The Vanguard

LHRAA's Board of Directors has scheduled its 1969 Institute on Human Relations for Chicago for the week-end of June 27 to 29.

The decision calls for moving the site of the Institute from Valparaiso University to the Lutheran School of Theology. The meetings will be on Chicago's South Side in a setting where the issues of racial and urban crisis are close at hand.

The entire format - and goals - of this year's Institute will differ greatly from previous years.

On September 22, 1949, Shirley Cupp, Irma Beisel, Frances Stuckey and Mr. Hilary Bufton Jr. met in a coffee shop in downtown Kansas City to incorporate the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Jean Fulkerson helped start The Kentucky Colonels Chapter on 3 June 1964 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Twenty-six women met at Western Hills Restaurant and elected Linda Sidebottom as the first president. Besides providing professional development opportunities for local businesswomen, the Chapter gave scholarships to women furthering their education, and held social and recognition events throughout the year. The purpose of this study is to present some of the history of the Baptist Church in Clinton County, Kentucky. A detailed study of the early church in the county also presents a picture of the county's social history as well because of the very close association between the individual and his church.

The leaders of the Black movement in the United States generally seem to be skilled rhetoricians. These leaders seem to emulate the same oharaoteristics in the use of rhetoric as did the statesmen who engineered the American Revolution. One notable exception seems to be a young Black named Dick Gregory. He seems to have found a means of persuasion that is far removed from his colleagues. His weapon is wit, and combined with dedication and honesty it helps make his rhetoric one of the most persuasive and unusual of the Black spokesmen.

Fred Hampton, Illinois chairman of the Black Panther Party, is dead. So is Panther Mark Clark.

State's Attorney Edwin Hanrahan in a TV interview commended the officers who "bravely and with restraint" participated in the pre-dawn raid on Thursday December 4, when the shoot-out occurred.

Many in Chicago's black community and many whites are convinced that Hanrahan's men murdered Hampton as he slept.
