Perpetrators and victims played their role while the rest of the world watched the "spectacle" live on television. Perhaps because of its spectacular aspect, the Rwandan genocide has inspired a number of artistic materials. In the last decade we have indeed witnessed the growth of literary and artistic expression in relation to the Rwandan genocide. Survivors and witnesses have told their stories in books and songs. Introduction: Dementia is a condition that modern medicine is ill-equipped to address, and to which art may have much to offer. This project combines reflective and creative processes in a theater collaboration between patients, caregivers, and healthcare students. The goal was to explore the ways in which theater can heal, and to better understand the patient experience of dementia.

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องการแสดงในขบวนแห่เทียนพรรษาจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความเป็นมาและรูปแบบการแสดงในขบวนแห่เทียนพรรษาจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี ผู้วิจัยใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยศึกษาข้อมูลจากเอกสาร งานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้อง การสัมภาษณ์กลุ่มตัวอย่าง และการสังเกตการณ์แบบไม่มีส่วนร่วม ผลการวิจัยพบว่า การแสดงในขบวนแห่เทียนพรรษาจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี ได้มีการพัฒนามาอย่างต่อเนื่อง ตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2444–2562 เป็นระยะเวลา 118 ปี โดยเริ่มจากการรวมตัวของชาวบ้านแห่นำเทียนพรรษาประกอบการร้องรำทำเพลงไปถวายพระสงฆ์ยังวัดพัฒนามาเป็นการแสดงหมู่เป็นชุด ๆ ในลักษณะขบวนเคลื่อนไปตามเส้นทางบนถนน โดยแบ่งการแสดงออกเป็น 2 ช่วง คือ 1. การแสดงในขบวนแห่เทียนพรรษาภาคกลางวัน จัดแสดงในวันเข้าพรรษา สามารถจำแนกรูปแบบการแสดงออกเป็น 3 รูปแบบ ได้แก่ การแสดงพื้นบ้านในลักษณะไม่ตายตัว การแสดงพื้นเมืองอีสาน และการแสดงร่วมสมัย 2. การแสดงในขบวนแห่เทียนพรรษาประกอบแสงเสียงภาคกลางคืน มีที่มาจากการนำรูปแบบขบวนแห่เทียนพรรษาภาคกลางวันมาผสมกับการแสดงแสงเสียง จัดแสดงทั้งหมด 2 วัน คือ คืนวันอาสาฬหบูชา และคืนวันเข้าพรรษา เป็นการแสดงรูปแบบพื้นเมืองอีสานประกอบการแสดงเรื่องราว เนื้อหาของการแสดงจะสัมพันธ์กับหัวข้อหลักของการแสดงที่ถูกกำหนดขึ้น การแสดงทั้ง 2 ช่วงนี้จะสะท้อนถึงประเพณี พิธีกรรม ความเชื่อ ศิลปวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่น วิถีการดำรงชีวิต การละเล่น โบราณวัตถุ และการเทิดพระเกียรติ ผ่านองค์ประกอบของการแสดง งานวิจัยฉบับนี้นอกจากจะเป็นการเผยแพร่ศิลปวัฒนธรรมเชิงพุทธศิลป์อันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของจังหวัดอุบลราชธานีแล้ว ยังเป็นประโยชน์ทางด้านการสร้างสรรค์การแสดง และด้านการศึกษาทั้งในสถาบันการศึกษาและผู้ที่ศึกษาเชิงวิชาชีพในประเทศไทยต่อไป

This article surveys how contemporary Broadway musicals cast fat women and focuses on Hairspray. The use of fat suits and contractual weight clauses figure into the discussion of fat stigma and casting practices. Seemingly body-positive musicals both celebrate and undermine the identities staged in them.

Informed Hearing Loss Prevention For Theatre Uni, Mallory Park

This study explores the opinions and behaviors related to hearing loss and hearing loss prevention in the demographic of theatre workers at Theatre UNI. Data was collected through a survey dispersed in a department-wide email and by measuring sound level in the scene shop and the costume studio. Survey responses from 11 participants indicated that theatre workers at Theatre UNI may be at risk for noise-induced hearing loss and that further education may aid in prevention of hearing damage.

In the summer of 2018, an emerging theatre company produced Stop Kiss by Diana Son in Waterloo, Iowa, a mid-size industrial town adjacent to the city of Cedar Falls, which hosts a small public university. In Stop Kiss, the two lead characters are women fall romantically for each other, so that in performing their characters the actors embody same-sex sexuality. This paper will explore how the actors playing these two characters engaged with this embodiment, and how doing so affected them.

