Guys And Dolls: The Process Of Becoming Sky Masterson, Peter Colombatto
Guys And Dolls: The Process Of Becoming Sky Masterson, Peter Colombatto
Theses
In order to satisfy the requirements for a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre from Lindenwood University, I was required to perform a leading role in a production. In addition to the rehearsal and performance process, I am required to submit a thesis paper to supplement my experience. My proposal to perform the role of Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls was accepted and the process began in the fall of 2012. Contrary to popular belief, Sky is a complex character that is more than just a typical leading male. Throughout the rehearsal process I was able to explore new …

The Art Of Adaptation, Katharine E. Jordan
The Art Of Adaptation, Katharine E. Jordan
Honors Theses and Capstones
My honors thesis The Art of Adaptation discusses the process of adapting old stories and theatrical pieces for modern audiences through the exploration of various adaptations (theatrical, operatic, dance and film) of Euripides' Medea. It also touches on my own short, modern, adaptation; FURY: A Rock Musical Inspired by Medea. All of this research was important in making the performance aspect of my capstone the best it could be.

Play Selection Process Of Minnesota Catholic High Schools, Amanda Pyfferoen
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
This document is a thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the Master of Arts degree in theatre. It details the parameters and results of a survey distributed to Catholic high school theatre directors in Minnesota. The survey inquired about the process for selecting plays, what themes or lessons the directors refrain from presenting and if there is a need for a list of guidelines that could assist directors in selecting Catholic appropriate theatre pieces to present. There is further development of a proposed guideline and potential rating system that could be implemented into Catholic high school theatre programs.

Paralinguistic And Kinesic Codes Of Performance: An Intercultural Gilgamesh, Patrick Michael Finelli
Paralinguistic And Kinesic Codes Of Performance: An Intercultural Gilgamesh, Patrick Michael Finelli
Theatre and Dance Faculty Publications
This paper examines the directing, acting and rehearsal process in transforming the ancient Babylonian epic Gilgamesh for the stage using performers’ journals as a means of determining the effect of corporeal non-western styles on actors whose prior experience was almost exclusively in naturalistic and text-based theatre. The introduction of theatrical elements from multiple cultures including puppetry and the masks and techniques of Noh drama created a multi-tiered field for intercultural exchange. While Patrice Pavis’s hourglass model for the transfer of theatrical material from a source to a target culture may hold true for productions that use linear modes of transmission, …

Power To The Panza!: Feminist Body Politics In The Panza Monologues (Video Performance Review), Patricia Herrera
Power To The Panza!: Feminist Body Politics In The Panza Monologues (Video Performance Review), Patricia Herrera

Grise relates to the audience with another dose of humor when she attempts to suck in her panza to fit into a pair of jeans. Alas, after all the jumping and tugging to fit into the jeans, Grise faces her biggest challenge: the roll of flesh bulging out from the zipper. Here, handy dandy pliers are brought to the rescue. She uses them to pull up the zipper and then victoriously stuffs the panza into her pants. This triumphant moment reveals women’s obsession with controlling and literally constraining the body so as to succumb to the hourglass figure young women …
Theatre For A New Theater: A Play On Architecture, Alex Coulombe
Theatre For A New Theater: A Play On Architecture, Alex Coulombe
Renée Crown University Honors Thesis Projects - All
The project entails transforming a former military fort into a theater. The scopic parameters native to both fort and theater can provide a field of operation for an architecture that simultaneously mobilizes and exposes the machinery of spectacle. In tandem, amplifying and distorting existing conditions of the fort and repurposing them for a theatrical program can provide catalytic parameters for design that are typically absent when designing from a clean slate.

Pamela On Directing Three The Hard Way: An Exploration Of Theatrical And Communicative Processes., Pamela S. Adolphi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The direction of the play Three the Hard Way by Linda Eisenstein achieved the playwright's intent and the super objective of the play. The application of theatrical and communicative processes facilitated the direction of the desired metacommunicatations associated with the family's dynamics by expressing the struggles and perceptions associated with the family and their relationships. The implementation of the director's prompt book illustrates the use of proxemics in creating picturizations for the stage. In addition, the exploration of the directing process and the progression of the production are examined in daily journal entries. The successes of the directorial approach and …
