Employee Perceptions Of Fairness In Performance Appraisals And Job Satisfaction, Simon-Davies Amenyenu Nutakor
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Business and management researchers have shown that performance appraisals have continued to remain a standard component of the human resource management (HRM) function and play an integral role in contributing to employee performance and job satisfaction levels. The purpose of this study was to add to what is a paucity of data on perceptions of fairness of employees and examine the employee perceptions of …

Surgical Perioperative Leadership: The Association Between Leadership Style And Team Job Satisfaction, Corey Louise Jamison
Surgical Perioperative Leadership: The Association Between Leadership Style And Team Job Satisfaction, Corey Louise Jamison
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Abstract
The perioperative operating room (OR) is a highly complex, fast-paced environment where countless transactions must be executed with efficiency, speed, and accuracy, and where mistakes of any kind could lead to adverse patient outcome, injury, or death. The surgeon, as leader of the procedure and the OR team, sets the overall climate of the OR and determines how willing (or unwilling) team members are to speak up about potential errors or unsafe patient conditions. This exploration of the relationship between perioperative surgeon leadership style and OR team member job satisfaction fills a gap unaddressed in the literature using items …

Challenges And Opportunities For The Development Of River Logistics As A Sustainable Alternative: A Systematic Review, Ademar Vilarinho, Lara Bartocci Liboni, Jane Siegler
Scholarship and Professional Work - Business
In the last decades there has been great concern about sustainability, especially in companies, where the concept of sustainable development is no longer a trend, but a reality. In the logistics field it should not be any different, since it´s importance to the movement of goods and people. This movement is carried out by four transportation modals, road, air, rail and river. The road transportation is widely used in relation to the others, bringing some problems in large urban centers like traffic jams, climate change, pollution, high CO2 emissions, among others. Thus, it is currently a great challenge to make …

A Post-Brexit Transportation Scenario Analysis For An Agri-Fresh Produce Supply Chain, Amr Mahfouz, Declan Allen, Amr Arisha, Ralf Elbert, Michael Gleser
Conference papers
The ever-increasing demand for fresh and healthy products initiated an urgency for effective planning for Agri-Fresh Produce Supply Chains (AFPSC). However, AFPSC faces many challenges, including product vulnerability to market disruption and limited shelf-life. In case of a no-deal Brexit (i.e., the UK leaving the EU without an agreement), trade between Ireland and the UK will most probably be subjected to customs control. In effect, transportation delays and products deterioration rates will increase. Based on interviews with an Irish AFPSC forwarder, a simulation model was developed to investigate different systems' dynamics and operating rules under different delay patterns on the …

Motivational Factors Of Telework, Arlene J. Nicholas
Faculty and Staff - Articles & Papers
This chapter discusses telework as a motivational option for workers and employers. Telework can be performed as a supplemental or a full-time employment opportunity for local, regional, or global work. Teleworkers must be self-starters, able to work with minimal supervision, and in some cases, rely on technological communications for professional interactions. Teleworkers can enjoy flexibility for work and personal responsibilities while organizations can gain more satisfied and productive employees. An overview of telework's motivational benefits, incentives, and organizational examples for both employees and management are identified.

Dynamic Pricing Of Wireless Internet Based On Usage And Stochastically Changing Capacity, Demet Batur, Jennifer K. Ryan, Zhongyuan Zhao, Mehmet C. Vuran
Dynamic Pricing Of Wireless Internet Based On Usage And Stochastically Changing Capacity, Demet Batur, Jennifer K. Ryan, Zhongyuan Zhao, Mehmet C. Vuran
Department of Supply Chain Management and Analytics: Faculty Publications
(1) Problem Definition: Inspired by new developments in dynamic spectrum access, we study the dynamic pricing of wireless Internet access when demand and capacity (bandwidth) are stochastic. (2) Academic / Practical Relevance: The demand for wireless Internet access has increased enormously. However, the spectrum available to wireless service providers is limited. The industry has thus altered conventional license- based spectrum access policies through unlicensed spectrum operations. The additional spectrum obtained through these operations has stochastic capacity. Thus, the pricing of this service by the service provider has novel challenges. The problem considered in this paper is therefore of high practical …
Consumer Well-Being: A Typology And Examination Of Voluntary Simplicity, Derek Ezell
Consumer Well-Being: A Typology And Examination Of Voluntary Simplicity, Derek Ezell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the search for ways to positively influence their well-being, some consumers are turning to acts of voluntary simplicity. Ranging in magnitude, these acts involve intentional reduction of their consumption and dependency in some form. The examination of such activities on one’s well-being begins with the analysis of formal interviews with tiny home owners, who take a holistic approach to voluntary simplicity, towards a framework of typical tiny home owners and discover the motivating factors for such a lifestyle choice. The second step is analyzing how these motivating factors may lead to less holistic activities surrounding voluntary simplicity and their …
Disrupting Complex Systems With Emerging Technologies: A Study On United States Airport Operations, Emily J. Grone
Disrupting Complex Systems With Emerging Technologies: A Study On United States Airport Operations, Emily J. Grone
Honors Theses and Capstones
The number of United States domestic commercial flight passengers are growing every year, which means the number of people checking-in, dropping off their bags, and going through TSA within airports is equally growing. With the increasing number of passengers and aging airports, there are several areas of pain points within airports where passengers hit a bottleneck due to the current systems that airports have in place. There are three main areas that we are going to reference. First the check-in process, where customers have to get their tickets, input identification information, and check-in for their flight. Second, baggage-drop off, where …