Research has shown that more than 45% of American companies are opting to integrate personality tests in their recruitment processes. Given this surge in personality testing, this thesis examines whether personality testing is a valid predictor of job-fit and performance in the context of personnel selection. A large proportion of this paper is focused upon the Big-Five factor model, its limitations, and derivative tests of the model. Clinical Practice in Athletic Training

Healthy athletes commonly engage in pre-participation warm-up strategies designed to physiologically and mechanically prepare the body for training and competition. Alterations in rotational range of motion (ROM) of the dominant shoulder in overhead athletes, resulting in total rotation ROM loss, correlate with performance deficit, injury risk, and lost training time. Researchers have suggested that interventions using Total Motion Release® (TMR®) increase shoulder ROM more effectively than traditional warm-up methods. Borrowing from Cixous’ ‘State of Drawingness’ (1993), this article proposes a ‘State of Dancingness’ as method of inhabiting the practice of writing as dancing. Understanding the dancing body as a place of virtuosic attention, the practice of writing is activated as a ‘continuation’ of dancing; neither as creative response or description but as frame for housing (staging) emergent content. The work proposes that the dancer begin on the page from the vantage and experience of entering the stage as solo improvising performer. Professional dance careers require years of intensive training. Stress experienced during training must be balanced with adequate recovery to prevent overtraining and burnout. Little is known, however, about how dancers achieve recovery–stress balance. This study examined dancers’ recollection of stress and recovery during their vocational dance training to identify potential stressors and recovery behaviors in vocational dance training. Twelve current and ex-professional ballet (n=4) and contemporary dancers (n=8) participated in the study. Four general dimensions, based on the extant overtraining literature in athletes, were identified: dance culture, intrapersonal, interpersonal, and situational factors. This project asked how can one make use of an econometric tool, specifically the regression model, as a source for choreography. Through integrating my research on dance choreography and econometrics, I created a dance piece that demonstrates the numerical relationships of a realized regression equation. The dance was separated into three sections, with each examining an econometric concept. Taking the primary question at hand one step further, this project also explored how this approach to choreography can be generalized so that almost any regression model can be a choreographic tool. Achieving elite level performance in dance requires intensive training and physical demands that may put dancers at risk of underrecovery and overtraining if not balanced with adequate recovery. Dancers have been shown to be susceptible to overtraining and burnout (Koutedakis, 2000), however, little is known about how dancers balance training and non-training stress with recovery to counteract negative training outcomes. This thesis investigated psychological recovery among vocational dance students, using a mixed-method study design to examine dancer experiences of stress and recovery, and the effectiveness of a mindfulness intervention in enhancing psychological recovery in vocational dance training. วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาวิวัฒนาการละครในตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน 2) ศึกษารูปแบบการแสดงละครใน เรื่อง อิเหนา ยุคกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ โดยใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ซึ่งผู้วิจัยศึกษาข้อมูลจากเอกสารที่เกี่ยวข้อง สื่อวีดิทัศน์ การสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ การสังเกตวิธีการแสดงละครใน โดยมีขอบเขตของการศึกษา คือ 1) ศึกษาประวัติความเป็นมาและวิวัฒนาการที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการแสดงละครในตั้งแต่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาจนถึงกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ 2) ศึกษาลักษณะการแสดงละครในแบบหลวงเรื่องอิเหนา ซึ่งถ่ายทอดจากอดีตจนถึงปี พ.ศ. 2559 ที่ปรากฏในการแสดงของสถาบันบัณฑิตพัฒนศิลป์และกรมศิลปากร กระทรวงวัฒนธรรม ผลการวิจัยพบว่า คำเรียก“ละครใน"ปรากฏหลักฐานในสมัยกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ แต่เดิมจะเรียกชื่อต่างกันไป ทั้งคำว่า ละครในบริรักษ์จักรี, ละครหลวง, ละครผู้หญิง, ละครข้างใน แต่มีความหมายเดียวกัน คือ หมายถึงละครผู้หญิงที่ใช้นางในราชสำนักมาฝึกหัดเป็นผู้แสดงและอยู่ในความอุปถัมภ์ของพระมหากษัตริย์ หลักฐานที่เกี่ยวกับละครในพบครั้งแรกในสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาจากบุณโณวาทคำฉันท์ โดยกล่าวถึงการแสดงละครในเรื่องอนิรุทธและอิเหนาซึ่งเป็นละครในบริรักษจักรี แปลว่าละครของพระมหากษัตริย์ เมื่อกรุงศรีอยุธยาต้องเสียแก่พม่าในปี พ.ศ.2310 ส่งผลให้ละครของหลวงต้องแพร่กระจายไปที่ต่างๆ บางส่วนได้ถูกกวาดต้อนไปยังประเทศพม่าจนเกิดรูปแบบละครโยเดีย ครั้นสมัยกรุงธนบุรีละครในจะเรียกว่าละครผู้หญิงซึ่งมีทั้งของหลวงและของเจ้านครฯ โดยได้รับพระบรมราชานุญาตจากสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสิน สมัยกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์รูปแบบละครในมีรูปแบบเปลี่ยนแปลงไปหลายสิ่งที่เห็นได้ชัดคือในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 1 อันเป็นยุคฟื้นฟูบ้านเมืองรวมไปถึงงานศิลปะอย่างละครใน ได้มีการรวบรวมจัดทำ“ตำรารำ"ที่มีมาแต่ครั้งกรุงศรีอยุธยาเพื่อให้เป็นสมบัติชาติ ครั้นถึงรัชกาลที่ 2 ได้มีการพระราชนิพนธ์บทละครขึ้นใหม่เพื่อใช้สำหรับเล่นละครใน โดยทำการซ้อมและปรับปรุงกระบวนท่ารำให้สอดคล้องกลมกลืน ตัวละครหลวงในยุคนี้ได้เป็นครูละครให้คณะต่างๆในชั้นหลัง ส่งผลให้รูปแบบละครในยุคนี้ได้เป็นแบบอย่างละครรำในระยะต่อมา ต่อมาใน สมัยรัชกาลที่ 4 ได้มีการยกเลิกข้อห้ามเกี่ยวกับละครใน ทำให้ผู้มีบรรดาศักดิ์พากันมีละครตามแบบอย่างของหลวง จะเห็นได้ว่า สิ่งสำคัญที่ส่งผลต่อวิวัฒนาการละครใน คือ นโยบายและรสนิยมของพระมหากษัตริย์หรือผู้นำในแต่ละยุค รวมทั้งป๎จจัยภายนอกทั้งอิทธิพลต่างชาติ สภาพเศรษฐกิจและสังคมในแต่ละยุคสมัย รูปแบบของละครในแบบดั้งเดิมนับเป็นรากฐานที่พัฒนาและก่อให้เกิดปริวรรตไปสู่รูปแบบการแสดงละครในยุคต่อมาอย่างละครดึกดำบรรพ์ อีกทั้งยังต่อยอดไปถึงการสร้างสรรค์งานนาฏยจารีตต่างๆดังเช่นในป๎จจุบันอีกด้วย

