Political Skill And Will As Predictors Of Impression Management Frequency And Style: A Three-Study Investigation, Liam P. Maher, Vickie Coleman Gallagher, Ana Maria Rossi, Gerald R. Ferris
Management Faculty Publications and Presentations
To date, few empirical studies have confirmed the long-accepted notion that politically skilled individuals discriminately and strategically employ or avoid particular political behaviors in the workplace. The purpose of this multi-study investigation is to evaluate political skill and political will as antecedents of configurational impression management strategies. The configurations of impression management tactics found by Bolino and Turnley (2003) are confirmed using hierarchical and K-means cluster analysis, and discriminant analysis is employed to demonstrate the effects of political skill and political will in the prediction of impression management configurations. Consistent with the two-component model of impression management (Leary & Kowalski, …

Marketing Ploy Or Strategic Initiative? An Investigation Of Deceptive Advertising, Pamela A. Richardson-Greenfield
Business Administration Dissertations - Archive
The number of commercial messages that consumers are exposed to on a daily bases is unknown, although some experts estimate it is at least 500 ads per day. Most pundits in the field of advertising agree that it is ubiquitous. For advertisers and marketers, it is critical for them to create advertising messages that break through the clutter and capture the attention of today’s consumers—who are distracted and overwhelmed. One tactic that practitioners employ to capture consumers’ attention in this challenging environment is deceptive advertising, which exaggerates—or even lies—about the attributes of a promoted product. This dissertation explores this topic …
Two Timing Work And Home, The Relationship Of Individual Values With Boundary Permeability Preference And Boundary Permeability Behavior, Faezeh Amirkamali
Two Timing Work And Home, The Relationship Of Individual Values With Boundary Permeability Preference And Boundary Permeability Behavior, Faezeh Amirkamali
Management Dissertations - Archive
Boundary theory (Ashforth et al., 2000, Clark, 2000; Nippert-Eng, 1996) discusses how individuals build, keep, arrange, and cross the boundaries around work and family domains. However, the process through which people manage boundaries in work and home domains is not well-understood. In this study, I focused on boundary permeability as the key factor that explains how boundaries differ on the integration-segmentation continuum and investigated how people manage the boundaries of home and work domains. I proposed that individual values including achievement, hedonism, stimulation, and tradition are directly and indirectly associated with work-to-home and home-to-work permeability preference through work role identity …

Best Practices In A Clinical Development Project Management Office (Pmo) To Achieve A Reference Standard In The Pharmaceutical Industry, Russell Guinto
Dissertations, Masters Theses, Capstones, and Culminating Projects
Medications are developed by the pharmaceutical industry starting with the discovery phase, proceeds to preclinical trials, moves into clinical trials (progressing from Phase I to Phase III), and if the data are positive, may lead to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. Once approved, post-marketing surveillance for safety is required as long as the drug is marketed to consumers. This phase may also include clinical trial Phase IV studies if additional safety testing is required. This process usually takes between ten to fifteen years, with clinical development taking seven to ten years of that time (1). Clinical development can …

Assessing The Impacts Of Crowdsourcing In Logistics And Supply Chain Operations, Ha Hai Ta
Assessing The Impacts Of Crowdsourcing In Logistics And Supply Chain Operations, Ha Hai Ta
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Crowdsourcing models, whereby firms start to delegate supply chain operations activities to a mass of actors in the marketplace, have grown drastically in recent years. 85% of the top global brands have reported to use crowdsourcing in the last ten year with top names such as Procter & Gamble, Unilever, and Nestle. These emergent business models, however, have remained unexplored in extant SCM literature. Drawing on various theoretical underpinnings, this dissertation aims to investigate and develop a holistic understanding of the importance and impacts of crowdsourcing in SCM from multiple perspectives. Three individual studies implementing a range of methodological approaches …

In this paper, the researcher explored the significant effect of multiple demographics, age, gender, marital status, and culture, on a customer’s perception of hotel room prices. The customer’s perception of hotel room rates was assessed by three variations, perceived value, perceived fairness, and willingness to pay. Descriptive statistics, MANOVA, and ANOVA were applied in this study. The results demonstrated that age, gender, and marital status had a significant impact on a customer’s perceived value; age, gender, and culture significantly influenced a customer’s perception of fairness; yet, none of these demographics had a significant impact on a customer’s willingness to pay. …

