Islamic Banks' Decomposed Financing And Industrial Output Growth In Pakistan, Sadia Yasmin, Mohammad Ayaz Dr Jun 2023

Islamic Banks' Decomposed Financing And Industrial Output Growth In Pakistan, Sadia Yasmin, Mohammad Ayaz Dr

Business Review

Abstract

Finance is considered as "the lifeblood of an economy" and imperative to a country's growth and stability. However, this perception has been called into two propositions, "More finance more growth "and "Does too much finance harm economic growth”? Existing literature considered only a single indicator i.e. total financing, assuming all financing has the same effect on growth. Furthermore, these studies also overlooked the nonlinear dynamics of Islamic decomposed financing and sectoral growth. As the composition of every economic sector is different, therefore financing can impact differently. This gap is covered in this study by decomposing Islamic financing into Islamic …

Neuromarketing: A Bibliometric Perspective Of The Field, Saniya Fayaz, Raja Rub Nawaz

Business Review

With an increase in studies relating to consumer perceptions, behaviors, cognition and potential markets, researchers are trying to understand the science of neuromarketing and the copious possibilities it puts forth. This serves as a limitation to the consolidative and theoretical implications in the field. The study addresses this theoretical and methodological gap by charting the bibliometric analysis using the citation, cooccurrence, annual productivity, collaborations and sources approaches by analyzing a total of 390 articles extracted …

Self-Centered Vs. Humanity-Centered: The Most Critical Continuum For Choosing Today's Leadership, Hershey H. Friedman, Ngoc Cindy Pham Jun 2023

Self-Centered Vs. Humanity-Centered: The Most Critical Continuum For Choosing Today's Leadership, Hershey H. Friedman, Ngoc Cindy Pham

The Journal of Values-Based Leadership

There is a leadership continuum that ranges from extreme self-interest/narcissism to human-centered leadership. During these chaotic times, corporate boards must hire human-centered CEOs and understand that companies must focus on society's needs, not only profit if capitalism is to thrive. People want to work for companies with a soul and desire to purchase products – and even pay more- from firms that seek to improve the world. Maximizing shareholder value is as outdated as Taylor's theory of scientific management. America becomes stronger if corporate leaders work together to help everyone prosper, not just the top 1%. Everyone wins.

The Evolution Of Leadership During The Covid-19 Pandemic: An Analysis Of The Research, Luca Patrick Thierry Gregston Jun 2023

The Evolution Of Leadership During The Covid-19 Pandemic: An Analysis Of The Research, Luca Patrick Thierry Gregston

University Honors Theses

This paper's research question, "How has the COVID-19 pandemic changed the concept and practice of leadership? In the end much of the empirical evidence for what COVID-19 did or didn't change in leadership practices is still relatively ambiguous. So it is too early to say that "business as usual" is gone for good. And COVID furthered and deepened long term trends, accelerating the great resignation and a dramatic revaluation of intangible assets like reputation, intellectual property and human capital. In response, there is a clear need for a new leadership mindset for the 21st century after the COVID pandemic.

A Window Of Opportunity: Radical Versus Repurposing Innovation Under Conditions Of Environmental Uncertainty And Crisis, Denise R. Dunlap, Roberto S. Santos, Scott F. Latham Jun 2023

A Window Of Opportunity: Radical Versus Repurposing Innovation Under Conditions Of Environmental Uncertainty And Crisis, Denise R. Dunlap, Roberto S. Santos, Scott F. Latham

Management Faculty Publications

In this article, we extend the innovation literature by examining how firms respond to crisis, specifically exogenous crises. At their early onset, crises may represent a window of opportunity for innovation, but it is not equally allocated across firms. We created a unique database of 636 biopharmaceutical firms, from 24 countries and territories, developing innovative treatments during the early outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis to study this phenomenon. We found that firms acted strategically to the shifting external environment and attempted to capitalize on the opportunity by pursuing different but complementary innovation strategies (i.e., radical versus repurposed). The successful outcome …

An Attribution Account Of The Effects Of Leaders’ Gender And Abusive Supervision On Employee Insubordination, Dongwon Yun, Cass Shum

Hospitality Faculty Research

Purpose: Drawing on attribution theory, this research examines how and when abusive supervision affects insubordination, focusing on employees’ attribution bias related to leader gender.

Methodology: Two mixed-method studies were used to test the proposed research framework. Study 1 adopted a 2 (abusive supervision: low vs. high) by 2 (leader gender: male vs. female) by employee gender-leadership bias quasi-experiment. A sample of 173 U.S. F&B employees completed Study 1. In Study 2, 116 hospitality employees responded to two-wave time-lagged surveys. They answered questions on abusive supervision and gender-leadership bias in Survey 1. Two weeks later, they reported negative external attribution (embodied …

Predictors Of The Intention To Participate In Slum Upgrading Projects: Perceptions Of Slum Dwellers In Mauritius, Mohammad Shahidul Hasan Swapan, Saalem Sadeque, Md Sayed Iftekhar, Neshen Sooben

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

A global shift in urban slum improvement programmes is underway to step beyond the conventional approach by practicing a more participatory approach. Previous studies have found that slum upgrading projects are likely to be ineffective and unsustainable without the active participation of slum dwellers. Therefore, it is imperative to identify the pathways to improve or enhance slum dwellers’ participation in slum upgrading projects. Several studies highlight the need to consider socio-psychological attributes of the community. However, empirical evidence of the comparative significance of these attributes in predicting participatory behavioural intention of the slum dwellers has not been previously explored. In …

