiring a high level of technical and abstract thinking. By properly applying gamification to complex CSO concepts, engagement in students should see an increase. A qualitative case study focused on understanding what steps are needed to prepare the cybersecurity workforces of 2026-2028 to work with and against emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Conducted through a workshop held in two parts at a cybersecurity education conference, findings came both from a semi-structured interview with a panel of experts as well as small workgroups of professionals answering seven scenario-based questions. Career Pathways launched in August 2017 as the university-wide initiative to provide graduate student professional development. It encompasses both the Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) and the Preparing Future Professionals (PFP) Certificates. The Preparing Future Faculty Certificate was established in 2007, while the Preparing Future Professionals Certificate was launched in 2017 concurrently with Career Pathways. The Career Pathways program prepares graduate students for successful transition into thriving careers. With the PFP Certificate, specifically, the emphasize has been on filling the existing gap in career and professional development for master’s students and doctoral students with career plans outside of academia. U.S. students are facing unprecedented student loan debt levels, roughly $1.75 trillion. The Biden Administration is proposing a debt relief program that will cancel student loan debt up to $20,000 for Pell Granted individuals. However, the current plan has faced substantial legal challenges and political pressure, and as suggested, it could increase the current inflation crisis. However, the size of the inflation effect is subject to debate. On the lower end, student debt relief may add only about 0.2% points to annual inflation. Proponents have also circulated linking student loan repayment to income levels. We propose an alternative approach to …

Now the chair of the ETSU Department of Theatre and Dance, Brewster teaches courses in theater history and theatrical design.

Since its founding in 2019, East Tennessee State University’s Center for Rural Health Research in the College of Public Health has secured more than $12 million in funding from national, state and regional partners to research issues that impact our communities.

To receive this honor, undergraduate students must pass a minimum of 12 credits (excluding audits, incompletes, repeats and pass/fail) with no grade below B- in any course taken, and a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
