This article is written in the interests of opening up dialogue and generating debate about the relationship between dance literacy and the role of creativity in dance education. Though the Earth Give Way is a reimagined telling of the story of King Hezikiah and his resistance of the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem in 701 B.C.. The story is found in the Old Testament, in 2 Kings 18-20 and Psalm 46.

Initially inspired by Raymond Carver’s short story Cathedral, in which a sightful man’s hand is guided by a blind man’s heart in drawing a cathedral, Fold Here unfolds in an implausible universe filled with empty cardboard boxes as the basic units of all existing matter. In pursuit of the boxes’ elusive essence, the performers explore the physical, sensorial, and spiritual properties of human beings–as parallel contents and containers of existence.

The results thus far of being accepted for the 1996-1997 ORCA scholarship are (1) my first motion picture screenplay, twenty-seven pages in length, (2) various story boarded, or handdrawn and illustrated scenes and sequences from the screenplay, and (3) much gained wisdom and experience in other film making production areas of casting, directing, producing, set design, editing, photography and location scouting and management.
