Muhlenberg County Heritage

“The Muhlenberg County [Kentucky] Heritage” was published four times a year by the Muhlenberg County Genealogical Society in Greenville, Kentucky, from 1978 to 2001. The cover title sometimes appears as “The Heritage.” The publication’s purpose was to support the society and to publish information about the genealogy, culture, and history of Muhlenberg County. A separate annual index was printed each year for volumes 1-14. Afterwards, each issue was indexed separately. Generally, the index is to surnames only.

This one-page typed document, circa 1980, is a petition to the South Dakota State Supreme Court for Dick Marshall to receive a new trial. Dick Marshall, an Oglala Lakotah, was imprisoned on a charge of first-degree murder, but later a witness retracted her original testimony, stating she was pressured to accuse Marshall by the FBI. This petition proclaims the innocence of Marshall and demands a retrial.

Juvenile literature is an effective and appealing tool to supplement classroom instruction. More specifically, historical fiction can provide supplemental readings to enhance and enrich an American Studies Course.

The purpose of this study was to determine if an annotated bibliography of historical fiction relating to the Civil War era could be developed. The novels to be included were to be of an interest level including grade eight and a reading level range of grades four through eleven. Major social/cultural, political/legal, and economic issues of the Civil War era were attributed to each title in the bibliography.

Tractors are tested at the University of Nebraska according to the Agricultural Tractor Test Code approved by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers or official Nebraska test procedure.