The Hierarchical Effects Of Employee Choice Of Language: The Role Of Customer Bilingualism And Self-Concept Clarity, Fuad Hasan
Theses and Dissertations
The impact of the choice of language is continuously widening and deepening in different socio-political contexts due to globalization and multiculturalism (Heller, 2010). A nascent stream of research (Zolfagharian, Hasan, & Iyer, 2017) also suggests that, in multicultural service encounters, employee choice of language affects customer perceived interaction quality, which in turn influences a host of outcome constructs germane to service researchers. Therefore, this dissertation focuses on how employee choice of language works in customer mind and shapes their attitude toward service interaction and the service itself. The exploration of this underlying psychological mechanism is expected to provide answers to …
Retaining Valued Human Capital: Investigating The Demand Side Of The Labor Market, Dorothea Roumpi
Retaining Valued Human Capital: Investigating The Demand Side Of The Labor Market, Dorothea Roumpi
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
According to the Resource Based View, human capital resources are the key for sustainable competitive advantage. Human capital, however, is not an organizational possession and the voluntary turnover of valued human capital can erode an organization’s competitive advantage. In particular, subsequent losses in productivity and enabling rival firms to gain competitive advantage are only a few of the consequences of voluntary turnover.
The question of how organizations can influence turnover has triggered numerous conceptual and empirical papers. The majority of such endeavors focus on supply-side mobility constraints, exploring what organizations can do in order to minimize turnover intentions. On the …

Catalyzing Capacity: Absorptive, Adaptive, And Generative Leadership, Elizabeth A. Castillo, Mai P. Trinh
Management Faculty Publications
Purpose
Organizations increasingly operate under volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) conditions. Traditional command-and-control leadership can be ineffective in such chaotic environments. The purpose of this paper is to outline an alternative model to help leaders and organizations navigate effectively through VUCA environments. By developing three fundamental capacities (absorptive, adaptive and generative), leaders can cultivate organizations capable of continuous synchronization with their fitness landscapes. Central tenets of the framework include diversity, slack, learning, humility, reflection in action and abductive logic.
Design/methodology/approach
This framework is designed based on literature insights, conceptual analysis and experts’ judgment. The paper integrates knowledge from a …

Toward A Model Of Strategic Human Capital Management Using The Balanced Scorecard - An Exploratory Case Study, Jeffrey A. Risinger
Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations
The issue of strategic human capital management has been studied and written about extensively over the last 20 years. Much of the focus of this work has addressed the need for internal human resources organizations to transition from transactional, processing organizations to more strategic partner functions addressing the key business needs of the organization. The vast majority of the research addressing this transition has focused on the professional characteristics of senior human resource executives. Whereas the literature presents anecdotal evidence of progress, there also exists consensus support for the idea that very little systemic movement has occurred at the organizational …

An Optimal Airline Revenue Management Seat Pricing Plan Model, Constantine M. Koursaris, James W. Marion Jr.
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
The goal of an airline is to sell tickets at the highest fare possible, thus yielding maximum profit for the stakeholders. As airline seat pricing is divided into different fare classes, a revenue management system is created and maintained to identify opportunity costs where the airline may sell an optimum number of available seats in both discounted fare and full fare classes. Ideally, under perfect conditions, the airline will sell all available seats at full capacity for each leg of a trip. Under non-ideal conditions for the airline, not all available seats may sell at either full fare or discounted …

The Case For Showrooming, Cristina Nistor, Prashanth Nyer
Business Faculty Articles and Research
Showrooming has deeply affected the retail market in the past decade. As consumers became able to easily compare prices on their mobile devices, they started using retail stores to try on and experience products and then they ordered online the lower priced versions they liked best to be delivered directly to their homes. As retailers are trying to adapt to the showrooming challenges and the shift to online purchases, stores are increasingly adopting showrooming as a new selling format. We present examples of successful showrooming and develop a framework for when the new selling format can be expected to be …
