Mystery Shopping In Singapore’S Retail Sector: A Case Study, Iynee Low
Mystery Shopping In Singapore’S Retail Sector: A Case Study, Iynee Low
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
As mystery shopping becomes an increasingly popular tool to measure service quality, there is a need to ascertain its return of investment for the company. However, there is a paucity of academic research on the impact of mystery shopping results on a company’s sales performance. This professional paper develops a case study on two retail companies in Singapore which adopted and implemented mystery shopping to improve service quality and sales performance. The case study identifies the key service interventions implemented to improve mystery shopping results, and explores the relationship between mystery shopping results and sales performance. The findings in this …
Flight Operational Quality Assurance For University Aviation Operations, Lauren Vala
Flight Operational Quality Assurance For University Aviation Operations, Lauren Vala
Purdue Polytechnic Directed Projects
The ability to use quantitative, objective flight data in order to improve training and operations has dramatically changed in the last decade. By taking advantage of hundreds of sensor collecting digital data on single engine aircraft, the use of Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) programs become more feasible for non-airline operations. With the integration of FOQA data use into university aviation operations, multiple opportunities exist for a complete utilization of this data in a variety of applications.
There are many barriers to overcome during implementation and use of FOQA data in the training environment. The goals and efforts of university …

At The Intersection Of Corporate Governance And Environmental Sustainability, Jayne W. Barnard
At The Intersection Of Corporate Governance And Environmental Sustainability, Jayne W. Barnard
William & Mary Business Law Review
Most boards of public companies have learned to live comfortably with audit committees, nominating committees, and compensation committees. An increasing number of companies are now also creating risk-management committees. This Essay explores the early stages of development of yet another board-level committee: the sustainability committee. The Essay posits several advantages to having a board-level sustainability committee and identifies possible sources of pressure for the creation of more such committees. It also suggests some of the disadvantages of sustainability committees and cautions against cosmetic governance reform. By examining what we know today (and can imagine tomorrow) about sustainability committees, this Essay …

Hotel Room Rate And Availability Parity Across Electronic Distribution Channels, Subashini Selvaraj
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
This is an exploratory research paper looking at the parity of hotel room rates and hotel room availability across electronic distribution channels. The fulfillment of the best rate guarantee of hotels was also analyzed. The study surveyed 40 hotels in Singapore, covering 4 hotel segments, luxury, upscale, mid-market and budget with data collected over 5 dates. The results were analyzed across segments and dates of collection and it was found that neither rate nor room availability parity existed across all the hotels surveyed. In addition, majority of the hotels were unable to fulfill the best rate guarantee. Reasons for why …
Under The Shade Of The Plane Tree: Examining Postures And Interdependent Relationships In Highly Regulated Government-Funded Programs, Marilyn A. Hosea
Under The Shade Of The Plane Tree: Examining Postures And Interdependent Relationships In Highly Regulated Government-Funded Programs, Marilyn A. Hosea
Student Scholarship
As government regulations and penalties for non-compliance increase, highly regulated, government funded programs (HRGFPs) are pressed to meet regulatory compliance demands that are perceived to override agency and consumer needs. This research builds upon classic theoretical studies to reconceptualize how power dependence and resource dependence impact government-agency interactions, relations and program effectiveness. Survey results from a national sample of federally funded Head Start organizations suggest: (1) agency/government co- rather than inter-dependency; (2) compliant rather than innovative agency behavior, and (3) age, auspice and funding levels effects on agency/government relations.
A Method To Improve The Sustainment Of Systems Based On Probability And Consequences, Michael Ashton Gaintner
A Method To Improve The Sustainment Of Systems Based On Probability And Consequences, Michael Ashton Gaintner
Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations
The FROST Method is presented which improves the efficiency of long-term sustainment of hardware systems. The FROST Method makes sustainment and scheduling decisions based on the minimization of the expected value of current and future costs. This differs from current methods which tend to base decisions not on the expected value of costs, but on the expected inventory demand found through projections using data which is often inaccurate.
Distributions are used to account for randomness and inaccuracy in inputs such as failure rates and vendor-claimed dates for end of production. A Monte Carlo technique is then used to convert these …
Towards An Organizational Strategic Vitality Theory: A Study Of A Public Sector Board Of Directors, Keith L. Woodman
Towards An Organizational Strategic Vitality Theory: A Study Of A Public Sector Board Of Directors, Keith L. Woodman
Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations
Boards of directors govern practically all organizations of significant size in the public and private sector. Improving the understanding of how boards function is critical because when boards fail, the results can be devastating. Little is understood about the functioning of boards of directors in the public sector, which accounts for a significant amount of the gross national product of the world's economy. The author observed a public sector board of directors for one year. Using the grounded theory research method to analyze the observations, he generated a theory of organizational strategic vitality that describes how a board of directors …

