The objective of this thesis was to determine whether or not, and by how much, three-dimensional graphs are more accurate and efficient than two- dimensional graphs and tables when presenting alternatives to decision makers. A graphical experiment was designed using a microcomputer. This experiment presented a business scenario to test Air Force Institute of Technology AFIT Professional Continuing Education PCE students. The experiment attempted to determine how well DoD decision makers accurately and efficiently performed elementary data collection tasks using various graphs or tables. The U.S. Open Tennis Championships began its two-week run in New York on Monday. Most of the big names of the past two decades are gone. On the women's side Martina Navratolova is in semi-retirement, Monica Seles has never come back from the knifing of a year and a half ago, and earlier stars like Chris Everet and Billie Jean King are long since departed. On the men's side Jimmy Connors, the long-time mainstay of New York bad-manners-tennis has packed it in, while the great McEnroe-Connors, and McEnroe-Borg rivalries are history while Johnny Mac is now doing TV commentary.

For the Orlando Magic it looked like the biggest development since the signing of the Shaq. To be able to pick up Horace Grant as a free agent without giving up Dennis Scott on waivers, and only losing Scott Skiles and a first round pick in 1996 is truly amazing. John Gabriel, or whoever engineered this deal, seemed on the way to canonization, having performed a certifiable miracle.

It's odd when you leave the United States and go off for a vacation and have very little contact with the sports scene for over three weeks. Baseball, which is a daily obsession nearly disappears from your life, with only an occasional glimpse at scores in the international Herald Tribune or USA Today, and a few highlights hear and there on CNN.

Baseball's All-Star Game is coming up on Tuesday in Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium, one of the old style cookie-cutter ballparks of the early 60's. Although the concept of an All-Star game dates back to 1858 and a game between all-star teams from Brooklyn and New York, it was sixty-one years ago that the first modern all-star game was held, July 6, 1933.

Ethics are in vogue in the 1990s America. Concerns for ethical behavior pervade almost every aspect of our lives and work. This trend has not been unnoticed by the American business community. In fact, many businesses have taken current ethical concerns and tried to put them into action. In some cases, the action has been out of necessity or self-interest, as in the case of companies hurt by an unethical reputation or companies forced to implement ethics programs because of legal indictments. Is there a sinister force stalking Orlando? Are the taxpayers of the city about to be relieved of some of their excess cash? Are the citizens of Orlando ready to turn over $30M to $40M to Al Davis along with a piece of real estate, and another $4M to the DeVos clan? These indeed are worthy charities, and the people of Orlando through their representatives should support these charitable enterprises. Orlando has long been noted for its support of public welfare for the worthy, the oppressed and the downtroden.

This past week Wayne Gretzky became the career scoring leader in the National Hockey League. For fifteen seasons now The Great One has been the dominant figure in hockey and in sport. But to call him The Great One is to grossly understate his significance. Wayne Gretzky holds sixty NHL records and now has added one more to the list, as he has broken Gordie Howe's record in over 600 less games, and eleven fewer seasons than Howe.
