Integrating A Kodaly Music Curriculum Into A Developmental Early Childhood Program, Phyllis Entin

Nye (1975) states that the music teacher in a developmental early childhood program needs to have a "fundamental understanding of music in order to plan and organize music experiences based on reliable theories of how children think and learn" (p.41). The Kodaly approach is based on theories of child development and learning. Its specific sequential organization and developmental presentation of material separates it from other early 110 childhood music programs. The teacher trained in the Kodaly approach has a sound understanding of the musical elements presented in the song material. Both musical analysis and teaching techniques enable the teacher to …

The Use Of Musical Wind Instruments As An Expiratory Therapy With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients, Ellen R. Griggs Drane

The use of musical wind instruments as an expiratory therapy with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients was compared to the traditional inspiratory treatment of the Inspiratory Muscle Trainer (IMT) during a twelve week pre - posttest study. Sixteen subjects, attending an out patient respiratory rehabilitation program, were randomly assigned to either the experimental group, receiving musical wind instruments, or the control group, receiving the IMT.
Measures for the study were: Forced Expiratory Volume in one second (FEV1) and Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) as measured by the Pulmonary Function Test; physical endurance measured by the Twelve Minute Walk Endurance Test; …

This addendum to the Revella E. Hughes papers consists of correspondence, professional papers, photographs, holograph music manuscripts, notebooks, plaques, certificates, photographs, and audio cassette tapes. Also included are programs and announcements of concerts, recitals, and other musical events in which Miss Hughes participated. The newspaper clippings and programs encompass the range of Miss Hughes' performing career, from 1909, at Hartshorn and Memorial College in Richmond, Virginia, until her final appearances in West Virginia in 1985 and 1986.
Printed and manuscript musical arrangements comprise the bulk of the collection. Correspondence, primarily from 1970 until 1986, includes letters from the Marble Collegiate …

The Effects Of Music And Metronomic Beat On Heart Rate, Ratings Of Perceived Exertion, And Physical Endurance Prior To A Heart Rate Cut-Off, Cheryl Ann Louie

This study examined the effects of music and metronomic beat on heart rate (HR). ratings of perceived exertion (RPE). and physical endurance in healthy females ages 18 to 30. Volunteers were screened via a health questionnaire and the Astrand Work Test on a Monark bicycle ergometer. yielding a predicted aerobic working capacity (V02) of 28 mililiters or more. The 30 subjects were then randomly assigned to one of two experimental conditions (music or metronome group) for a cycling test at 75% capacity. HR and Borg RPE were measured repeatedly, with a posttest measure of physical endurance (kilometers travelled). No significant …

The Effects Of Performance Anxiety Management Training On Musicians’ Self-Efficacy, State Anxiety And Musical Performance Quality, Nancy Barnes Mansberger

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Performance Anxiety Management Training (PAMT) on levels of perceived self-efficacy, state anxiety, and performance quality of undergraduate musicians performing under stressful conditions. Nineteen undergraduate music majors were selected for this study. Ten received PAMT, and nine received no treatment. Subjects were tested immediately prior to a stressful evaluative performance jury on self-assessed measures of self-efficacy and state anxiety. Adjudicating music faculty determined subjects' level of performance quality. Analysis of variance revealed that subjects in the PAMT group had significantly higher scores on measures of self-efficacy, and significantly lower scores …

This collection is predominantly composed of Kumlien’s notes for assorted music courses he taught while at Marshall. I want to talk about an important issue in legal education today: the role of clinical education in the law school curriculum. I hope to shed some light on that issue by looking at another professional school model-not the medical school model, which is the usual approach, but the music school model. This guestbook was kept at the Spokane Conservatory from 1943 to 1987. It contains signatures and notes from guests and performers of the conservatory, including notable signer Igor Stravinsky. The guestbook was curated by Rosaleen Moldenhauer, Hans Moldenhauer's late wife, from 1943 until her death in January of 1982. Hans Moldenhauer's next wife, Mary Moldenhauer, curated the guestbook from 1982 until 1987. In 1987 the guestbook was donated to Whitworth College as part of the Moldenhauer Archives.

The Orff Approach To Music Education: Objectives And Materials For Grades One Through Six, Barbara P. Spieler

This study investigates the relationship between skill objectives in the Orff-Schulwerk approach to elementary music education and Jean Piaget’s theory of cognitive development. The research begins with a detailed analysis of skill objectives as outlined in Music for Children, the foundational curriculum series for Orff-Schulwerk. These objectives are systematically ordered and examined for their developmental structure. The analysis reveals a clear sequence, beginning with fundamental abilities such as speech and rhythmic movement, progressing toward more advanced competencies including instrumental performance, melodic improvisation, and ensemble coordination.
The second stage of the study maps these Orff-Schulwerk objectives onto Piaget’s stages of …
