I started having second thoughts about giving a paper on the subject of working with classified documents almost as soon as I agreed to do it. In the first place, I'm not editing classified documents-or any kind of documents, for that matter-now. I used to, though: for over a quarter of a century I edited the papers of Dwight David Eisenhower at Johns Hopkins University. My duties there included handling all matters of classification and declassification, as well as physical, personnel, and information security.

The aim of this study was to identify connections between culture, in particular cultural awareness, and second language acquisition (SLA). A number of socio-cultural models of SLA were utilized in the design of the research. Most significantly was the Socio-Education Model (Gardner and MacIntyre, 1993a), which emphasizes the crucial, although indirect, role context and culturally influenced factors play in SLA. A questionnaire was administered to 100 undergraduate English students at a Thai university. Providing written feedback is often burdensome and time-consuming for teachers, especially in large classes. This quasi-experimental study was conducted to test an alternative to giving teacher feedback in large EFL classes, i.e. employing teacher intervention during the writing process. The subjects were undergraduates taking a writing course at a Thai university. Two intact groups were employed, one assigned to be a control group and the other an experimental group. The control group finished their draft, submitted it to the teacher, and received individual written feedback while in the experimental group the teacher intervened in the writing process by giving explanations …

This article presents a contrastive analysis of adverbs in English and Thai, focusing on how morphological and syntactic features of adverbs in Thai may interfere Thai learners in using derivational adverbs in the English language. It postulates that due to different derivational processes of adverbs in the two languages. L1 interference may be found with regards to forms, functions, and positions, and a combination of these in particular. In terms of derivation, adverbs in English are morphologically devided, whereas those in Thai are lexemically derived. This article explores the challenges of espousing a critical pedagogy within the managerial climate that presently shapes teacher education. Current discourses of professionalism are incommensurate with an understanding of the way that literacy practices are grounded in the social worlds in which both school and university students operate. Weekly spelling tests are effective to assess spelling patterns, instead of useing a pre-determined collection of random words. This project investigated the problem of how to enable a student-centered environment in reading instruction through effectively incorporating meaningful web-based technology into the community college reading curriculum. Three multimedia strategies were tested to promote individual and collaborative meaning making: ePortfolios, eJournals, and the Class Know-It-All. The success of these strategies was measured against that of a previous course with identical materials and resources with the exception of multimedia integration.
