The ultimate goal of this thesis is to inspire an interest in rhythmic analysis and an understanding of its tools and applications, particularly to the repertoire of the wind band. The content is divided into two sections. Part I deals with a general overview of the subject matter. It includes a review of literature on the subject of rhythm, an outlining of terms and systems that attempt to reconcile the broad approaches taken in the literature, and a general look at the tools and applications of rhythmic analysis.
