Elizabeth Childress is an SBIRT (screening, brief intervention and referral for treatment) coordinator in the Addiction Science Center, College of Public Health. She was previously a residential tech/CPRS (computerized patient record system) with Frontier Health. She holds a B.S. degree in psychology from the University of Virginia at Wise.
Erin Lorelle Cook is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Computing after serving as a graduate assistant. She holds an M.S. degree in computing and information sciences from ETSU.

JOHNSON CITY – (Oct. 1, 2020) Four seniors at University School on the East Tennessee State University campus have been named semifinalists for the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
These students will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships totaling more than $30 million that will be offered in spring 2021.
Amisha Agrawal is a member of the Beta Club, Science Club, Scholars Bowl Club, Debate Club, Math Club and the Student Government Association.

De’Kliah Kelly, a sophomore from Chattanooga, is an Honors-in-Discipline in History student with a second major in anthropology. Kelly applied to a number of schools, but the tipping points that led her to choose ETSU were its classical studies minor and its Summer Bridge Program, which provides incoming African American, Hispanic and Native American students a solid foundation before they start their freshman year. Highlights of Community Service
Early in the pandemic, ETSU Health worked to established the region’s first drive-through COVID-19 testing site. This site was instrumental in detecting the first cases of community spread in the area. Currently, ETSU’s Quillen College of Medicine is conducting vital research on COVID-19 using blood samples from local patients who have recovered from the disease.
As the pandemic progressed, ETSU Health became a go-to source of expertise for government and community leaders, our local media, and the public. Representatives from ETSU Health were called upon for interviews about various facets of COVID-19, and the ETSU College …

JOHNSON CITY – The George L. Carter Railroad Museum at East Tennessee State University will hold its Super South themed Heritage Day on the final day of the month, Oct. 31.
Special trains headed to Florida and other vacation destinations displayed advertisements such as “Come to the Sunshine” to lure travelers in the northern areas of New York, Chicago and Detroit where the cold winds of winter would drive thousands of passengers to travel South. JOHNSON CITY – (Oct 1, 2020) The Department of Theatre and Dance at East Tennessee State University will launch its fall 2020 season with a virtual performance of the drama “Appropriate” by Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.

JOHNSON CITY – The East Tennessee State University Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will present a Lunchtime Outdoor Concert on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 12:15 p.m.
The concert will be performed at the concrete pad adjacent to Burleson Hall and the Ballad Health Athletic Center (Mini Dome) and across Sherrod Drive from Brown Hall.

Individual Performance And Taking On Firm-Specific Roles: The Case Of Business School Associate Deans, Jeff Dyer, David Kryscynski, Christopher Law, Shad Morris

The firm-specific human capital dilemma suggests that firms generally want employees to make firm-specific investments but that employees prefer not to make them. We suggest that individual performance may moderate this dilemma such that the dilemma increases as individual performance increases – i.e. firms may prefer high performers in firm-specific roles while high performers may resist these roles more than their lower performing counterparts. We examine our extended firm-specific human capital theory in a context where the classic firm-specific human capital dilemma likely exists: business academia. JOHNSON CITY (Sept. 30, 2020) – Dr. Brian Maxson, a professor of history at East Tennessee State University, has published an article in the internationally respected journal, Bullettino dell’Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medioevo.
Published in Rome, Bullettino features peer-reviewed work on medieval and Renaissance Italy from leading scholars from around the world.
Maxson’s article, “The Letters of Giannozzo Manetti,” constructs the first-ever synthetic treatment of the 45 surviving Italian and Latin letters written to or from Manetti, who was one of the most important intellectuals and statesmen in the early Italian Renaissance.
