This paper attempts to discover the existence, if any, of religious influences in Louisiana elections since 1924. Several reasons bear upon both the selection of the state and the period. The author chose the State of Louisiana because it occupies a rather peculiar place in American politics. Typically a Southern state, Louisiana lacks, at least on the surface, a two-party system. Hence the complication of conflict between party loyalty and religious affiliation is removed. Louisiana is typical or the states of the South in that it contains a considerable Roman Catholic population. Indeed, the National Council of Churches has listed …

From these words of Jesus, terms and phrases were chosen that had, or appeared to have allusions to the world of the first century after Christ. It cannot be denied that the Lutheran Reformation exerted a tremendous influence in England. Was this merely apolitical influence? Or did Lutheran theology penetrate deeply into the English system at that time?

Although Origen's theology in the narrow, sense can hardly be called a synthesis of Christian dogma in the third century, yet an appreciation of him as a systematician requires an acquaintance with the theology of his predecessors. De Principiis did not evolve spontaneously from the mind of this great Alexandrian, but consciously or unconsciously drew upon the speculations and the formulations of the Fathers. For this reason a section has been included giving in very brief detail the theological atmosphere of the century preceding Origen, ending with his great North African contemporary, Tertullian.

The Thomistic synthesis, with its stress on reason and how reason could prove the existence of God, was thought by many, including St. Bonaventura (1221-1274), to press too far the rational side of religion and thus to detract from the other side, which emphasizes the free g~it of faith, intuitive insight, and mystical experience.
