The purpose of this study is to investigate the history and development of the curriculum of the Conservatory of Music of the University of the Pacific from 1924 to 1954, and to indicate change as they occurred. The beginning point of this study was chosen because it coincides with the move of the institution from San Jose, California, to its present location in Stockton, California.

Many contemporary documented sources have substantiated the claims of earlier scholars that singing in the eighteenth century reached such a high point of skill and virtuosity that it has never since been equaled. If the above is true, it would seem that an investigation of the early singing schools would be of value to contemporary teachers and students of singing, in as much as various vocal theories seem to advocate differences of opinion.

In Tacoma Public School District 10, there is one music supervisor for fifty-two schools serving 150,000 people. This supervisor must, of necessity, rely in part on the administrative ability of the individual director under his supervision. It was the purpose of this paper (1) to discover a working philosophy of music education for everyday use by the instrumental music director; and (2) to find from authoritative sources the factors essential for successful administration of the Junior High School instrumental department.

The writer's presentation of the recital was concerned with improving and demonstrating playing technique on the french horn also introducing some original ensemble compositions to both performers and listeners which might be used by music students. It is the belief of the writer that many qualities of good musicianship can be developed more rapidly through solo and small ensemble performance than through larger organizations because literature can be selected which is more suitable for the capabilities and developmental needs of the individual performer. Piano playing is no longer a luxury for the talented few, but rather a musical activity in which many participate. Today's piano teacher needs a method that achieves quick mastery because many attractive activities compete with piano practice for children's time.

This paper will attempt to present a method of dealing with the unsure singer which can be used by classroom teachers or the music specialist. The various activities outlined have proven somewhat successful in correcting this problem with the singing voilces of primary children. A paper or thesis could be written on the progress of individual children.
