Nestled in downtown Greeneville, a community undergoing considerable change aimed at growth in tourism and business, are a pair of vibrant paintings. One stands as the start of a mural trail in the town. Anchored by a dark green background, the work includes a coonskin cap, a nod to Davy Crockett, a silhouette of President Andrew Johnson and a lovely pink-and-purple iris.

(July 28, 2023) Richard F. “Dick” Ellis wasn’t much of a suit-and-tie man. He played semi-pro and coached youth baseball and was a good golfer. He wrote speeches for a Republican congressional candidate in 1960. He loved to fish and camp and could often be heard from his back porch picking bluegrass tunes on his guitar with friends. But besides his wife and children, the love of Ellis’s life was radio.

(July 26, 2023) -- When U.S. Army veteran Jason Ramos began looking into medical schools, he was struck by East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine’s high percentage of military-affiliated students.

“When I applied to and interviewed at Quillen, it became my No. 1 choice,” said Ramos, one of two Purple Heart recipients who are members of Quillen’s Class of 2027. “I did not know a lot about Quillen before I applied but I started researching the school and it quickly moved itself into my No. 1 choice.

The purpose of this conceptual manuscript is to advance a new integrated model: the Narrative Identity (NI), and Liminality Model (NILM). The NILM advances narrative as an intervention tool for Black gendered scholar-athletes (BGSAs) by integrating NI theory (Adler et al., 2017) with the Community Cultural Wealth (CCW) model (Yosso, 2005) for positive outcomes intra-intercollegiate career. The developmental characteristic of sense-making of one’s life via the life story model and life stage phases (McAdams, 1985, 2011) are paramount to BGSAs’ articulation and development during their liminal condition (Sutton, 2017) as athletes in their orientation to sport. Many pundits and fans within college sport have exhausted an inordinate amount of time analyzing the impact of recruiting in intercollegiate athletics amidst recent regulatory changes within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The most recent changes to Division I transfer regulations have introduced a level of uncertainty about the future of college athletics. While these changes may garner significant attention for Division I revenue sport programs, recruiting plays a critical role in across all levels of competition (Nixon, et al., 2021). The college lost one of its most faithful supporters, Debra Wilson, PharmD, who passed away on June 22, 2023, in Johnson City Medical Center. She is the wife of Dr. Guy B. Wilson for 35 years. Together, they have been faithful supporters of the college even before its 2005 founding, serving as mentors and employers of countless ETSU pharmacy graduates.

Debra Wilson graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in 1975 and was a 2001 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School Executive Management Program. Until her retirement in 2021, Wilson worked for 35-years as …

For retired educator Dee Dee Dietrich of Kingsport, inspiring and life-changing words of wisdom came from the late Cora Cox whom she knew from the Presbyterian church they both attended. Ms. Cox was also a well-known educator and teacher of special education.

Existing literature on university brand loyalty (UBL) has less focused on a marketing-oriented perspective, or relationship marketing, and its impact on testing UBL. The aim of this study is to identity the roles and impacts of trust and commitment, which are main factors that create a relationship, in the relationship between university service quality, student satisfaction (SAT), and UBL and discuss its implications for university approaches of the marketing-oriented perspective. A self-report study was conducted with a total sample of 301 undergraduate students from four universities in the USA. The Reece Museum has received $65,000 in grant funding from the Henry Luce Foundation to support “The Sammie L. Nicely Collection: Black Appalachian & African American Art Project.” Named for artist Sammie L. Nicely, this growing collection of post-modern and contemporary art explores Black imagery and themes, representing a variety of media and forms.

The museum received 50 artworks from Nicely’s personal collection in 2021 and since then has been actively collecting additional pieces that support Nicely’s legacy as an artist and educator, advancing cultural awareness and promoting the arts in his native region.