Faculty Publications

Although entrepreneurship training programs are designed to help necessity entrepreneurs acquire skills and capabilities to take entrepreneurial action, participants in these programs often fail to do so. In partnership with a local government agency, we conducted a randomized field experiment involving 165 entrepreneurs in rural Tanzania where in addition to providing technical-skills training, approximately half of the participants also received ‘growth mindset’ psychological training. Those who received the growth mindset training displayed more entrepreneurial action in their business than those in the control group. Importantly, higher levels of entrepreneurial self efficacy mediated the positive impact on entrepreneurial action displayed by …

Value Co-Creation In Buy Online Pickup In-Store (Bopis), Elizabeth H. Manser Payne, Addison G. Smith

Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology

The purpose of this study is to identify consumer attitudes toward buy online pickup in-store (BOPIS). This study examines how value perceptions change as consumers progress in the online ordering and physical pickup processes within the BOPIS channel. We use a multivariate regression and two separate multiple regression analyses to examine the differential effects of multiple constructs on BOPIS customer satisfaction. As consumers start the process by engaging with the retailer online, perceived usefulness and hedonic value online play a critical role in customer satisfaction. Consumer attitudes change as they pick up their order at the store where the degree …

Mentoring Women Entrepreneurs: Perceived Needs And Benefits, David W. Whitlock, Ashley J. Hampton, Kitty Campbell

Journal of Business & Entrepreneurship

Women entrepreneurs are a rapidly growing demographic. Mentoring is a recurring theme in the literature as a valuable contribution in helping women entrepreneurs succeed. The roles of mentoring as well as the literature of mentoring relationships is presented, followed by a study in which the demand and perceived benefit for mentoring was conducted among women currently engaged or self-identified as aspiring small business owners and entrepreneurs. Women who participated a conference for female entrepreneurs, jointly sponsored by Southeastern Oklahoma State University and the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center, were surveyed. The survey consisted of five sections: the first gathered respondent’s …

Does Internationalisation Give Firms A Second Life? Evidence From Turnaround Attempts Of Declining Firms During Performance Decline, Xin Liang, Rongji Zhou, Jugang Yan, Sibin Wu

Management Faculty Publications

Based upon a sample of 97 US public firms that attempted turnaround from performance decline, we tested the influence of internationalisation on the outcomes of turnaround attempts of firms. We found that internationalised firms had a better chance to recover from performance decline than their domestic counterparts. In addition, the greater the degree of internationalisation, the better chance a firm would recover from performance drop. The chances of recovery do not demonstrate a tendency to decrease even as a firm moves into very high stages of internationalisation.

This study discusses the continuously growing threat to the senior citizens*), later called seniors, who can be isolated from the society if their digital competences and experiences are too poor in today’s digital world. It has been noted that to cope with one’s pursuits seniors need to actively construct and maintain their capabilities in ways that are flexible in the world of the digital devices, in response to the changing vicissitudes of life. Intergenerational Power Gap And R&D Investment: Evidence From China, Yong Zhao, Xi Yang, Daqi Xin, Wencang Zhou, Shuaijun Zhang, Liying Wang

Management Faculty Publications

Family firms face the dual challenge of succession and innovation. Based on the attention-based view, this study empirically investigates the effect of intergenerational power gap on corporate R&D investment, using a sample of Chinese listed family firms. We find that intergenerational power gap has a negative effect on corporate R&D investment, and this negative relationship is amplified in traditional industries and in firms with a low proportion of institutional ownership. Our findings have theoretical and practical implications for R&D investment in the family business succession process.

Career Shock And Voluntary Turnover Intention Among Current Employees In The Public Sector, Charlena Miller Jun 2023

Career Shock And Voluntary Turnover Intention Among Current Employees In The Public Sector, Charlena Miller

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

Attracting and retaining talent was identified as the most critical growth driver for 77% of U.S. executives in 2022, and they plan to increase investment in talent attraction and retention in the coming years (PricewaterhouseCoopers, 2022). The problem in supporting and guiding leaders’ investments in retention through existing turnover research and findings is two-fold. First, past research has primarily used data collection with “leavers” who have already left the organization, sometimes long after the turnover was experienced. Secondly, studies have focused on attitudes, satisfaction levels, employee attributes, and job features, which have shown poor predictive ability for voluntary turnover (Hom …

Leading For Success: Leader-Member Exchange Relationships And Employee Creative Self-Efficacy, Mary Joy Wytsma

University Honors Theses

In today's competitive and ever-evolving business landscape, creativity has become a major focus for managers, leaders, and organizations. However, there are downsides to making creative employees the end-all goal. Instead, managers and leaders should focus on fostering employee creative self-efficacy via high-quality Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) relationships. Within team settings, LMX works in tandem with Team-Member Exchange (TMX), and these relationships allow employees to experience positive physiological state, social persuasion, vicarious experience, and mastery experience, the four drivers of self-efficacy. Employees with high levels of creative self-efficacy experience increased creativity, job satisfaction, and motivation, making them major assets to teams and …
