The Process To Perform, Nicole Suzanne Farley Jan 2006

The Process To Perform, Nicole Suzanne Farley

Honors Program Theses

A musical performance is much more than technical execution of notes on a page. A performance is a way to communicate the deepest part of the human soul across culture, language, or racial barriers. Music can bring one to tears or turn their mood sour in a matter of minutes. It is a powerful medium of emotional communication, communicating far beyond the confines provided by the written word. However, wonderful music-making does not just happen. Like any academic or artistic discipline, it takes intense study, time, thought, and practice to become a work of art. In preparing my senior recital, …

Senior Voice Recital, Sarah Jo Duvel

Honors Program Theses

The process of preparing and presenting this thesis recital has been a very educational and eyeopening. There were low points, such as stress over pronunciation and music memorization, frustration over rehearsal coordination, and fatigue from asking so much of myself so often. However, there were also many high points: advancement in my vocal lessons, growth in my vocal technique, further mastery of foreign languages, opportunities to make music with my colleagues, and improved proficiencies in the business aspects of singing (publicity, networking, etc.). Though this was not my first vocal recital, it was certainly the most rewarding; the knowledge and …