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์ในการศึกษาดังนี้ 1) เพื่อศึกษาพัฒนาการการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมในประเทศไทย 2) เพื่อศึกษาพระอัจฉริยภาพด้านการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว โดยพิจารณาการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมทั้งที่เป็นบทวิจารณ์และการสร้างสรรค์นาฏกรรมในฐานะการวิจารณ์ ภายใต้กรอบแนวคิดประวัติศาสตร์นิยมใหม่ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า พัฒนาการการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมในประเทศไทยในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์พบว่า เดิมการวิจารณ์ของไทยปรากฏในการสร้างสรรค์นาฏกรรมเพื่อวิพากษ์วิจารณ์บุคคลและปรากฏการณ์ทางสังคมหรือผลงานสร้างสรรค์ของผู้อื่น มักใช้ลีลายั่วล้อ ต่อมาการปฏิรูปการศึกษาของไทยทำให้คนไทยรู้จักการวิจารณ์ในวัฒนธรรมลายลักษณ์โดยได้รับอิทธิพลจากตะวันตกทำให้เกิดการเขียนบทวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมขึ้น เริ่มจากการสื่อระหว่างบุคคลจนพัฒนาไปสู่การเขียนบทวิจารณ์ในสื่อสาธารณะ ในระยะต้นปรากฏในสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์เป็นหลักและค่อยๆ เสื่อมความนิยมลง ปัจจุบันการเขียนบทวิจารณ์ปรากฏในสื่อใหม่มากขึ้น นอกจากนั้นลักษณะการวิจารณ์ยังปรากฏในการมอบรางวัล การประกวดแข่งขัน การกำหนดกฎเกณฑ์ในหลักสูตรและการประเมินคุณวุฒิของบุคลาการในวงการศึกษา ในด้านพระอัจริยภาพด้านการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ปรากฏ 2 สถานะ ได้แก่ 1) บทบาทผู้เขียนบทวิจารณ์ 2) บทบาทผู้สร้างสรรค์ผลงานในฐานะการวิจารณ์ พระราชวิจารณ์ของพระองค์อาจเป็นต้นเค้าของการเขียนบทวิจารณ์ในสื่อสาธารณะ มีส่วนช่วยให้เกิดความรู้ความเข้าใจนาฏกรรมทั้งของไทยและของเทศแก่พสกนิกร พระองค์ทรงเป็นผู้หนึ่งที่ริเริ่มการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานแนวใหม่ในลักษณะผสมผสานระหว่างนาฏกรรมแนวเดิมและนาฏกรรมแบบตะวันตก ทรงใช้ผลงานของพระองค์ในการวิพากษ์บุคคล เหตุการณ์สำคัญ มักใช้ลีลายั่วล้อเสียดสีเพื่อสร้างความขบขันและลดความรุนแรงในการวิจารณ์ นับเป็นความพยายามของชนชั้นนำสยามในยุคนั้นที่ประสงค์จะสร้างมาตรฐานใหม่แก่วงการนาฏกรรมไทยที่เน้นการนำเสนอสาระควบคู่กับความบันเทิง บทบาทการวิจารณ์นาฏกรรมของพระองค์นับเป็นช่วงหัวเลี้ยวหัวต่อที่มีความสำคัญยิ่งต่อทิศทางการสร้างและการเสพนาฏกรรมไทยในระยะต่อมา
