The premise of this research is that the lack of connecting church financial management principles to a biblical foundation is a primary cause for the lack of clergy and church leaders following effective financial management practices within a church setting. This research explored this hypothesis by teaching two church financial courses; one with heavy emphasis on the biblical foundation for financial and administrative management, and one that is secular in approach. This study will compare the experiences of teaching each course with the premise that the scripturally-based course will have a positive impact on the students' attitude toward church financial …
Parental Choice Of Elementary Schools Within The Cleveland Catholic Diocese And Its Implications For The Financial Policies Of Diocesan Schools, Thomas Edward Garvey
Parental Choice Of Elementary Schools Within The Cleveland Catholic Diocese And Its Implications For The Financial Policies Of Diocesan Schools, Thomas Edward Garvey
Student Scholarship
Catholic schools occupy a unique place within the nation's educational system. Beyond supporting a complete academic curriculum, a Catholic school is a community combining value formation and religious instruction into the education of its students. These schools exist because they offer something of value apparently not found in the public sector. What are these elements that attract parents to these schools? The subject of "school choice" offers many opportunies for study. This research however focuses on select aspects of parental choice of elementary schools within the Cleveland Catholic Diocese, including: What factors are most important to parents in selecting a …

Business Is War: An Investigation Into Metaphor Use In Internet And Non-Internet Ipos, Michael W. Grieves

Theoretical Aspects Of The Japanese Institutional Relations Model And Its Effectiveness For Corporate Governance In The Context Of Globalization, Shigeo Kagami
Student Scholarship
Corporations are organized differently from country to country in terms of their management structures, stakeholder power, and nature of corporate control. For the past decade, policymakers, business leaders, institutional investors, and scholars have debated differences among these structures and their implications for corporate competitiveness. Increased global integration of economic activities has heightened awareness of these cross-country differences in the structures of corporate governance and financial markets. The Keiretsu system, which means the long-term relationships between parent companies and subsidiaries or affiliated firms, or historic linkage between companies, is the "core" of the Japanese corporate governance model. On one hand, Keiretsu …

Sensemaking In A Hospital Strategic Planning Process, George Lehman

The outcome of this case study is a rich description of the nature of sensemaking process in hospital strategic planning retreat that is formulated in such a way as to provide an exemplar for practitioners working with similar concerns in similar settings. The case …

The Symphony Orchestra: The Role Of Cohesive Commitment In The Pursuit Of Persistent Presence, Marguerite Burton Humphrey
Student Scholarship
Orchestras must attract and maintain enthusiastic audiences to survive in today's competitive environment, and many orchestras are working hard to raise public awareness about their products in the hopes of making them more attractive to a broader audience. I have drawn upon the theory of persistent presence to create a framework which outlines five of the most important issues facing orchestras today. I offer a refinement of the model which I believe is a better explanatory vehicle for understanding why some orchestras succeed more than others in terms of expanding their audiences. I have added the element of cohesive commitment, …

A Strategy For Rural Financial Market Reform: Applying The Financial Systems Approach In Ghana, Harlan M. Smith Ii, Abor Yeboah
A Strategy For Rural Financial Market Reform: Applying The Financial Systems Approach In Ghana, Harlan M. Smith Ii, Abor Yeboah
Economics Faculty Research
We construct, using methods advocated in one strand of the Financial Systems Approach literature, a reform-and-renewal program for one of Ghana’s struggling Rural Banks--the Kaaseman Rural Bank. Questionnaire results, local informal financial practices, recent institutional innovations in Ghanaian finance, the experiences of successful “Nontraditional” rural finance institutions in developing countries, and the operating structure of the Rural Bank program indicate that this bank can implement a group-lending scheme that will reduce significantly its transaction costs and those of its customers. We thus demonstrate how the Financial Systems Approach can be employed to promote sustainable rural financial intermediation in a specific …

The Imperative For Energizing The Industrial Transformation In Nigeria., D. Olu Ajakaiye, A. Sesan Ayodele
Bullion
The paper examined the imperative for energizing the industrial transformation. Given the foreign uncompetitive and high cost economic environment, the imperative for energizing the industrial transformation in Nigeria, is to create a conducive environment under which there would be free inflow of foreign investible funds. This may not be possible unless the current industrial environment changes to one whose enabling environment encourages industrial policy instruments that make Nigeria a least cost industrial producer. This suggests something drastic must be done policy-wise to modify the existing high bank-lending rate to make it supportive to the industrialization process. Besides, the depreciation of …

Cross-sectional data were collected via self-administered questionnaires distributed to sales managers, marketing …

An Assessment Of The Links Between International Diversification, Product Diversification, Performance And Risk Within Service Corporations, Sally Ann Sledge
Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration
Services currently account for the dominant share of the workforce in all developed nations and are the fastest growing sector of employment in most developing nations. Services comprise approximately two-thirds of the GDP (gross domestic product) or total domestic output of final goods and services in highly industrialized nations from the OECD (Organization for Cooperation and Development). They make up almost half of the GDP in developing nations. All economic forecasts predict that services will continue to grow and account for the vast majority of future economic expansion throughout the world. Despite these facts, services have been studied infrequently among …
