Carlos Saura’s El Sur was aired on Spanish television in 1993 as part of a series of six programmes based on selected short stories by Jorge Luis Borges. The entire set of these hour-long productions has recently been released on video by the Films for the Humanities, thereby granting easy availability to what thus far has been one of Saura’s most difficult to acquire, and consequently least known, films. Described in its opening credits as an ‘adaptación libre’, Saura’s El Sur differs considerably from Borges’ short story of the same name. This essay focuses on the construction of urban space through Gabriel Aresti's poetry during Franco's dictatorship. On the one hand, Aresti emphasizes the social injustices in the city between the new Basque bourgeoisie and the Castilian and rural Basque immigrants. On the other hand, the poet wants to retrieve Basque language and tradition as a reaction to a progressive cultural loss due to the presence of 'españolidad' and to urban changes. Therefore, this conflict generates the subjective and specific experience of a space that needs to negotiate cultural and social heterogeneity while articulating 'Basquism' and integrating the 'other'.

El APRENDIZAJE BASADO EN proyectos es un modelo educativo que toma como base una actividad en grupo, relacionada con el mundo real y para la que se usan medios tecnológicos reales, que se completa durante un periodo de tiempo determinado de antemano y que tiene como resultado final un producto, presentación o actuación. Se diferencia de las actividades de clase tradicionales en que no es corta, ni se realiza de manera aislada por un estudiante que sólo hace lo que le dice el profesor.

The purpose of this article is to describe and analyze the language policies designed and implemented since the early nineties by Spanish government agencies in order to promote Spanish as a valuable international language. In particular, we focus on its promotion in Brazil and on the strategies used to legitimize not only the presence of the language in various domains (e.g. the educational system) but also the active participation of Spanish institutions in its spread. For an adult, learning a second language can be a complex and demanding task. Differences between one’s native language and the target language can contribute to the complexity of the task. One significant way in which languages can differ is the system of gender. The difference between gender in English and Spanish provides a challenge for adult native English speakers learning Spanish as a second language. Introducción: ¿Cómo contar el trauma?

La historia, con frecuencia, se recobra de sus traumas trasponiéndose en la literatura: determina el lugar de enunciación de escritores y críticos, y prescribe su pertenencia a tendencias estéticas y generaciones. Por eso, analizar el Bildugnsroman que aborda la experiencia de la última dictadura militar argentina (1976-1983), profundiza la comprensión de la relación entre realidad política y literatura, y describe con mayor precisión la manera en que la narrativa argentina de los noventa trató la desaparición, la tortura y la pérdida de ideales.
