La investigación desarrollada en este artículo tiene por objeto explorar las conexiones que mantienen las funciones de las citas con el concepto de la voz para conocer cómo estas contribuyen a la construcción de la identidad del escritor en el texto. Con este fin, se analizan las funciones retóricas de las citas de 16 memorias de máster escritas en español por 8 posgraduados españoles y 8 filipinos. Este trabajo pretende insertar en el contexto humanista de su tiempo la escritura poética de Isabel Rebeca Correa, erudita portuguesa del siglo XVII que residió en Ámsterdam. Aunque no se conserva buena parte de su obra, podemos conocer el estilo de la autora a través de su traducción al español de El pastor Fido, tragicomedia pastoril de Guarini. Se incluye por primera vez una transcripción completa y modernizada de los fragmentos de dicha versión que, según la traductora, proceden de su propia inventiva. This essay introduces the special section “The Idea of Hispanophone Caribbean Studies” with a focus on hispanopone Caribbean literature and how it is situated in the region and in the diaspora. The essay suggests the need for creating spaces of dialogue and communication, translation and multilingualism, that are interdisciplinary and intertextual, if we are to deepen our critical frames of reference and complicate and invigorate new creative and analytic discourses.

The translations of French historian and politique Pierre Matthieu fostered the circulation of ideas on the best practices of government and stimulated the introduction of political theories such as reason of state, political prudence and sovereignty at a moment when all Europe struggled to reconcile the interests of state and religion. Matthieu´s Remarques d’Estat et d’histoire sur la vie et les services de Monsieur de Villeroi (1618) were translated in 1624 by Pedro van der Hammen, and adapted to the particular Spanish context. Estamos ante una obra minimalista cuya exploración intelectual de la memoria, la dislocación autobiográfica y los registros simbólicos que interrogan aspectos urgentes del presente histórico mexicano han posicionado a Miklos como uno de los más singulares autores de la narrativa mexicana reciente. This article discusses a language-ideological debate surrounding Galician between two Spanish intellectuals – one Andalusian, Juan Valera, and one Galician, Manuel Murguía – who clashed on the desirability of the literary cultivation of the language. This encounter is framed as a language ideological debate and interpreted in the context of Spain’s late nineteenth-century politics of regional and national identity.

For the Archpriest of Hita, covetousness is the root of all evil. Although from Hieronymus’ translation of the Bible onwards the notions of the sins of covetousness and avarice became interchangeable, this paper highlights both sins in the context of the commercial and urban development reached by the late medieval society at a moment when the sharp desire for worldly possessions acquired an unprecedented visibility. Este estudio ofrece una aproximación teórica a la metáfora arbórea empleada por Elena Quiroga en La sangre, obra publicada en 1952. La autora santanderina, casi desconocida en el panorama literario de la posguerra española, sitúa a un castaño como narrador y testigo principal de los hechos de la novela. La figura del árbol-narrador se abre a diversas cuestiones en torno a la preservación y reconstrucción de la memoria histórica, así como de la posición marginal de la intelectualidad femenina durante las primeras décadas del franquismo.

The aim of this paper is to compare the rhetorical functions gathered from the citations of (14) fourteen master´s theses written by seven Spanish and seven Philippine authors. A typology of nine categories was used in order to identify the cultural rhetorical differences that exist in the use of citation from the contrast between contrasting this element in the Philippine and Spanish cultures. The methodology used is textual analysis of the linguistic context of these citations and its subsequent classification within these nine categories.