The Implementation Of Total Quality Management (Tqm) In Oil And Gas Industry In Indonesia., Wakhid Slamet Ciptono
Student Works (2010-2019)
The changing environment in an organization is forcing the organization itself to find a plan of an integrated management framework and an adequate performance measurement. Failure in planning means planning a failure of an organization. Finding out the critical factors of quality management practices (QMP), the mediation of the contextual factors (world-class company practice or WCC, operational excellence practice or OE, company non financial performance or CNFP), and company financial performance or CFP is becoming the way that would facilitate the sustainability of TQM implementation model. This empirical study is aimed to assess how TQM (Total Quality Management)—a holistic management …

Que Delicious "The Best From The Other Side": A Case Study, Angela Chiaromonte
Whittier Scholars Program
This project’s objective is to demonstrate how public transportation is altering the way Que Delicious, a local restaurant, reaches out to new customers. The effects of public transportation on a business are significant reasons explaining why Que Delicious, a business in East Los Angeles, exists within a particular market that was disrupted by the Metro Gold Line which was built in front of the business. This caused the manager to make adjustments in order to propel the business forward. This study includes observations, surveys and interviews with the manger, employees and customers as support. Research also includes study about the …

Token Presence Or Substantive Participation? A Study Of Labor Trustees On Pension Boards, Anil Verma, Johanna Weststar
Token Presence Or Substantive Participation? A Study Of Labor Trustees On Pension Boards, Anil Verma, Johanna Weststar
Management and Organizational Studies Publications
In contrast to their absence from corporate boards in North America, labor representatives do have a seat on many pension boards. Given the lack of research on the role of labor participation in these fora, this study reports findings from a survey of labor trustees. We find that labor trustees make greater contributions to procedure-oriented processes such as information sharing, rule-making and rule interpretation; and, fewer contributions to investment-oriented processes such as investment decisions, fund performance and manager selection. Gender does not seem to matter in explaining participation in board activities. Accountability in terms of a requirement to report back …

Knowledge Accumulation And Dissemination In Mnes: A Practice-Based Framework, Stephen Tallman, Aya S. Chacar
Knowledge Accumulation And Dissemination In Mnes: A Practice-Based Framework, Stephen Tallman, Aya S. Chacar
Management Faculty Publications
Much has been written on the importance of knowledge accumulation and transfer within the network firm but two questions remain. First, what are the specifics of this process, particularly for high tacit content knowledge? Second, how can firms create a sustainable competitive advantage from knowledge acquired from outside the firm? We address the first question by proposing that the mechanisms of external knowledge capture and internal knowledge transfer can best be understood and studied not at the level of networked subsidiary firms, but at the micro-organizational level of Communities of Practice (CoPs). We then offer a model of the dynamics …

Sustainability — a way to prevent energy-related risks — is the buzzword of the last decade. This trend demands radical rethinking on how society lives, consumes and produces. Herein, we focus on electric cars, which is the result of sustainable processes and initiatives in the car industry. The case of Renault illustrates how the firm based its sustainable strategy on its absorptive capacities.

The Strategic Decision-Making Process Of The Board And Its Impact On Decision Outcomes, Mark T. Engle
The Strategic Decision-Making Process Of The Board And Its Impact On Decision Outcomes, Mark T. Engle
Student Scholarship
If association boards of directors are to favorably impact decision outcomes for their organizations, they must make high-quality, consequential decisions. Through a quantitative study, the researchers examined how associations and their boards make high-quality strategic decisions. This paper argues that (a) boards are most fundamentally decision-making bodies, and (b) boards struggle with a challenging paradox when deliberating major issues: vigorously and properly debating differing perspectives on a consequential issue engenders tensions that can easily lead to dysfunctional interactions among decision makers. Decision-making constructs that relate to this paradox are identified and examined for their applicability to the nonprofit context. Gathering …
