La (Des) Pluralización Del Verbo Haber Existencial En El Español Salvadoreño: ¿Un Cambio En Progreso?, Alexander Quintanilla

This study analyzes the pluralization of the verb haber in Salvadoran Spanish. Spanish uses the verb haber ‘to have’ for existential sentences. According to traditional grammars, existential sentences with haber are impersonal, that is, they are conjugated only in the third-person singular. However, it is common in most Spanish varieties to conjugate haber in the plural when the nominal phrase is plural. Recent studies have suggested that the pluralization of haber is an innovation in modern Spanish and that it is advancing from lower to higher classes. In this work I discuss the current situation in the Spanish of El Salvador of the voiceless fricative palatal sound. The presence of this sound in Pipil, an orginal language already spoken in El Salvador before the Spaniards arrived, favored its maintenance in Salvadoran Spanish. Since Pipil is a language in extinction, some authors believe that this sound is also disappearing in Salvadoran Spanish. However, Pipil is not the only language with this sound that influences Salvadoran Spanish. El presente trabajo propone proveer un modelo metodológico mixto para el desarrollo e implementación de un Módulo de Enseñanza para el español como lengua extranjera en la modalidad presencial. El objetivo principal es evidenciar cómo los principios metodológicos provenientes de los enfoques didácticos ("enfoque por tareas" y "aprendizaje cooperativo") pueden ser aplicados de manera efectiva en el diseño de contextos presenciales. There has been a growing interest in the examination of the steady state of simultaneous bilinguals. An understanding of what leads to the possible weaknesses in the grammar of early bilinguals can contribute to our understanding of the possible causes of the apparent characteristic ‘failures’ in second language acquisition (Montrul 2008). Spanish has a gender feature for nouns (Carroll 1989) and gender agreement for determiners and adjectives. Este trabajo2 mostrará que la variabilidad en el desempeño entre los hablantes de una L1 y una L2 no siempre resulta ser un problema debido a un déficit sintáctico (Hawkins y Chan 1997; Hawkins y Liszka 2003; Tsimpli 2003; Hawkins y Franceschina 2004; y otros más) y que la adquisición completa de esta última no depende de los rasgos que están disponibles en la L1. Recent research suggests that, when the two languages spoken by bilinguals share certain features, but one of the languages favors the use of a particular structure, possibly due to pragmatic reasons, the two languages may converge in the relevant domain (Hulk and Müller 2000; Müller and Hulk 2001; Sánchez 2003; Sánchez, 2004; Toribio 2001). This in turn may lead to convergence between the two languages in a society where most of the speakers are bilingual, assuming bilinguals and second language learners are often the agents of language change (Winford, 2003).
