Over the last semester and summer I have been developing a modern guitar method book. I have been consulting with Larry Green (my faculty mentor) as well as reading many different guitar method books. I came to find that the reason why many of the method books were failing was due to a lack of attractive content and a early focus on chords rather than single notes. I developed my method based upon single notes then progessively moving into small chords (2 or 3 notes only) and gradually move into full chords (4,5 and 6 notes).

Finding aid only for Folklife Archives Project 770. Recorded music by gospel groups, chiefly from south central Kentucky, collected William Lynwood Montell. Also includes some recordings of singing conventions and interviews with selected artists. A small amount of correspondence and printed material is included. Many of these artists are featured in Montell's book "Singing the Glory Down: Amateur Gospel Music in South Central Kentucky, 1900-1990" published in 1991.

The growing popularity of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) on nearly every continent has given rise to the transition of EDM music from underground raves to large scale, multiple-day music festivals. Attendance at EDM events, whether at concerts or festivals, is primarily dominated by today's youth generation. The number of youth attending these events continues to grow as elements of EDM are being mixed into other mainstream music genres. "Retrograde Soul": A Song Cycle, Victoria E. Bouton

Senior Honors Theses

The song cycle is a classical music genre originating from the German Lieder tradition with roots in the early romantic period. Its versatility as a compositional form has ensured its popularity from its 19th century origins on, and accounts for the diversity of works within the genre. This thesis is a creative project involving the composition of a song cycle for female voice, accompanied by a string quartet and containing an original poetic text.
