Fingerpaint: A Drama In Two Acts, Audrey A. Moore

This thesis is a creative original work taking the form on a two-act drama entitled Fingerpaint. It follows the story of a twenty-two year old artist named Sandy and her older brother, John, who want to paint a city mural as a memorial for their uncle. The primary theme revolves around the idea of finding beauty in tension. This theme is developed as Sandy, an idealist, is forced to deal with difficult situations that will ultimately change the way she approaches life and art.

"You're on Earth. There's no cure for that," says the character Hamm, in Samuel Beckett's Endgame. The stage offers a unique lens through which to explore the reality of human existence on Earth, sharing the behaviors of characters in imagined circumstances with audiences. My honors thesis production, GAIA: an eco-theatre project explores human relationships with the environment and comes out of research conducted during the 2014 Butler Summer Institute. On March 4, 2015, Metamorphoses opened its doors to the public. The cast, crew, and production staff had been working on this masterpiece for many months, but the night was finally here and the production was finished. The end product was a transformative work of art that took the audience through many of the old Greek myths through song and dance and words.

In order to help accomplish this, the lighting and projection elements were designed to accent each story and give the audience a clear sense of place, time of day, mood, and other aspects of the world. This …

2014-2015 Discover the Heartbeat of Creative Life

Heidi Latsky is a choreographer who “beautifully resets preconceptions about bodies and movement” (The New Yorker). Ideas about beauty are often shaped by convention, but Latsky defies convention by exposing the gorgeous virtuosity of unconventional dancers’ bodies in motion in an edgy, intimate way. With Triptych, comprised of two live works and a new dance created especially for film, she celebrates the essence of individual dancers, exults in the pure joy of movement in a piece created for herself, as an “older dancer” at 56, dancing in juxtaposition with five younger dancers, and reveals the hidden beauty of all bodies.

This thesis describes the research and production processes of the set design for the play, Love’s Labor’s Lost by William Shakespeare, performed in the Howell Memorial Theatre, from November 13^th through November 23^rd at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska. Love’s Labor’s Lost was directed by Melora Kordos. David Tousley acted as the production’s set designer, Sarah Resch designed the lighting, Katie Davis designed the costumes, Lucas Dunwoody designed the sound, Vicki Halverson acted as the props mistress, and Greg Rishoi was the acting technical director.

This thesis is a reflection on the research and production process of the lighting design of the play Unity (1918) by Kevin Kerr, performed in the Studio Theatre at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film from October 9 to 11 and October 14 to 19, 2014. The play was directed by Ian Borden with scenic design by Vicki Halverson, costume design by Megan Cudd, lighting design by Steven J. Miller and technical direction provided by A.J. Lowery. This thesis documents the lighting design process including initial meetings, research, conceptualization, paperwork, technical rehearsals, critical response, and production photos.

Into the Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Griimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from "Little Red Riding Hood,", "Jack and the Beanstalk", "Rapunzel", and "Cinderella", as well as several others. How can classical ballet adapt to a world that is in an ever more rapid state of flux? By uncovering an example of the kind of interdisciplinary artistic collaboration that contributed to the thriving artistic environment of the early twentieth century, a model for artistic success emerges. By examining modernism and Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in relation to Christopher Wheeldon’s groundbreaking 2011 ballet Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, a correlation between the success of the Ballets Russes and the success of Wheeldon is exposed.
