The present work is an approach to Manita en el suelo, the only opera bufa that Alejo Carpentier created in collaboration with the Cuban musician Alejandro García Caturla. The genuine friendship that united Carpentier and Caturla was the result of their identification not only in their love for music, but also an accentuated interest in all things primitive, together with a deep sense of social justice.
