El presente artículo analiza la forma en que la voz del subalterno es silenciada en las novelas Menino de Engenho y Bangüê, ambas del escritor brasileño José Lins do Rego. De las muchas adaptaciones cinematográficas y televisivas de la novela de Cervantes nos vamos a centrar en aquellas que recogen la interpretación "trágica" del personaje, al que presentan como una figura crística que quiere llevar a un mundo dominado por la maldad y el egoísmo un mensaje de amor y justicia. Pese a su origen esencialmente eslavo (ruso), este "Quijote trágico" ha tenido una extraordinaria aceptación en el cine internacional y ha contribuido a darle una imagen popular que en gran medida desvirtúa el concepto original cervantino.

The study investigated a local pedagogical issue— Independent Enquiry Study (IES)—a specific form of social inquiry in the core subject Liberal Studies (LS) in Hong Kong senior secondary schools. It took a designated IES classroom as the point of intervention and as the basis for exploring transformed pedagogical practices in Hong Kong secondary school education. Each year, approximately 835,000 men and 1.3 million women are victims of intimate partner violence (IPV; American Bar Association, n.d). Although the prevalence of same-sex intimate partner violence (IPV) is approximately the same as IPV in heterosexual couples (Alexander, 2002), fewer studies have examined perceptions of IPV in same-sex couples or of IPV perpetrated against heterosexual men compared to heterosexual women. In the current study, Just World Theory (Lerner & Miller, 1978) is used as a framework for understanding factors associated with perceptions of heterosexual and same-sex IPV, including sexual prejudice and gender self-esteem. Examining The Affects Of Four Mental Images On Student Dancers' Jumping Height, Teresa Heiland

Dance Faculty Works

A quasi-experimental design was used to assess effects of Franklin Method images on dancers’ jump height. Thirteen dancers applied four image interventions while performing first position jumps for vertical height analysis. Mean heights and within-trial jump degradation and variability were examined. A repeated-measures mixed model analysis with covariates was used to assess whether jump heights differed significantly from baseline. Two of the four images showed significant increases in jump height above baseline. A linear time effect was also found over the course of the study. Anecdotal self-reports revealed that there appeared to be no correlation between jump height and imagery …

Dance/movement therapy (DMT) techniques—particularly choreography and performance techniques—have not been well-researched with Deaf adults who have mental illness. This study investigated the use of DMT, choreography, and performance techniques with Deaf adults with severe and chronic mental illness through participatory artistic inquiry. Primary research questions addressed pragmatic matters of participatory artistic inquiry: What aesthetic choices will the co-researchers make in the dance-making process? How does the researcher provide structure and incorporate her experience as a choreographer without overshadowing the contributions of the co-researchers? Broader philosophical research questions included: How do choreography and performance techniques impact this population’s well-being? How does …

This story is an excerpt from a longer interview that was collected as part of the Launching through the Surf: The Dory Fleet of Pacific City project. In this story, Kristina Hogevoll briefly describes her family’s first fishing company in Pacific City and then describes, in great detail, the work involved in their second, larger company, the Kiwanda. Marty Knopf describes how the Kiwanda Fish Company looked out for all the fishermen and how that contributed to the special Pacific City dory community.
