Graduate Thesis Collection

Four composers have been chosen for this study. They were the leaders of four successive generations of composers influential in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Their masses were written between the years 1420 A.D. and 1560 A.D. Many significant changes took place during this period of one hundred forty years. Older compositional techniques such as the use of formes fixes and isorhythm all but disappeared. Cantus firmus technique was transformed and extended to unify the mass cycle. Aesthetic considerations became more important to the composer than liturgical canons, and composers began to regard themselves as artistic creators not mere …

This project is a play that involves the principles about of music, play , and production. The play is based on King Arthur and the knights. The whole experience of my senior project, from the first rough draft of the plot, to the final focusing of the each light, was the most significant learning experience of my college career. Nothing in the classroom can replace actually doing something. These are two saka, songs composed for a secret lover (hina) in traditional Sikaiana society. I know that one was collected from Fane Telena, the other I found in my notes.

These are transcriptions of several tani or funeral dirges. Tani are composed after a person dies. I do not have a record of who gave me the transcriptions, most likely John Kilatu and/or Reuben Tenai. I do not have recordings for these songs.

Music educator have constantly searched for more effective ways to teach their subject. In the past thirty years, several philosophies and methods of music education have had considerable influence on the music curricula in American schools. An examination of one one of these methods, the Kodaly method, will be the focus of this paper. Zoltan Kodaly, a Hungarian composer and educator, believed that the voice was nature's first instrument and that only though its correct utilization could a child develop correctly in all other aspects of music. A symphonic piece for string orchestra. the first and second movements were composed in 1977 and the third movement and refashioning of the piece was completed in 1981. The accompanying audio recording is performed by the Russian String Orchestra in 2021, conducted by Misha Rachlevsky, Score is 27 pages and recording is 13:20 minutes.
