The RISD Rag was a student publication released in the spring of 1972, first on a monthly basis and later on a bi-weekly basis. The issue of January 1972 included an article about the local food co-ops, and the lack of diversity in the RISD faculty and at the RISD Museum. Support was wanted for farm workers and there was an appeal for a sick child. Voter registration information was listed for each state and parking ticket information for Providence was provided. Increased enrollment necessitates a revision of some aspects of the department in order to more properly serve student needs and meet the standards of other class "C" school music departments in Washington state.

A Study Of Scheduling, Staffing And Housing Procedures For A Comprehensive Elementary Instrumental Music Program In The Highline Public Schools, Gerald Clifton Bayne

This paper presents a survey of the scheduling, staffing and housing procedures for elementary instrumental music in selected large suburban school districts surrounding the City of Seattle, Washington. Upon comparison with other available studies and a similar survey of the Highline Public Schools, basic recommendations were made for the implementation of three alternate plans for a comprehensive elementary instrumental music program in the Highline Public Schools. The preferred recommended plan involves simultaneously team teaching with instrumental and vocal music specialists.

Poems, photos of musicans at the RISD farm, and a calendar of events for RISD students were also included.

Newspaper was a community-created newspaper meant to take the place of the RISD Extra, a newspaper that itself was published sometime in the late '60s or early '70s, no issues of which exist today. A single issue of the Free RISD! Newspaper is held by the archives; it covers the end of Extra, issues of separation between the RISD museum and its student body, issues of feminism, letters to the editor, a calendar of events, and some advertisements. There was information about the members of the board of trustees. There was a plea to offer 30 full scholarships to needy students from Rhode Island.

A common philosophy of administrators and music educators should be prerequisite for a successful music program. This philosophy should permit enough flexibility to allow for individual differences and yet be rigid enough to encompass general education needs and goals. It can only be shared through communication. The place of music within the curriculum will be understood through this communication between the music educator and the chief administrator. It shall be the purpose of this study to encourage the shared philosophy and communication relationship between school music educators and their administrators.
